Newcastle v Crystal Palace | CotC with Simon Bibby & Ruaidhri McLaughlin-Dowd | Planet FPL 2023/24

On the first of three Clash of the Correspondents during this International break James is joined by Newcastle fan Simon Bibby and Crystal Palace fan Ruaidhri McLaughlin-Dowd to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of the GW9 meeting between the two at James' Park. Ten points from the last 4 in the league from the Toon Army which included five consecutive clean sheets across three competitions, there's been a 4-1 beating of PSG in the Champions League and an 8-0 away win at Sheffield United and it's meant FPL assets, particularly defensively are of interest. But it's Palace who current have the highest scoring goalkeeper in FPL (Sam Johnstone) and the highest scoring defender (Joachim Andersen!). And despite a growing and concerning injury list The Eagles find themselves only 1 point behind Newcastle in the table. Is Kieran Trippier worth the 2 million or so more than the other Newcastle defenders in FPL? And if not who is the best from the cheaper assets? Does Marc Guehi at 0.4 cheaper than teammate Andersen worth consideration now The Dane is approaching the 5.0 mark? Plus, can Callum Wilson or Alexander Isak be invested in despite injury and rotation concerns? How much should Fantasy managers be considering Anthony Gordon and can Palace find the way to goal with Michael Olise still unavailable and talisman Ebe Eze now sidelined? ...and does this have the potential to be last on Match of the Day.... again? Super Sunday | Nunez stuns Newcastle after Van Dijk sees red | Carra: 'That's one of Klopp's best victories'

Kelly Cates presents Super Sunday from St. James' Park alongside Jamie Carragher, Shay Given, and Andros Townsend, and they discussed and analysed the major talking points from Liverpool's dramatic 2-1 win against Newcastle which was delivered by two late goals from substitute Darwin Nunez. The visitors' victory was made even more impressive as they played the majority of the game with ten players after Virgil Van Dijk was dismissed shortly after Anthony Gordon gave the hosts the lead. Carragher labelled the victory as one of Jurgen Klopp’s best victories as a manager. Van Dijk’s red card wasn’t the only moment of controversy as Trent Alexander-Arnold was involved in two separate incidents early in the first half but avoided a second yellow card. Both Carra and Given agreed that the full-back should have been sent off. Carragher also said Liverpool can challenge Manchester City this season and be their biggest rivals again but they need to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes on Friday. Speaking with Pat Davison after the match, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe felt the match could have been more comfortable had his players been more ruthless in front of goal, whilst Jurgen Klopp said that the result was even harder than their famous 4-0 home win over Barcelona in 2019, that saw them overturn a three-goal deficit on aggregate to reach the Champions League final. SNF | Newcastle make statement against Villa | Redknapp marvels at Tonali’s impact, ‘it was one of the most impressive debuts I’ve seen'

Kelly Cates presents the first Saturday Night Football of the 2023/24 season alongside Jamie Redknapp, Andros Townsend and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink who witnessed Newcastle produce an impressive 5-1 victory against Aston Villa at a raucous St. James’ Park. The trio also discuss Harry Kane's transfer to Bayern Munich and whether it was the right move for the England striker. Alexandar Isak, who was another player to shine for the hosts with two goals, gives his post-match thoughts as well as both managers, Eddie Howe and Unai Emery.
