Did All of That Really Happen? | Stadio Podcast

Musa and Ryan are back to try to make sense of a wildly chaotic weekend of soccer. They begin in the Premier League, where Leicester beat Manchester City 5-2 at the Etihad, thanks to a Jamie Vardy hat trick (4:40), where Sheffield United and Wolves are struggling at the start of the season following defeats to Leeds and West Ham (16:11), and where Brighton and Spurs were the victims of last-minute VAR calls (17:58) and Chelsea came from 3-0 down to salvage a draw at West Brom (21:25). The guys give a roundup of the Women’s FA Cup results and then move on to the Bundesliga, where the chaos continued as none of last season’s top five won, with Dortmund losing at Augsburg (25:38) and Bayern losing at Hoffenheim (30:25). Also, Lionel Messi was back in a Barcelona shirt, scoring in a stress-free 4-0 win at home to Villarreal (38:58), Luis Suarez scored two of Atleti's six in his debut (42:58), and the guys take a quick look at Serie A. Jamie Vardy’s reign of terror, more bizarre handballs, and a doddering Thiago Silva

After another Premier League weekend passes by with absolutely no moments of controversy, Marcus, Jim and Vish are here to revel in the ridiculous. Jamie Vardy continued to sap power from his opponents as he scored a hat-trick, while a classy Steve Bruce couldn’t understand how his side won that late penalty. There’s also time for more Pep Guardiola happiness, inevitable handball controversy and a bizarre bus mishap for Oxford United. Join us! Southampton survive Man City’s siege, Arsenal show maturity, and Jamie Vardy joins the 100 Club

There was no need for Southampton vs Man City to be a crazy, backs-to-the-wall thriller – but what a game it was! After an understandably sluggish start football seems to have found its groove. Marcus, Andy and Jim also look back over Arsenal’s impressive win over Wolves, Man United’s vintage demolition of Bournemouth and, of course, consider which of Jurgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola you’d prefer to fight. We also check in with some record-breakers as Jamie Vardy, Sergio Ramos, and Gigi Buffon all continue to defy the concept of ageing! All in on Leicester City with the @NewYorkFoxes

We did it! We booked a Leicester City guest. But we never could have guessed at how cool this guest would be. He's been supporting the club since 1998, so he has seen a lot of shit. That's through several relegations, a quick stop in League One, a couple of years duking it out in the Championship, the return to the Prem, the title, Champions League, mainstays, and now the team that is giving Liverpool the most cause to look over their shoulder. Jason and his twin brother started New York Foxes, which is a supporters group based at Footfall Factory in New York city. They are responsible for building support for the club in the USA and have become a sounding board for others around the US that are interested in building groups in other cities. So much cool Leicester information in this episode. Christian Fuchs shout-outs, Jamie Vardy worship, players that have come and gone, take on the current season, preview of some trips to Leicester, and more.

The Ramble: United come out on top in Manchester, Big Dunc starts strongly and Vardy's gonna Vard

Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer has brought Man United back! Again. The Red Devils all but handed the title to Liverpool with victory over Man City, unless Jamie Vardy has something to say about that, which he very well might, what with him being Jamie Vardy and all that. Elsewhere, Big Duncan Ferguson got off to a great start as Big Everton beat Chelsea, while the Steve Bruce masterclass continues at Newcastle with Jonjo Shelvey is playing like the player Marcus always knew he was. If that’s all a bit too footbally for you we of course cover more than that, such as chess, errant stags and some very old references. The Preview Show: Liverpool put Marco Silva under pressure, Leicester keep up the pace, and Chelsea get back to winning ways

The Amazon era has begun! Liverpool left five goals with neighbours Everton as the streaming behemoth gave us a glimpse into the future. In the same evening, Jose Mourinho made an unhappy return to Old Trafford, Jamie Vardy continued to close in on his own scoring record and Watford kept being rubbish. We still had time to ruminate on a potential summer transfer coup for Leicester City, Kevin Keegan’s fines and Chris Kamara’s beautiful, beautiful body. We recorded this episode on Thursday 5th, before Marco Silva was fired (another Ramble Curse). We'll cover that story in full on Monday! We’ve also been nominated for another award! 26 - Silva Sacked, Arsenal Shocked by Brighton & Rashford Spoils Mourinho's Return to Old Trafford

Robbie Mustoe and Robbie Earle on Everton's decision to sack Marco Silva after their 5-2 defeat to Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby (0:50), Arsenal's shocking defeat at home to Brighton (14:00) and Tottenham's 2-1 loss to Manchester United in the Jose Mourinho's return to Old Trafford thanks to a brace from Marcus Rashford (22:25). Plus, thoughts on Gabriel Jesus' long-term role at Manchester City (29:00), Jamie Vardy and Leicester City can't stop winning (35:10), back to winning ways for Chelsea (39:00) and the Underappreciated Performances of the week (43:40).

The Ramble: Leicester leave it late, business as usual for Arsenal, and Steve Bruce blunts Man City

On reflection this was always going to be a terrible time for Pep Guardiola to enter into the gladiatorial (Sports Direct) arena that is the Brucey Bowl, but to his credit Man City did at least emerge with a point - thanks to Jonjo Shelvey. Leicester left it late to take advantage, but take advantage they did. Is Jamie Vardy planning another party? Let’s assume yes. Elsewhere Arsenal’s first performance under Freddie Ljungberg was less than handsome - an insult to the man’s bone structure - sheep dogs make a surprising appearance, Marcus makes a salty Google search suggestion and at one point we just start listing beasts. The Preview Show: Frank Lampard’s Chelsea Jr host West Ham, Man City visit the toon, and Jamie Vardy continues to defy all logic

It’s Friday! Football tomorrow! Yes! We look ahead to some of it, as is tradition, casting glances towards Chelsea taking on West Ham, Everton probably getting banged by Jamie “I hate the gym” Vardy and Leicester City, while Pep Guardiola takes his Man City team up to the Brucey Bowl to try and win a battle of managerial wits at Newcastle. David Moyes makes an appearance - it’s that time of year after all - while Keisuke Honda makes an interesting career decision and Watford decide to keep their inexplicable elk badge after all.
