The Reaction: Liverpool finish top despite defeat

In this episode of The Reaction, Arne Slot and James McConnell gave their verdict as Liverpool ended the Champions League league phase in top spot despite a 3-2 defeat away at PSV Eindhoven. In the LFCTV studio, former players Phil Thompson and Jay Spearing joined Rob Jones for The Matchday Live post-match show, plus we got fan panel contributions from Dan Austin, Carl Woodward, and Jake Lota from the OLSC in Toronto.

Referees vs The Limelight, passages of terror & Matt 1 Hernia 0

Adam Hurrey is joined on the midweek Adjudication Panel by Charlie Eccleshare and David Walker. On the agenda: yet another new rival for the "corridor of uncertainty", the media taking Ruben Amorim slightly too literally, a listener's deciding an appropriate scoreline for his hernia operation, more Ligue 1 voiceover curiosity, and a tribute to the soon-to-be-retired Eurosport brand. Meanwhile, the panel ponder whether referees really do "seek the limelight" and whether the new-look Champions League officially passes the “whisper it but...” threshold. Champions League fates to be sealed as Barca put 7 past Valencia

Jimbo’s joined by his continental crew - James Horncastle, Julien Laurens, Pol Ballús and Seb Stafford-Bloor - to look back on the latest week of action from across Europe AND look ahead to the decisive Champions League matchday 8 ties. Nine teams have already been eliminated from the competition with three more to go, but can Manchester City avoid being one of them? Belgian football expert Kristof Terreur joins us to preview their must-win game against Club Brugge. Elsewhere, it’s also finely poised between Stuttgart and PSG who sit 24th and 22nd in the table… Back to domestic matters, and in Serie A Napoli continued their fine form and made it 7 wins on the bounce as they fought back from a goal to win 2-1 over Juventus and end their unbeaten record. Plus, drama at the San Siro as Conceição and Calabria almost came to blows… In La Liga Kylian Mbappé bagged his first hat-trick for Real Madrid as they went four points clear at the top of the table after a 3-0 victory over Real Valladolid. That’s after Atléti were held to a 1-1 draw with Villarreal, while Barcelona put just the seven past Valencia as they got back to winning ways in the league. Over in Germany, Bayern moved six points clear at the top after their 2-1 win at Freiburg, while closest rivals Leverkusen saw a two-goal lead evaporate as they were held by Leipzig. And in Ligue 1, PSG dropped points for the fifth time this season in a 1-1 draw with Reims at the Parc de Princes. But they’ve actually extended their lead at the top to 10 points after Marseille were beaten 2-0 by Nice in the Derby de la Mediterranée. Produced by Lucy Oliva. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: Moments of the weekend (00.45) • PART 2: Champions League preview including Man City v Club Brugge with Kristof Terreur (07.30) • PART 3: Bundesliga review - Bayern go six points clear while Dortmund close in on Kovac (26.45) • PART 4: Serie A review - Napoli’s winning streak continues as Conceição cracks the whip (39.25) • PART 5: Ligue 1 review - PSG drop points but still manage to extend their lead at the top (54.15) • PART 6: La Liga review - Mbappé gets a hat-trick while Barca put 7 past Valencia (61.15) Hosted on Acast. The James McAtee Episode

James McAtee is the latest guest on the Official Man City Podcast! Another of our special homegrown talents, McAtee is enjoying his first season as a regular member of Pep Guardiola's world-class squad. The 22-year-old has already spent more than a decade at the Club, joining our youth ranks from Under-11s onwards. Touted early on as a player that could make an impression at the top of the game, McAtee has worked hard to earn the trust of Pep Guardiola. And in recent weeks and months the Salford-born attacking midfielder has made giant leaps, influencing games and scoring goals whether starting or coming on from the bench. His hat-trick against Salford City earlier this month is already a highlight in what McAtee hopes will be a long time at the Club, while he's also notched his first Champions League and Premier League strikes for City this term. In this chat with George Kelsey and Nedum Onuoha, McAtee details his journey so far and the sporting heritage in his family. He also recounts how two very different campaigns on loan at Sheffield United - the first a Championship promotion and the second a Premier League relegation - have steeled him for the rollercoaster ride of a career in professional football. The Preview - Man City vs Chelsea

After already spending more than €140m in the January transfer window, do Manchester City need further additions? Following five Premier League games without a victory, Chelsea got back to winning ways on Monday beating Wolves 3-1 at Stamford Bridge, but how does Enzo Maresca get his forwards firing again? Plus we check in with the club podcasts across The Athletic FC and look ahead to a fixture that nobody would've predicted being quite so exciting when the season kicked off; Bournemouth vs Nottingham Forest.
