On the first of two Clash of the Correspondents focusing towards the bottom of the table this week, James is joined by Wolves fan Bradley Parker and Burnley fan Jack Toner to discuss matters at their club ahead of what already feels like a 6-pointer at Molineux on Saturday. Wolves remain winless and on only two points following defeat at Sunderland and Bradley reveals that speculation in the Wolves community suggests not all is well with Vitor Pereira. Is a change of manager looking inevitable. For Burnley, wins from games against fellow promoted clubs Sunderland and Leeds means they can be pleased that they currently sit outside the relegation zone despite having a tough opening schedule. And the majority of The Clarets team could make a claim to be interesting as enabling options with discussion on Martin Dubravka, Maxime Esteve, Axel Tuanzebe, Jaidon Athony, midfield DEFCON monsters and Lyle Foster. For Wolves however, there is less appeal. Talisman Jorgen Strand Larsen has had injury issues and remains without a goal. Is he a sell for owners or should they keep patience? And what confidence can we have the two sides ability to beat the drop? Jimbo opens the Totally Almanac in 2006 and is joined by Duncan Alexander, Benji Lanyado and special guest Alan Curbishley to discuss an unforgettable West Ham season. It was the tale of two Alan's and two Argentinians with Alan Pardew sacked, Alan Curbishley brought in and Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano pitching up in East London to almost everyone's surprise. A baptism of fire for the new Icelandic owners as the club eventually pulled off the great escape on the final day by completing a double against the champions Man Utd. Curbishley tells Jimbo about the pivotal moment he sat down with Tevez and his interpretor to inspire his season saving goals. It didn't end there though with Sheffield United taking them to court over the Tevez and Mascherano deal and Curbishley leaving, never to manage again. Plus two West Ham 06/07 themed quiz questions from Duncan. Produced by Jesse Howard, Lucy Oliva and Charlie Jones. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1a: Benji’s bid for West Ham (00.40) • PART 1b: Duncan’s quiz question (3.05) • PART 1c: The Totally Extra Almanac (4.12) • PART 2a: Welcome to 2006 and Upton Park (06.30) • PART 2b: Alan Curbishley joins Jimbo (24.05) • PART 3a: The double over Man Utd and the miracle turnaround (35.11) • PART 3b: What next for all of the 06/07 season protagonists (45.40) • PART 3c: Duncan’s quiz answered (52.00) Hosted on Acast. Rog and Rory break down another weekend of drama-soaked Premier League action, including Liverpool's heartbreak at Stamford Bridge: is it Mo Salah, not Arne Slot, that is to blame? Then, with Arsenal top of the table once again, Rog and Rory explain why a nonchalant win over West Ham may be more important than their thriller over Newcastle. Finally, Estêvão's winner has vaulted him into Chelsea fan lore...just how good is the teenage phenom? It’s early days, but following on from last weekend, it felt like the balance shifted in the Premier League this match day. Narratives were flipped and results seemed more crucial, heading into the men’s international break. Musa and Ryan begin at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea’s win over Liverpool highlighted a few issues that Arne Slot has trying to figure out all season (04:26). Arsenal’s win at home to West Ham saw them go top (19:37), with the noise from a fortnight ago fully subsiding. Elsewhere (32:31), Everton ended Palace’s unbeaten run, Manchester United kept it calm, Bournemouth continue to impress and much more in the Premier League. Finally, there’s a quick shout out for La Liga, the Bundesliga, Serie A and more (40:01). Tickets are available for our live show at the Southbank Centre in London on December 4th and are on sale here. It was a week that begun with Antoine Semenyo hauling again and finished with another goal for Erling Haaland, but the final card for many reads could've done better and that's the case for both Suj and James on the Gameweek 7 Review. Liverpool lost again with another blank for Mohamed Salah in their late defeat at Chelsea which means Arsenal, victors against Suj's West Ham, are now top, but it was a disappointing day for Viktor Gyokeres owners. James' Tottenham are now third but the result was again better than the display in victory at Leeds where Mohammed Kudus starred and returned well. All the games reviewed with eyes on moves for after the International break. Who's on radar? Who's for the chop? And there's a warning that a number of FPL forwards may be about to do well in forthcoming weeks. Jimbo welcomes Daniel Storey, Duncan Alexander and Mark Carey onto the pod after another seismic weekend of Premier League action. It's 3 defeats in a row for champions Liverpool after another stoppage time winner for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Which allows Arsenal to take top spot. What's going on with Arne Slot's side? Crystal Palace suffer their first defeat of the season as Everton come from behind to secure a late victory through Jack Grealish. Cue limbs at Hill Dickinson. What now for Ange Postecoglou? 