FFP/PSR Impact on Transfer Spending | The People's Poll ep. 138 | Planet FPL 2023/24

Clayton joins James for a discussion on the lack of spending in the January transfer window and ask if this is a one off caused by fear of failing Profit and Sustainability Reporting or of it's the start of a new trend for spending within the Premier League. Did Everton's points deduction cause fear throughout the league to curb spending and show that FFP/PSR really did have teeth? There's talk of clever accounting, why some transfers may be done differently, the importance of home grown players and if this new era of spending sustainability might end as quickly as it starts? Do You Phil Safe? | Planet FPL S. 7 Ep. 27 | GW19 Review | Fantasy Premier League

It's green arrows for Suj and James on the Gameweek 19 Review but very different fortunes for their teams on a dramatic Thursday night as Brighton scored four against Tottenham at The Amex and West Ham caused a shock by winning 2-0 at Arsenal. And they weren't the only surprises this week as Chris Wood scored a stunning hat-trick in Nottingham Forest's victory at Newcastle, while Wolves were another team to score big as they scored four at Brentford and there were some surprising bonus points for offensive FPL defenders. All the games covered, including Manchester United's comeback victory against Aston Villa and Manchester City looked back to their best at Everton with Phil Foden the star of the show. And there's lots to debate ahead of tomorrow's GW20 FPL Deadline, with several great options for captaincy and some extreme benching headaches for some may lead to an activation of a number of Bench Boost chips. But there are warnings of more potential weekend rotation and notes that although GW20 may look great on paper for many FPL managers GW21 needs to be kept in mind, particularly with so many players leaving for AFCON and the Asia Cup. The Phil Foden Episode

Phil Foden says he can only ever see himself playing for City. The boyhood Blue, former Etihad ball-boy and Academy graduate revealed his dream of being a one-club player in the latest episode of the official Man City Podcast, ‘In Conversation With…’ Asked whether he’d ever considered playing anywhere else or even going out on loan when he was younger, Foden said: “No, honestly. I just always see myself as a City player. “I always just thought if I work hard enough and I know what my ability is about, I can push in the team and over time I started getting more minutes and now I'm probably getting the most minutes I've had this year “So yeah, I've worked really hard for it and it's thanks to the manager also for trusting me, so I have to thank the manager for that for trusting me and keeping me around.” The Academy pin-up boy, Foden is an inspiration for the youngsters coming through the ranks. And after watching three more graduates – Micah Hamilton, Oscar Bobb and Rico Lewis - star in the 3-2 win over Red Star Belgrade – he says nothing makes him happier than seeing others follow in his footsteps. Ahead of tonight's GW15 Deadline it's a top 4 Clash of the Correspondents as James is joined by Aston Villa fan Lee Jackson and Manchester City fan Jonny Pringle to discuss the latest at their clubs and preview the Wednesday night meeting at Villa Park. Villa could go above City with victory and then face Arsenal next, could they mount an unlikely title challenge if this week goes well? There's FPL chat on Villa assets ahead of the all important Blank Gameweek 18 featuring discussion on Matty Cash, Moussa Diaby and Ollie Watkins in particular. Premier League Weekend Wrap: Liverpool humble Man Utd, Arsenal back from the brink, Chelsea unconvincing in victory

On a dramatic weekend in the Premier League, we start off at Anfield where Roy Keane dissects Man Utd's battering at the hands of Liverpool, before Mo Salah explains how long he has waited to become the Reds' all-time top goalscorer. It's then down to London for a fairytale Arsenal comeback to earn a 97th-minute win over Bournemouth, as witnessed by Sam Blitz at the Emirates. Back up in the North West, Pete Smith was our man at the Etihad to wax lyrical over Phil Foden and express his concerns over goal-shy Newcastle after the hosts' 2-0 win to keep up their title hopes. Dave Richardson explains why Chelsea's 1-0 win over Leeds won't bring too much comfort to under-fire Graham Potter, while Declan Rice lays bare the hurt of West Ham's 4-0 defeat at Brighton in conversation with Sky Sports. Adam Bate tries to pick the bones out of an archetypal game of two halves as Wolves shock Tottenham 1-0 at Molineux, and Dan Sansom sets out exactly the size of Southampton's 1-0 win over Leicester to lift them off the bottom of the table. Last but not least, there's Everton's draw at Nottm Forest and Aston Villa's 1-0 win over Crystal Palace. And that's your Premier League Weekend Wrap! Rashford’s resurgence, Pulisic puts USA through & politics dominates Iran discourse

That’s a wrap for Groups A and B. England sailed past Wales with a resounding 3-0 win, courtesy of a remarkable Marcus Rashford brace and goal from Phil Foden. Gareth Southgate’s side will face Group A runners-up Senegal in the last-16. USA qualify in second place in Group B after their 1-0 win over Iran, and they will go up against Group A winners, the Netherlands. That match was largely overshadowed by the political tension surrounding Iran. Joining Adam Leventhal to bring us the stories of anti-Iranian government protests and how female Iran fans fear they are being spied on whilst attending games are Athletic writers Adam Crafton and Charlotte Harpur, while Jack Pitt-Brooke and Alex Abnos dissect the football. England and USA battle to a goalless draw as The Athletic’s Paul Tenorio once again rues missed opportunities for the US. And why can’t Gareth Southgate find room for Phil Foden? The early game between Wales and Iran highlights the agony of sporting defeat, the ecstasy of sporting victory and as Omid outlines, the grief surrounding what’s happening back home in Iran. But can progress to the last 16 help highlight Iran’s troubles to the world? Elsewhere, Qatar are the earliest exiting hosts ever as Enter Valencia continues to rack up the stats for Ecuador. And we ask Sebastian Garcia about the mood in Buneos Aires as they face potential elimination against Mexico on Saturday. Produced by Charlie Jones.
