It's a Championship Clash of the Correspondents as James catches up with Burnley fan Jack Toner and Luton Town fan Dan Ashby to discuss veryt differing fortunes for two clubs who were in the Premier League last season. Burnley are third with promotion in sight and have a barely believable defensive record having only conceded 9 goals in 34 league games. But do the underlying numbers suggest this is unsustainable? Are Burnley fans in support of what Scott Parker is trying to do? Meanwhile Luton are 3rd from bottom and would have been 24th if not for Saturday's win against Portsmouth. It was a first win in 9 for new manager Matt Bloomfield who replaced Rob Edwards in January. Why has it gone so wrong for The Hatters? There's an overview of both the relegation and promotion race and discussion on the increasing difficult task of getting into the Premier League and staying there.# Follow Jack on Twitter/x: https://x.com/TurfyTopper Follow Dan on Twitter/x: https://x.com/danlukeashby Tomorrow on Planet FPL: Planet FPL s8 ep39, Chips & The Assmen vol,3. With the European Cup approaching its 50th anniversary, there were still some members of the footballing aristocracy who were aching to join the ranks of champions. Juventus were Italy's team but still lagged behind the Milanese giants when it came to continental dominance. In their way in 1983 was an ambitious German club with a sharp general manager, a wily old coach and a superbly balanced side who wanted it for themselves. Rob and Martyn tell the story of their triumph, Juve's neuroses and another enjoyable campaign as a whole. Jimbo’s got Julien Laurens, Seb Stafford-Bloor, Rory Smith and Pol Ballús alongside him for all the latest continental chatter. Friday afternoon’s Champions League draw presented some fascinating match-ups including Real v Atleti, Bayern v Bayer and PSG v Liverpool. We’ve got a closer look at all those ties with the round of 16 looming… In La Liga, it was a rare weekend where all three title challengers registered three fairly comfortable wins! It leaves Barca and Real locked on 54 points at the top, with Atleti just a point behind. Over in France there was plenty of drama on and off the pitch - with cowboy hats, calls of corruption and meltdowns caught on CCTV. But away from all that, the table shows that PSG have extended their lead at the top to 13 points after their 3-2 victory at Lyon. Speaking of corruption - Slovenian ref Slavko Vincic was parachuted in to referee the Istanbul derby after a season marred by controversial officiating and allegations of foulplay. It was a rather eventful evening as Galatasaray said they would "initiate criminal proceedings" against Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho after claiming he made "racist statements" following the teams' 0-0 draw. For a closer look at Serie A we’re joined by Sky Italia’s Filippo Benincampi - as Cesc’s Como got the better of Conte’s Napoli to cost them top spot, Inter taking full advantage with their 1-0 win over Genoa. And in the Bundesliga, there were finally signs of life for Dortmund as Niko Kovac picked up his first league win courtesy of a four-goal haul from Serhou Guirassy, aided by super sub and Chelsea loanee Carney Chukwuemeka. Produced by Lucy Oliva. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: Moments of the weekend and Champions League round of 16 teases (00.40) • PART 2: La Liga review - the big three all win while Antony sees red (07.15) • PART 3: Ligue 1 review - chaos off and on the pitch for Lyon v PSG and Auxerre v Marseille (19.00) • PART 4: Galatasaray 0-0 Fenerbahce fallout (35.00) • PART 5: Serie A review - Napoli feel the pressure, plus could Gasperini and Atalanta’s love affair be coming to an end? (43.25) • PART 5: Bundesliga review - Dortmund finally show signs of life with Bayer v Bayern on the horizon (57.00) Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Bruce Arena’s debut with San Jose was also unforgettable, topping Salt Lake 4-0. Additionally, Alexi breaks down the infamous playing out of the back and giveaway goals we continued to see this weekend. Over in Europe, Josh Sargent remained unstoppable in the Championship. He earned a brace against Stoke City and recorded his 20th goal at home in 23 matches. AC Milan’s struggles continued in Serie A as Christian Pulisic missed his first career penalty kick. To cap off the weekend, the guys discussed the USWNT’s SheBelieves performance and back-to-back wins among many international debuts. (6:30) To wrap the show, Alexi and Mosse chat about MLS expansion options, two-tiered pro/rel system or east and west split divisions. Rob Jones is joined by The Mirror's Darren Lewis and the Daily Telegraph’s Sam Dean to reflect on the weekend’s sporting action. We start by talking about Arsenal, and Sam believes the fans have lost hope in their title bid, and that Merino as a false nine was unsustainable. Darren argues that the defining moment in Arsenal’s season was a failure to sign a striker in the January window. Next to Manchester United, after their 2-2 draw at Goodison; Sam suggests Everton should have had a penalty in the final moments, as the referee wasn’t shown the most incriminating angles and the incident wasn’t ‘clear and obvious’ to be overruled. Meanwhile, United’s rivals Liverpool look for their twentieth league title and Jamie Redknapp sits down with Arne Slot to talk about the challenge of competing in both the Premier League and Champions League, and the surprise of City's fall. And finally, Sam criticises Chelsea’s model, and after a third loss in four Premier league games yesterday at Villa Park, Darren questions the level of Chelsea’s two available goalkeepers. The Soccer Sharps' excellent run in the Champions League came crashing to a halt this week. The Sharps lost all of their Champions League bets. They did keep up their good form in the Europa League, though, and the cappers are hopeful that bad fortune in the midweek means good fortune is ahead at the weekend. Devin and Jordan love a bounce-back episode, and that's what they're hoping to deliver here. The brothers break down four EPL matches and one Bundesliga clash, before closing out with 4 Official Plays. Matches discussed: Manchester City v Liverpool Everton v Manchester Utd Brighton v Southampton Bournemouth v Wolves Bayern Munich v Eintracht Frankfurt Prices given are the best available at the time of recording. In the domestic leagues of European soccer, it was yet another disappointing weekend for The Soccer Sharps, as they went 2-3 with their Official Plays. Devin and Jordan discuss four Champs League matches and one Europa League match, giving out an Official Play for each. On a night Man City had no margin for error, Kylian Mbappe took away any hope scoring his first hat-trick at the Bernabeu for Real Madrid. With his treble, the Frenchman became just the fourth player to score a Champions League knockout hat-trick for Madrid following in the footsteps of the likes of Ronaldo Nazario, Karim Benzema and of course Cristiano Ronaldo. So can Mbappe reach Cristano Ronaldo's levels at Real Madrid? Ayo Akinwolere is joined by The Athletic's Real Madrid writer Guillermo Rai and Tomas Hill Lopez-Menchero to analyse the win over Man City and how fair Carlo Ancelotti's side can go in this season's Champions League. Plus, French football writer Tom Williams drops by to discuss Mbappe's evolution and his use of speed through his career. Liverpool draw 2-2 on a Wednesday night again, this time at Villa Park. James Pearce reviews that game and looks ahead to a game with previously the Reds’ fiercest rivals for silverware. Elsewhere in the Champions League, it was a disastrous week for Serie A with four Italian clubs in the competition becoming just one and some generational head losses.