7 games without a win at Forest as they lose 2-0 Newcastle. Plus more Bournemouth brilliance and Man United make it 3 home wins on the bounce. Dharmesh Sheth is joined by Julien Laurens, Jacqui Oatley and The Telegraph’s Jason Burts to reflect on the weekend’s sporting action. We begin with Chelsea’s last-minute win over Liverpool at the Bridge. Whilst Laurens praises Maresca’s victory and show of emotion, he criticises Liverpool’s lack of control, with a third loss in eight days. Jason believes Liverpool’s winning start to the season was unsustainable and considers it a missed opportunity that they didn’t buy Marc Guehi in the summer. Next we look to Man United’s home win over Sunderland; whilst Julien focuses on Amorim’s side’s lack of consistency, was this clean sheet and good performance a sign of things to come? We then have The Athletic’s Megan Feringa on the pod to talk WSL; how far can Manchester United go this season? And with Arsenal dropping seven points already in the WSL, after bringing in Olivia Smith, why is it they can’t get over the line in the league in the same way the likes of Chelsea are able to? We also look at Arsenal’s win against West Ham, taking them to the top of the Premier League and Julien believes the Gunners’ control gave Nuno’s side no chance of winning the game. Finally, a gritty win for Tottenham against Leeds showed Thomas Frank’s ability to bring a different side to Spurs; Jason believes Frank can get them back in to the top four this season. Running Order: 3mins – Liverpool Lose 3-in-a-row 20mins – United Back to Winning Ways 38mins – Megan Feringa on WSL 46mins – Arsenal Rise to the Top 65mins – Frank’s New-Look Spurs Sunday Supplement is a Sky Sports podcast. Paul Konchseky in the hot seat today, starting out playing Sunday League with the likes of John Terry, Bobby Zamora, Sol Campbell, and Ledley King to making his professional debut for Charlton at just 16. Konchesky remembers that famous playoff win over Sunderland, fiery training ground bust-ups, and the falling out with Alan Curbishley that eventually led him to West Ham. Along the way there are brilliant dressing room tales, including Scott Parker’s transfer tactics, Andy Todd’s short fuse, and Stephen Bywater with the best excuse you’ll ever hear for not saving a shot. Suj and James review the weekend of Gameweek 6 where many who Wildcarded and those who used the Triple Captaincy had success... spare a thought for those who don't own Erling Haaland... because it was another week where for many returns were difficult to come by. All the games discussed, including Arsenal's late and deserved win at Newcastle and it's Gunners assets who are likely to be a priority for many FPL managers this week as they prepare to host West Ham United, now managed by Nuno Espirito Santo. Crystal Palace maintained their strong start with their own late victory against Liverpool, City hit five as Haaland too left it late on a weekend where nine goals were scored in added time. One of those goals was scored by Tottenham, but James was far from happy with their draw against a Wolves side who went into the weekend without a point. Chelsea were again beaten after a man was sent off and the Manchester United inquest continues after defeat at Brentford. There's also chat on the continued success of DEFCON monsters such as Marcos Senesi, fixture turns, concern for Nottingham Forest and more... Jimbo's got Natalie Gedra, Duncan Alexander and Charlie Eccleshare alongside him for a look back on all the midweek action (so far) - and look ahead to MD6 in the Premier League. We begin with all the League Cup drama - including Ekitike's misguided undressing, Diego Gomez's banger after banger - and Joao Palhinha's overhead kick. There's also reaction to Forest's 2-2 draw with Real Betis in the Europa League on Wednesday night. Then it's all eyes on the Premier League weekend - with the battle of the unbeaten sides at Selhurst Park, Arsenal trying to break their recent St James' hoodoo, Villa hoping to end their worrying start to the season - and Chelsea desperate to recapture some of that Cole Palmer magic after his remarkable first half showing in this fixture last year. All that plus stellar pitches, bucolic walks, tough interviews - and an unfortunate cameraman. Produced by Charlie Jones and Lucy Oliva. On the GW5 Review with Suj and James, Erling Haaland scores again and now for those not on the Manchester City forward the wave of transfers to buy him in has begun... Suj was already there, but will James continue to go against!? All the games reviewed, including Pep's City going low block as they tried to hold on at Arsenal, Liverpool won the Merseyside Derby, West Ham and Wolves were beaten again and though they didn't win James was far happier with what he saw from Tottenham at The Amex. There's a theme of enablers as those looking to get Haaland in may also need to find money, Cole Palmer's latest setback in a wild defeat for Chelsea at Old Trafford puts him in a 'no buy' territory, whilst the frustrations with Villa assets continues and there's repeated warnings about upcoming rotation. Jimbo has Daniel Storey, Jay Harris and Adrian Clarke for company, reacting to an enthralling Matchday 5 in the Premier League. Man City were seconds away from a victory at the Emirates in a distinctly un-Pep performance before Gabriel Martinelli struck to make it 1-1. But champions Liverpool go 5 points clear after their Merseyside derby win on Saturday. Is Ryan Gravenberch the player of the season so far? Elsewhere Wolves are rock bottom with no points, Villa scored but couldn't beat 10-man Sunderland and Chelsea's bad run at Old Trafford continued. And we pay tribute to Oliver Glasner’s Eagles who beat hapless West Ham to make it 17 games