Happy Gracia: Watford stay perfect, West Ham struggle and Arsenal muddle through

The sun is shining for Watford as they simultaneously ruffle Spurs’ feathers and give us all a lesson in parenting. At Liverpool, Alisson Becker gives hope of a recall to The Substitute Keeper and Joe Hart knackers himself seeing off Paul Pogba’s silly run up. We have an unsolicited update on Pete’s vendettas where the emails are supposed to be, discover that Phil Neville knows his ice cream and are disappointed to hear of some very unFulhamish behaviour. Episode 291 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Streaky Breakin' - Timbers v Whitecaps analysis, TFC preview, Stefan Marinovic)

Big games require big performances with big moments. If Vancouver Whitecaps' showing in Portland this weekend is an indication, then the team look to have the stomach for the battle ahead. There's a lot to talk about and we have five of AFTN's finest to do just that, all of them from various places around Cascadia. With Steve home alone in upper Cascadia, and Zach stuck with a broken down car in middle Cascadia, Michael joins on the phone from the lower Cascadia coast to look back at the 'Caps fantastic win against the Timbers. A strong defensive team effort was on show and the guys break it down, with the help of some audio from both head coaches. Joe and Nick are in the house, their own one, not the studio, to bring their preview expertise to the show and look ahead to what is set to be a dramatic Canadian Championship final second leg in Toronto midweek. The 'Caps head in as the underdogs, but every dog has its day, so can Wednesday be the Whitecaps one? All this, plus we hear from Stefan Marinovic after the win in Portland, look at what the 'Caps lack of spending in this transfer window may mean, Zach joins Steve to look at the weekend's action around MLS West and Argy Bargy feature in this week's Wavelength. TSMLS #42: In the Big Apple

Andrew and Nick talk Andrew's trip to New York, the Canadian Championship and more!

Episode 290 - The AFTN Soccer Show (A Storm In A V Cup - TFC postgame and Timbers preview show)

Vancouver Whitecaps' cups runneth over right now. Not only are they right in the middle of a tantalizingly balance Voyageurs Cup final with Toronto FC, but there's the small matter of a Cascadia Cup game down in Portland on Saturday. Joe and Nick look back at the night that was that Canadian Championship first leg. The highs, the lows, the even lower still. It was an evening of goals, stupid defending, and a referee taking centre stage. Oh Canada indeed. Then they turn their attention to Saturday's match in Portland. The Timbers are unbeaten in 15, looking to set a club record, and facing a Whitecaps team that are frankly knackered. It's going to be tough but is this the kind of game that Vancouver will shine in and surprise? Or is a derby day calamity awaiting those of us making the long trip down the I-5? Have a listen!

School's back in: Pep and City pick up another trophy, Sarri doesn't know his size, and Warnock's back in the big time

Hello again friends, we're back and bloody excited for the new season! And there's plenty to get our teeth into as well - Pep Guardiola's Man City outwit Chelsea in the Community Shield, but we're still a way away from the full Sarrification of those Blues. There's also transfer news a go-go, particularly at Liverpool, and Jose Mourinho seems to be on a one-man mission to undermine everything at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, the Championship is back with a bang, and Pete spends quite a bit of time comparing the show to a big bouncy castle. A tortured analogy, and probably not the last one you'll hear from him this season, let's be honest. Episode 289 - The AFTN Soccer Show (No Room For Error)

August certainly feels like it could be a decisive month in terms of determining how successful we'll look back at Vancouver Whitecaps' 2018 season. It's started well. The 'Caps fielded an understrength side and took a point at New York City. Normally that would be considered a great result, and while good, it only saw them slip further behind in the chase for the playoffs. We look back at the match, hear from both head coaches, and delve into some individual player performances. We also look ahead to the first leg of the Canadian Championship final against Toronto FC on Wednesday, and hear some of the thoughts of Greg Vanney about how TFC will be approaching it. All this, plus does Kei Kamara fancy a chocolate digestive, what ice cream excites goalscorer Erik Hurtado, and we look at the weekend's action in the MLS West and The Last Resort feature in this week's Wavelength. Here's the full episode rundown of the main segments from the show:07.05: New York City FC v Vancouver Whitecaps match analysis27.02: Coaches audio - Carl Robinson and Domènec Torrent33.23: Whitecaps' player performances v NYC44.21: Erik Hurtado Ice Cream Man51.12: MLS West week in review62.49: The Whitecaps playoffs quest gets even tougher74.24: Anyone Fancy A Chocolate Digestive - Kei Kamara76.25: Whitecaps v TFC Canadian Championship preview - featuring Greg Vanney audio88.25: Wavelength - The Last Resort - Violence On Our Minds94.00: BC Soccerweb headlines - a look at some stories from around the football world

