We've been away a long time (well three weeks) but we're finally back with another jam-packed episode of the AFTN Soccer Show for your listening pleasure as we talk Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, and the Canadian Premier League, with our usual splattering of fine tunes thrown in for your aural pleasure. Our last show came after the Whitecaps capitulation down in LA. There's been four games since then and we've seen the good, the bad, the ugly, and the very ugly side of the 'Caps in that time as the team went from having their heads above the playoff line for the first time this season, to rapidly sinking below it and in danger of disappearing without a trace. With every point a prisoner, the Whitecaps have left the cell door wide open and some of their performances have been criminal. We look back over the past few weeks, take a look around the current lie of the land in MLS, and what it all means for the 'Caps. Plus we have to talk about the C word - Cava. Here's the rundown for the main segments from the episode:01.30: Back from Bonnie Scotland16.15: The last few weeks in Whitecapsland29.24: Earthquakes leave 'Caps playoff hopes in ruins59.10: MLS round-up and the lie of the land76.31 The C Word - Cava87.55: CPL chat96.45: Wavelength - Admiral Fallow - Subbuteo

Welcome to Episode 87 of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents, except this episode sees the Fab Four reunited together in Scotland for the first time since the podcast began.Week four of the new Scottish League 2 season is done and dusted and East Fife continued their winning ways with a dramatic stoppage time win at home to Forfar Athletic to make it back to back victories and take the black and gold up to second place in the league table.Michael, Lee, Doug, and Gordon delve into the match, the main talking points coming out of it, and what we can learn about the team a month into the new season. What will continue the Fife's good start to the campaign? An experienced midfield veteran and a big brassy centre back would fit the bill, but the young guns are more than holding their own just now as Stevie Crawford looks to build on the confidence that comes from making winning a habit. We chat about all of that and take a look at the comings and going down Bayview way this past week, including partaking in the club's new hospitality package, as well as a look around some of the other action that caught our eye this weekend in the lower leagues of Scottish football.

The domestic season comes to a close and rounding up all the drama, it’s Matt Davies-Adams, Michael Cox, Sasha Goryunov and Daniel Storey. Sasha and Daniel relay their own personal experiences of an uncomfortable night in Paris. On the pitch, we praise Ancelotti, Courtois and reflect on where Liverpool go from here, particularly as the frontline may need bolstering with Sadio Mane seemingly on the way out. Forest are promoted to the Premier League after 23 years away as Huddersfield feel aggrieved with decisions not going their way. Welcome to Episode 63 of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast.Lee, Doug, and Gordon are back after a week off and there's been an interesting couple of matches for East Fife since the last show, with a battling draw at Queens Park and a narrow 1-0 loss at home to league leaders Airdrie. On paper, two good performances, but how much hope can we take from them? Who stood out? Have the club turned a corner? Where are the concerns still lying? Do the fanbase have faith restored in Darren Young at the helm?Ultimately the team is still bottom of the table and in a relegation battle, making next week's match with Clyde absolutely massive. Can the black and gold survive? We chat about all of that and a lot more, including our forthcoming live Q&A with the legend that is Steve Archibald. And there's still time to chat about Scotland reaching the World Cup qualifying playoffs. Are we heading to Qatar?

In the era of hyper professionalism, it's refreshing to see Radja Nainggolan determined to never play for Belgium again because he'd rather have a smoke. Ryan Fraser should've used that justification for dropping out of Scary Steve's Scotland squad. Marcus, Luke and Vish look ahead to some crucial qualifiers as Scotland inspire some confidence, Wales plant some seeds and Harry Kane looks to shake off some poor form. Hosts Dan Bardell and George Elek are joined by bet365's Steve Freeth to discuss Steven Gerrard's appointment as Aston Villa boss - Is it really a bad thing if he views Villa as a stepping stone to Liverpool? Plus, why Norwich choosing Frank Lampard to replace Daniel Farke would be a surprise... The trio also attempt to pick Gareth Southgate's England squad for the World Cup in Qatar next year and look ahead to an important week for both Scotland and Wales' qualification hopes. England's swashbucklers cut through precisely sod all last night in an underwhelming draw with Hungary. Maybe we need... *more* attackers? Kate, Andy and Jim pick through that throwback performance and celebrate a vital derby win for Scotland in the Faroe Islands. We also wonder how Arsène Wenger can tarnish his legacy even further with more biennial World Cup nonsense and get to some of your dilemmas! Jimbo is joined by Rory Smith, Duncan Alexander and Adrian Clarke on the pod where, in spite of the international break, there’s plenty to discuss. Mike Ashley’s reign at Newcastle looks to be coming to an end. But the Saudi Arabian-backed takeover raises many issues. Italy’s world record breaking unbeaten run is over as Spain beat them 2-1 in the Nations League semi-finals, inspired by 17-year-old Gavi as the future looks bright for the Spanish. And for Barca? Che Adams and Lyndon Dykes continued their stint as Scotland's devastating double act, as their pestering perseverance earned Scotland a vital 1-0 win over Austria. Kate, Andy and Luke canter through all of last night's highlights, with Andy's AFC Wimbledon on the march and Andy's Turkey on the end of another pasting. We also chat about FIFA's depressing calls for bi-annual World Cups and wonder whether we'll see further opposition to Qatar 2022 in the coming months. The cream of Europe's striking talent was on show last night as Cristiano Ronaldo broke the men's international scoring record, Erling Haaland smashed in another and Aleksandar Mitrović was... nowhere to be seen. Marcus, Jim and Pete bounce through last night's results, with Scotland sloppy at the back and the Netherlands confirming they're not the best team around. We also hear of some apparent transfer chicanery and look ahead to England's return! Phil was an assistant referee on both Euro 2000 and 2004 so has some great insights in to the behind the scenes of a Euros tournament. This week we discuss multiple penalty and non-penalty calls from France vs Portugal, Denmark vs Russia, England vs Scotland, and Croatia vs Czech Republic. We get Phil’s thoughts on Ampadu’s challenge in Wales vs Italy and should second yellow cards have a higher bar than first yellow cards.Learn more about REFSIX: https://refsix.com Follow REFSIX: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/refsix/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/refsix/ Twitter: https://www.Twitter.com/refsix REFSIX REFSIX - The App for Football/Soccer Referees REFSIX is the app for football/soccer referees which replaces their notebook and tracks their performance. Welcome to Episode 49 of Glory Days of Gold. The fourth, and what is now sadly our final, of our Euro 2020 specials. The dream is over. Scotland returned to a major tournament for the first time in 23 years and it was like we had never left, as they failed to make it out of the group stages again and all the hopes were left lying in tatters following a 3-1 loss to a much better Croatia side, all made even worse by not doing it on home soil at Hampden. So while there's pride at the performance against England, and some fighting spirit shown in all three games, ultimately we struggled from not having a deadly finisher that could take the chances that were being created. Was that the main difference between qualifying or not or was it Scotland's shape, tactics, and team selections that let them down? How big a loss was Billy Gilmour? And were we just all swept up in the emotional rollercoaster of just being there and simply outplayed?Kenny Deuchar joins Lee, Doug, and Gordon to look at all of that and more, and ponder what's next for the Scotland national team and who should be the players to try and get us to Qatar next year?

