SNF | Emery's Villa stun Blues at the Bridge | Hasselbaink: ‘Chelsea need to be calmer in front of goal’ | Mudryk divides opinion

Dave Jones presents 'Saturday Night Football' alongside Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Lee Hendrie, and they watched Aston Villa beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to move above the hosts and into the top half of the Premier League. Lee described Chelsea’s defending as ‘schoolboy’ whilst Jimmy said their main problem is putting the ball in the back of the net and they need to be calmer in front of goal. The duo also highlighted Ollie Watkins’ performance which was capped by another away goal and the forward produced a standout performance. Mykhaylo Mudryk again failed to impress for Chelsea and missed some key chances, but Hasselbaink defended the forward saying that he needs more time to settle. However, Hendrie feels the Ukrainian should have converted the opportunities he failed to capitalise on. They also discuss Graham Potter’s future, and feel if the negative results continue, the pressure will build. Hendrie thinks the Champions League tie against Real Madrid will be crucial to determine Potter's outcome. Hasselbaink however believes Chelsea’s board should look at Arsenal’s decision to back Mikel Arteta and trust the process as the Gunners are a great example of adopting that approach. There is also reaction from both goal scorers, Ollie Watkins and John McGinn as well as Graham Potter, who felt Chelsea were second best in both boxes despite having more attempts. Unai Emery also gives his views on the result and said that securing European football for next season will be difficult, but they will try to achieve it. Man Utd win the League Cup, Celtic beat Rangers to silverware, Chelsea & Liverpool win nothing

Manchester United ended their five year trophy drought by beating Newcastle United in the League Cup final. We discuss if this is the symbolic start of something good for Erik Ten Hag and his team, and if the League Cup is a minor or major trophy… In Scotland, Celtic win another League Cup and we ponder if the dominance of Ange Postecoglou’s side will keep on going. Forever. Tottenham find themselves in the top four after beating a defensively and offensively lacklustre Chelsea 2-0. At this point, the redemption arc for Graham Potter at Chelsea is going to be quite epic if it does come… We talk for a bit about quite how drastic the collapse in standards at Liverpool has been, and Jon gets very excited about Javi Gracia’s first game, and victory; as Leeds United manager. Plus, we briefly look at how Paris St Germain will probably win Ligue Un again but probably not the Champions League. And, even more briefly, we cast our eyes over the last 16 draw for the Europa League, Europe’s second most major, or minor; cup competition. Arsenal’s late comeback, Man City’s dropped points and Barcelona’s La Liga lead

Michael Bailey, JJ Bull and Jon Mackenzie are here to talk about some football. Arsenal ended their winless streak by beating Aston Villa very, very late on. But will every game be so hard for The Gunners for the rest of this season? Manchester City yet again dominate a side and fail to win. But how to explain it? Damned if we know. Newcastle United had possibly the worst start to a game for any side this season in their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, and it’s left them in the goalkeeping lurch for the League Cup final. And will Liverpool sneak past the Magpies into top four contention? One team who almost certainly won’t be challenging for the Champions League places this season is Chelsea. After losing to bottom side Southampton, will the Chelsea board really, actually stick with Graham Potter? Plus, we look at La Liga and how Barcelona have levered themselves into first place with an impressive, and surely unsustainable; defensive record. Man Utd finding their feet, Man City are angry and Chelsea are in between

JJ Bull, Jon Mackenzie and Seb Stafford-Bloor are here to talk about some football. Manchester United are looking like they’re starting to dance to Erik Ten Hag’s tune. But will that tune lead towards a title race? Manchester City might have had a fire lit under them which is both terrifying and quite annoying to be honest. Chelsea are a work in progress but will they actually allow Graham Potter to progress that work? And we discuss the VAR errors over the weekend and really try to make it not be boring. Plus, we look at a Bundesliga that sees Union Berlin back to their pre-World Cup best in the battle with Bayern. JJ also shoehorns in talking about UFOs, or UAPs I should say, on multiple occasions. We’re Back Baby!

Joe Devine, JJ Bull and Jon Mackenzie are here to talk about some football. For the first show of 2023 the boys start, unexpectedly, with Southampton. The Athletic’s Southampton reporter Jacob Tanswell joins us to give all of the insight. Will Southampton sink without a trace on the South Coast? Is the new owner's long term plan working? Manchester United have a 100% winning record since the post World Cup, and at the time of recording before anyone goes near the comments in like five weeks time. Has Erik Ten Hag started to get the fear back into the Red Devils? And would a big man up top make them even better? Plus, Chelsea are facing an uncomfortable transition from their short term habits to longer term planning. But will they hold their nerve and keep Graham Potter? Finally, Haaland is great, but are Manchester City better without him? This is discussed and quickly dismissed, but it’s a good ol’ chat. The Tifo Football Podcast is presented by Joe Devine and produced by Steve Hankey. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Chelsea v Bournemouth | CotC with @Phantomantle & @AFCBNG | Planet FPL 2022/23

On the return of Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Chelsea fan Gary Mantle and Bournemouth fan Neil Grover to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of the return of Premier League Football. It's 5 league games without a win for Chelsea, is Graham Potter already under pressure from Blues fans? Can they get themselves back in contention for the top 4? And with a trip to Nottingham Forest and a Double gameweek following the visit of Bournemouth who are the best Chelsea assets for FPL managers? Will it simply come down to who's fit for selection? While for Bournemouth a club takeover is still 'imminent' and Gary O'Neil has been appointed manager permanently, but is it underwhelming for Cherries fan following links with Marcelo Bielsa? Bournemouth too have some appealing enablers for FPL managers but do Fulham's fixtures mean they'll be overlooked? Potter’s Chelsea crack against Brighton, Leeds Marsch on against Liverpool

Joe Devine, JJ Bull, Seb Stafford-Bloor and Jon Mackenzie are here to talk about some spooky football. Roberto De Zerbi gets his first win as Brighton manager against new Chelsea boss and old Brighton gaffer Graham Potter. Leeds have better underlying numbers than their overlying results currently show. Apart from their most recent overlying result, which was a win over Liverpool. We discuss Unai Emery’s appointment at Aston Villa. Is he a top, top manager, or just a top manager or just a… manager? English TV provision has really gotten on Joe’s nerves in a way that’s completely reasonable. Juventus are out of the Champions League and in some trouble, relative to their usually lofty station… Plus Lionel Messi is being linked with Inter Miami. He’s playing out of his skin for PSG right now so is a move to MLS too soon? The Tifo football podcast is presented by Joe Devine and produced by Steve Hankey. Hosted on Acast.