Episode 288 - The AFTN Soccer Show (A Puliser Prize - NYCFC v Vancouver Preview Show)

There's no rest for the wicked. Vancouver Whitecaps are in the midst of their toughest spell of the season with games coming thick and fast in both MLS and the Canadian Championship. The Whitecaps head to New York City on Saturday with the first leg of this year's Voyageurs Cup final coming up next Wednesday at home to Toronto firmly in their minds. Joe and Nick look ahead to the match with NYC. Can we expect mass rotation from Vancouver? Just what will that look like? And is there any expectation of whatever side the Whitecaps put out being able to get anything from an in-form team with an unbeaten home record? The guys chat about all this, plus talk salary dumps, Whitecaps season stats, and more. Have a listen!

Episode 286 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Darwinism - Vancouver v Minnesota Preview Show)

It's a grueling time for Vancouver Whitecaps. Three matches in eight days, with two of them in the space of four days, all of them crucial for how the season could play out, and it's sweltering hot outside. This will test a lot about the current 'Caps squad. After a gutless performance in Seattle, and a battling midweek one against Montreal to reach the Canadian Championship final, which Whitecaps team will we see turn up to take on an in-form Minnesota United side this weekend? Will there be more rotation to rest some guys up, or does Robbo ride a clean sheet and a good performance on Wednesday night with an almost same starting XI? Was that win against Montreal a blip or a turning point? How can the struggling Whitecaps defence cope with the huge danger posed by Minnesota's Darwin Quintero (9 goals and 6 assists), Christian Ramirez (7 goals and 2 assists), and Miguel Ibarra (6 goals and 6 assists)? Joe returns from baby daddy duties this week to discuss all of that and more with Nick, plus a quick look back over that win over the Impact, the Alphonso Davies transfer, and the guys play a frankly terrifying 'Choose Your Own Adventure' game with a Whitecaps twist. Have a listen!

Episode 283 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Capital Punishment - DC v Vancouver analysis, World Cup, Dale Mitchell, Colin Elmes)

Vancouver Whitecaps' seesaw of a season continued this past weekend as they went down to a 3-1 loss at the hands of D.C. United in the US capital. We analyse the main talking points to come out of the game, hear from 'Caps coach Carl Robinson, and ponder where the team can go from here. We also look ahead to the midweek Canadian Championship semi-final in Montreal and get some thoughts from Whitecaps President Bob Lenarduzzi on how the club view the Voyageurs Cup. Plus a look at the weekend in the MLS West and we make Mike Petke's postgame rant on Saturday even more epic. We've got two interviews for you this week. The first is with a Canadian Hall of Famer - a member of Canada's only ever World Cup squad from Mexico 1986, Dale Mitchell. We talk World Cup memories and his hopes for what the Canadian Premier League will do for the latest crop of talent as they build towards 2026, and maybe even 2022. We also chat with TSS Rovers head coach Colin Elmes about his team's second season in the PDL and what he's learned from it to take into their third one next year. All this, plus lots of World Cup talk, World Cup Wavelength continues this week with a song from 1998, and some Canadian Premier League chat. Episode 275 - The AFTN Soccer Show (System Addict with guests Stefan Marinovic, Simon Colyn, and Marco Carducci)

Vancouver Whitecaps head into their bye week (call it what it is) unbeaten in six and starting to find some attacking form. The defence is still looking a bit dodgy and they still struggle at times when they have a man advantage, but there's a lot more optimistic feel around the place than it was perhaps a month ago. We look back at the 'Caps five star win over Orlando on Saturday - the highs, the lows, and how some of the players are shaping up at this near midway point of the season. We also hear postgame comments from both coaches, Orlando's Jason Kreis and Vancouver's Carl Robinson. We have three interviews for you this week. Happy Easter you lot! We drag ourselves to the studio even on a Bank Holiday to bring you news of Alan Pardew’s departure from West Brom, David Wagner’s relaxed attitude towards the relegation battle and Man City preparing their championship champagne. Lee Dixon - S03 E02

