James is joined by Wolves fan Bradley Parker and Aston Villa fan Lee Jackson on this week's Clash of the Correspondents ahead of Sunday's meeting between the two at Molineux. There's reflection on Julen Lopetegui's eve of season departure from Wolves, thoughts on Gary O'Neil so far and why for Villa fans it still feels like the honeymoon period is continuing with Unai Emery. Plus, lots of FPL relevant chat with Villa assets particularly on the agenda with Matty Cash, Moussa Diaby and weekend hat-trick hero Ollie Watkins all proving popular. But are there cheaper alternatives to consider from Villa Park? And Pedro Neto looks to be rediscovering his best form for Wolves, but does 'The Korean Guy', Hwang Hee-Chan offer even better prospects as an FPL enabler? Kelly Cates presents the first Saturday Night Football of the 2023/24 season alongside Jamie Redknapp, Andros Townsend and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink who witnessed Newcastle produce an impressive 5-1 victory against Aston Villa at a raucous St. James’ Park. Redknapp was particularly impressed by Sandro Tonali’s instant impact in Newcastle’s midfield and said "It was one of the most impressive debuts from a midfielder I've seen in this league”. Townsend singled out Anthony Gordon, who was also instrumental for the Magpies, and he feels the winger has got his confidence back after helping the England Under-21’s win the European Championship’s in the summer. The trio also discuss Harry Kane's transfer to Bayern Munich and whether it was the right move for the England striker. Alexandar Isak, who was another player to shine for the hosts with two goals, gives his post-match thoughts as well as both managers, Eddie Howe and Unai Emery. Lee Jackson joins James to kick off Correspondent Week Tuesday to discuss Aston Villa who have the addition of European football this season after a great end to the season under Unai Emery and they could now have eyes on the top 6. There’s discussion on tactics and the importance of Villa’s attacking bias to one specific side of the pitch and how this may impact the likes of new signing Moussa Diaby. Villa have 6 4.5 defenders, which is best? Ollie Watkins is growing in popularity and with good reason too and there’s an overview of the squad in search of gems and that includes the surprisingly good returns of 5.5 midfielder Douglas Luiz. On Clash of the Correspondents this week Jameas is joined by Wolves fan Bradley Parker and Aston Villa fan Lee Jackson to preview Saturday's GW35 meeting at Molineux and discuss the latest at their clubs. It was a dismal showing for Wolves as they conceded six at Brighton on Saturday. Was it a giant blip in what has so far been a positive climb out of trouble for Julen Lopetegui's side? Or is there real cause for concern? Villa too suffered a setback at Old Trafford on Sunday in their quest for European qualification but with the 3 teams directly above to follow Wolves Unai Emery's side know qualification for Thursday night football is very much in their hands. Plus, best Wolves FPL enabler, whether to start or bench the likes of Tyrone Mings and Alex Moreno and the danger of selling Ollie Watkins... Dave Jones presents 'Saturday Night Football' alongside Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Lee Hendrie, and they watched Aston Villa beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to move above the hosts and into the top half of the Premier League. Lee described Chelsea’s defending as ‘schoolboy’ whilst Jimmy said their main problem is putting the ball in the back of the net and they need to be calmer in front of goal. The duo also highlighted Ollie Watkins’ performance which was capped by another away goal and the forward produced a standout performance. Mykhaylo Mudryk again failed to impress for Chelsea and missed some key chances, but Hasselbaink defended the forward saying that he needs more time to settle. However, Hendrie feels the Ukrainian should have converted the opportunities he failed to capitalise on. They also discuss Graham Potter’s future, and feel if the negative results continue, the pressure will build. Hendrie thinks the Champions League tie against Real Madrid will be crucial to determine Potter's outcome. Hasselbaink however believes Chelsea’s board should look at Arsenal’s decision to back Mikel Arteta and trust the process as the Gunners are a great example of adopting that approach. There is also reaction from both goal scorers, Ollie Watkins and John McGinn as well as Graham Potter, who felt Chelsea were second best in both boxes despite having more attempts. Unai Emery also gives his views on the result and said that securing European football for next season will be difficult, but they will try to achieve it.