As Kalvin and England progress to the Round of 16, Liam Cooper's Scotland are making the short journey home. Meanwhile, it's still No TyRo, No Party for Wales and there's little Llorente and no Koch. But all that pales into insignificance with a trip to Guiseley on the horizon. With levisolicitors.co.uk/thesquareball Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Matt Davies Adams, Tom Williams, and Daniel Storey are here as England top Group D and as Scotland bid farewell to their first tournament in 23 years. So Scotland are out but what does it mean? We ask The Athletic's Jordan Campbell who's live at Hampden for his reflections on a heartbreaking night for the Tartan Army. More positive scenes over at Wembley though, well for 12 minutes anyway, as Sterling netted again and England top the group and look at facing, erm, France/Germany/Portugal/Hungary! Speaking of which tomorrow is today and today is the last day of the group stages, and there are still two groups to sort out. Namely Group E and F where it's looking concerning for Spain and rather brighter for Germany. All that plus we hit a few bum notes. England enjoy a divisively comfortable victory over Czech Republic on their way to winning Group D. Next stop, runners up from the Group of Death (otherwise known as Group F). Scotland, on the other hand, have exited at the group stage, and a dismayed JJ Bull tells all. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Alice Piper is joined by Rob Dorsett and Pete Smith to discuss England's 1-0 win over Czech Republic at Wembley to finish top of Group D at Euro 2020. Jack Grealish finally gets a start for England - is he now here to stay? Why IS Gareth Southgate so cautious with the Three Lions? Plus: praise for Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling. The panel also cover all England positions and talking points going into the last 16, and discuss how Southgate will approach the knockout stages. And after Scotland's 3-1 defeat by Croatia at Hampden Park, Sky Sports News' Charles Paterson joins us to look back their campaign, and whether the foundations are in place for more success in the future. Suj and James discuss the action from Monday at The Euros as Denmark thrilled with a stunning display, The Dutch made it 3 wins from 3 and wins for Austria and Belgium have left Finland and Ukraine's hopes of qualification hanging by a thread. Could a rejuvenated Denmark be a danger to opponents in the knockout stages? There's early thinking towards Euro Fantasy plans for the last 16 and a preview of tonight's game for England against the Czech Republic and both Croatia and Scotland will know victory will guarantee progression to the last 16... And if it sounds like Suj was recording in a car park that's because he was! ____________________________________________ Want to become a member of our FPL community? Matt Davies Adams, Rory Smith, and Sasha Goryunov are here as Denmark make their mark on this tournament and squeeze into the next stage whilst Austria find their fast flowing football. Copenhagen was the place to be on Monday night as Denmark scored four magnificent goals to set up their place in the round of 16. Whilst Finland gave Belgium a run for their money before Lukaku turned the fireworks on. Plus we had one of the most memorable moments of the tournament so far - and VAR was involved in a positive way! In Group C it's Ukraine who are left wondering if they're in or out, and we waved goodbye to tournament cult hero Goran Pandev with an emotional guard of honour. Up next it's England v Czech Republic and Croatia v Scotland where it's "you finish second" "no, you finish second" at Wembley and win at all costs in Hampden. And where Covid 19 is wreaking havoc with protocols as Billy Gilmour is out and it's a bit of a confusion over Mount and Chilwell for England. All that plus there's a rather special 'On This Day' for Matt - and we find out that his dog has a middle name.... RUNNING ORDER PART 1: Drama or no drama?