unbeaten. Produced by Charlie Jones RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1a: Arsenal 1-1 Man City (04.00) • PART 1b: The rest of Sunday’s action (14.30) • PART 2a: Liverpool 2-1 Everton (22.00) • PART 2b: Man United 2-1 Chelsea (26.30) • PART 2c: Brighton 2-2 Spurs (32.00) • PART 3a: West Ham 1-2 Crystal Palace (39.00) • PART 3b: Wolves 1-3 Leeds (47.00) • PART 3c: Burnley 1-1 Forest (50.00) • PART 3d: Fulham 3-1 Brentford (54.00) Hosted on Acast. Dharmesh Sheth is joined by ESPN’s Mark Ogden, The Mail’s Craig Hope and The Mirror’s John Cross to reflect on the weekend’s sporting action. We begin with Man United’s chaotic home win against Chelsea. Craig believes United will always have enough quality to keep bad managers in good jobs. But will this win be a turning point in their season? Next we look at Graham Potter, who’s feeling the pressure as West Ham were booed off, after a loss at home to Crystal Palace. Mark believes Potter tries to play an attractive style of football, but is there any way back for him from here? We also look at the difficult situation at Wolves, and whilst Vitor Pereira is struggling, Craig argues that Wolves have the right man in the role, and losing Cunha and Ait-Nouri was always going to be tough. Elsewhere, we look at Arsenal v Man City; John thinks Liverpool are setting such a relentless standard, that already in the season we have must-win games for the teams looking to challenge. We then move to Liverpool’s Merseyside derby win. Mark highlights Liverpool’s fire power but there’s also a running theme of throwing away leads this season. Finally, The Athletic’s Charlotte Harpur comes on to the pod to talk of the sad news of Liverpool FC Women’s manager Matt Beard’s passing. Charlotte talks of Matt’s legacy both on and off the pitch, including consecutive WSL wins and Matt's empathetic character. On Clash of the Correspondents the mood is far from positive as James welcomes Wolves fan Bradley Parker and Leeds fan Ed Salinger to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of a crucial meeting at Molineux on Saturday. Wolves have lost all of their first four and though Leeds are running at a point a game they have only scored once, a penalty, so far. How concerned should we be about the outlook for these two clubs. Or should there be reason for positivity? They are the top two on James' rolling five week ticker and the opportunity to play each other gives both the opportunity to gain maximum points. Another dramatic weekend for FPL reviewed which included Mo Salah leaving it late again and Erling Haaland dominating in the Manchester Derby. But perhaps the biggest takeaway this weekend was for defensive assets, with half the teams keeping clean sheets and there will have been a full house for many who invested in defensive assets on Wildcards and Free Hits. All the games reviewed, including how much we shouyld read into Ange Postecoglu's opener with Forest in defeat at Arsenal, how Brentford and Chelsea switched tactics in an entertaining London Derby thta included a comeback goal for Cole Palmer, and the points went James' way in the Planet FPL Derby as Tottenham won comfortably at Suj's West Ham... but he didn't have the better of it when it came to points in FPL this week. Can Haaland really be avoided in GW6? Can faith still be kept in Aston Villa and Ollie Watkins? Plus, captaincy options for GW5 and lots more. Jimbo is joined by Duncan Alexander, Jay Harris and Tom Williams in the studio after the return of the Premier League. City sweep United aside in the Manchester derby, with Erling Haaland adding to his massive goal tally this week. Arsenal's new signings impress in the 3-0 victory over Ange Postecoglou's Forest. And it's more misery for West Ham, Wolves and goalless Villa. Plus great headers, ref cams and the latest evolution in non-celebrations. Dharmesh Sheth is joined by The Independent’s Miguel Delaney, The Times’ Charlotte Duncker and The Daily Mail’s Riath Al-Samarrai. We begin with Arsenal’s convincing win over Forest at the Emirates; was this performance the sign of things to come? Miguel emphasises Arteta’s impressive squad depth, and Riath praises Gyokeres, with three goals in his first four league games. Next we look at Newcastle’s new signing Nick Woltemade, who helped Eddie Howe’s side to a win against Wolves on his debut. Riath believes Woltemade will bring the best out of the player’s around him. We then have The Athletic’s James Pearce on to the pod, highlighting Isak’s arrival at Liverpool as an exciting option for more rotation in Arne Slot’s side this year. Elsewhere, we look at Tottenham’s thrashing of West Ham; Riath comments on Thomas Frank’s fantastic start to the season and Miguel talks of Frank’s ability to adapt tactics and use pragmaticism effectively. Finally, we look at the Manchester Derby; Charlotte mentions that whilst Pep hasn’t had the best start, Ruben Amorim’s problems are significantly worse. There's a recap of all the midweek international action - including England turning on the style in their 5-0 win out in Serbia. Plus, Norway took a huge stride towards the 2026 World Cup as they put just the ELEVEN goals past Moldova on Tuesday evening! And of course, we've got all the build-up to the Premier League weekend - and the small matter of a Manchester derby to look forward to at the Etihad. And will West Ham prove that shock win at Forest last time out wasn't a fluke when they host rivals Tottenham? Produced by Charlie Jones and Lucy Oliva.