Series 3 - Episode 2 - Lee Dixon In terms of value for money, there can be few more astute signings than the £375,000 George Graham paid Stoke City for Lee Dixon in January 1988. 25% of arguably the greatest 90s defence, Lee finished his Arsenal career with four league titles, three FA Cup winners medals, a UEFA Cup Winner's Cup medal and infamously a runners-up medal in the latter competition too. But it was the first of his league championship medals that intrigued us most; the night of 26th May 1989, Liverpool v Arsenal - a championship play off in the last game of the season. For a whole host of reasons, from Fever Pitch to the ramifications of the Hillsborough disaster, the 1988/89 season marked the end of football as it had largely been for 100 years. And in it's culmination, Michael Thomas' last minute winner didn't just cement the league for Arsenal, it also cemented the idea of live football as a major box office draw, with the dawn of the Premier League coming soon after. We put all of this to Lee. Plus... we speculate as to whether Sean Dyche eats worms. Episode 246 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Montreal Preview Show with special guest Jordon Mutch)

Welcome to the first of a new regular preview podcast we'll be recording for your aural delight this season, as we look forward to First Kick on Sunday as Vancouver Whitecaps host Montreal Impact at B.C. Place. Now one of the reasons we have such a big team here at AFTN is that we like to have a variety of voices and opinions covering the 'Caps and MLS. It keeps the site fresh and vibrant, and we decided to add a second weekly podcast to the mix hosted by three of our team - Joe Deasy, Gideon Hill, and Nicolaas Rupprecht. Look at it as the NWO Hollywood and Wolfpack from the old World Championship Wrestling days, or the Bullet Club currently in Ring of Honor and New Japan. Anyway, I digress. It's their show, with their ideas and segments, and will act as a great companion pod for our Sunday show on CiTR Radio. This first episode takes a look back at what we can possibly learn from the 'Caps preseason, what the team may look like on Sunday, and casts it's eye over Montreal. What they will bring and should they be feared? There's fun, there's games, and a special guest too as Michael sits down for a chat with the newest Whitecap, midfielder Jordon Mutch. There's a little bit of a tinny sound to this episode due to the need to have to clean out some background hum, but hopefully it doesn't spoil your enjoyment too much. Have a listen! Here's the full episode rundown of the main segments from the show:02.20: Whitecaps preseason review17.10: Do You Know Who I Am?19.49: Jordon Mutch interview30.21: Vancouver v Montreal preview

Play Up Pompeii: Man City win the Carabao Cup, Jose Mourinho gets one over on Antonio Conte and Alan Pardew needs to get busy

Pep Guardiola gets his first trophy as Man City manager, inspires another dissection of Arsenal and is accused of harbouring a fugitive all at once, while Jose Mourinho emerges victorious in a rare on-pitch ding dong with Antonio Conte, and down at The Hawthorns Alan Pardew is as bemused as the rest of us. On top of all this there’s a warlock, an earful for Tony Pulis and though there may be bad blood in the correspondence section there’s also a trip to Kevin Keegan’s Soccer Circus and a humble gift from Sol Campbell. Sol Campbell is COMPLETELY NORMAL: Wigan shock Man City again, Man United and Chelsea face off and Liverpool look to march on…

The FA Cup has delivered again, as just when it looked like Man City might win everything, up stepped Wigan, and then for some reason Peter Reid. Composing ourselves after this development we look ahead to the Carabao Cup Final, look back at Pete’s red carpet adventures and reflect on Nobby Solano’s choice of holiday destination. Meanwhile, on the same show, Patrice Evra Patrice Evras, Mesut Ozil gets the sniffles and we take a brief moment to remember to worry about England. Little Earthquakes: Rochdale hold Spurs, West Brom suffer after Taxigate and Man United fall afoul of VAR

This week brings wonderful drama from the FA Cup courtesy of Rochdale and their manager Keith Hill, a man who in a way is all of our dads, Carlos Carvalhal distracts from a goalless draw with some welcome Police Academy chat and in The Championship Mimin’ Mick McCarthy is gloriously tetchy after the Old Farm Derby. As well as all this precious gold there’s the novel concept of tackling above the head, some retro Portsmouth organisational slapstick and some sausage-based fun north of the border. Outspent by Wrexham: The North London derby, victorious Newcastle and penalty drama at Stoke

This show features that rarest of beasts; a happy Pete Donaldson, giddy from a Newcastle win and a mutant chicken binge. Not only that, we have the North London Derby, chaos between Stoke and Brighton and more importantly, a penis being seen. If that isn’t enough there’s also time for revelations about football’s bald illuminati, Tim Sherwood’s surprising sideline and our interest being piqued by the concept of a solution to the “not quite a yellow, not quite a red” problem.
