In today’s episode, Claire runs down the USWNT’s October roster, alongside quotes from Emma Hayes that appear to lay out the vision for the next few years in the team’s progress as they begin the long preparation for the 2027 World Cup. She also marvels at another incredible WNBA Finals showdown, as the Liberty take a crucial advantage in their search for their first championship title.
Clayton and James discuss the England reign of Fabio Capello, that began after England had failed to qualify for The European Championship and ended four years later after a successful campaign to qualify for the same tournament. The end came after Capello's captain had been stripped by the FA of the captaincy for off the field misdemeanors, which came a couple of years after Capello had stripped the same player, John Terry, for other off field problems. Those issues with Terry feature in the conversation and there's coverage of the highs and lows on the field as England sought revenge against Croatia in their attempts to qualify for the 2010 World Cup before being humbled miserably by Germany in the Last 16. It's the Monday Review. Vince, Watke and Belz talk through the latest on the coaching search, why it seems so difficult for USSF to find a good MNT coach, why it's been possible for global men's basketball to close the gap with American basketball faster than American men's soccer has been able to close the gap with global men's soccer, Tyler Adams' comments about what's needed from a new coach, the Championship and Eredivisie kick off and Belz gets to talk about Ledezma, plus much more.
Aaron Lagor joins James to discuss all things Leicester City and their FPL assets ahead of their Monday night Gameweek opener against James' Tottenham. But despite being the Championship Champions they currently don't feel as strong as they did when achieving promotion. Why? Manager Enzo Maresca and key player Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall have departed for Chelsea. Former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper is Maresca's replacement and there's a detailed debate on what may be different under the new manager. For FPL club legend Jamie Vardy may still lead the line, while wide men Abdul Fatawu and Stephy Mavididi are also 5.5. Should any of the trio appeal for investment? And there are enablers to consider with Wout Faes (4.0) and Harry Winks (4.5) both well owned. But you may listen to this Podcast and want to have a second look at Tottenham assets and The Foxes also look set for a points deduction. Rog sits down with Chelsea's newly appointed manager Enzo Maresca to discuss what he learned from Pep Guardiola while as an assistant at Manchester City, how he led Leicester City from relegation to top of the Championship table last year, and the changes he plans to make to take Chelsea to the next level this season. See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
It's a Correspondent Week debut for Ipswich Town and Paul Gaught-Allen, who joins James to discuss everything about last season's Championship runners-up, including Kieran McKenna's crucial decision to stay as manager and whether surviving this season is a realistic aim following back to back promotions. Paul details what we can expect from McKenna tactically and that includes an advanced role for 4.5 left-back Leif Davis who notched a record number of Championship assists for a defender last season. But with every other Town defender priced at 4.0 is Davis worth the extra? And who's best from those 4.0s? Omari Hutchinson has signed on a permanent deal from Chelsea and has interest at 5.5, but there may be other attacking talents that appeal more from within the club. There's an outline of the current anticipated starting eleven and where the club is likely to invest further in the team and squad plus there's discussion on FPL's two most expensive players, Mo Salah and Erling Haaland, who are set to play The Tractor Boys in the first two Gameweeks. Canada 4th at Copa America; Copa chaos; Whitecaps win on the road in the league and cup
Clayton and James discuss what we know so far as we await the imminent official launch of Fantasy Premier League 2024/25. Many player prices are already known; what's the thoughts on Erling Haaland being priced at £15.0m? It's the highest ever price for an FPL asset. Cole Palmer has been given the highest ever increase in price coming in at 10.5 but will remain a popular option. There's a run through of the player prices known so far, running from the premiums down to the budget enablers, discussing the players that stand out at each price point, which includes the one player James is very confident that he'll start with subject to fitness. There's notes on some early fixture swings and caution is given on those returning from the European Championship. Suj and James reflect on last night's European Championship Final that ended in a deserved triumph for Spain and defeat for England. Should Gareth Southgate stand down as manager? Has he earned the right to make that decision himself? Plus, looking ahead, some big decisions need to be made about some of the personnel on the way towards 2026 in the search to become a better 'team'.
