Jimmy Conrad, Charlie Davies, and Tony Meola react to the bombshell news that Matt Crocker is leaving his role as U.S. Soccer's sporting director with immediate effect - right before the start of a home World Cup - to take a similar position with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation. The crew discuss the strange timing, potential candidates to fill the role, and the bad optics ahead of a pivotal time for the USMNT. In brighter news, Folarin Balogun can't stop scoring in Ligue 1. With the Monaco striker on a seven-game hot streak, what can Pochettino do to better unlock him? Plus, teenagers are tearing up MLS, and the presumptive big boys enter the U.S. Open Cup at the Round of 32 stage! Jimbo is once again alongside Seb Stafford-Bloor, Pol Ballus, James Horncastle and Tom Williams to discuss all things European football. Barcelona beat local rivals Espanyol 4-1 to go nine points clear at the top of La Liga after Real Madrid stumble to a 1-1 draw with Girona. How might all this affect this week’s Champions League Quarter Final second legs? There’s no game to impact PSG, as they’re given the weekend off in France to focus on beating Liverpool. No such let-off for Monaco, who are hammered 4-1 by PSG’s neighbours Paris FC. In Germany, Bayern set a single-season scoring record with an emphatic 5-0 win at St Pauli, and Union Berlin's Marie-Louise Eta becomes the first woman to manage a Bundesliga side. And in Italy, it’s goals galore between Como and Inter, with the league leaders winning 4-3 to stretch their lead over second placed Napoli to nine points. Plus, there’s a public clash between Claudio Ranieri and Gian Piero Gasperini. Produced by Charlie Jones and Xavi Bird. Welcome back to It Was What It Was. In today's episode, co-hosts Rob Draper and Jonathan Wilson continue Graham Taylor’s England story as the 1994 World Cup qualifying begins to wobble, with Paul Gascoigne’s talent and volatility dominating the narrative. They examine how Taylor’s pragmatic, direct style—shaped by lower-league realities and later linked (often unfairly) to FA long-ball doctrine—collided with more technical European approaches, and how internal battles involving Charles Hughes and data pioneer Charles Reap poisoned the backdrop. England’s campaign lurches through a Norway draw at Wembley after a late stunner, a Gascoigne-inspired win over Turkey, and a damaging 2–2 draw with the Netherlands featuring an undetected elbow and a late penalty. With Gascoigne returning in a mask, England then stumble in a hostile Poland away match and escape with a late equaliser, before Taylor’s brutal “headless chickens” verdict leaves his team heading to Oslo under growing pressure. 00:24 Setting the Scene 03:08 Taylor’s Pragmatic Roots 06:50 Pressing vs Possession 10:04 Charles Hughes and the Winning Formula 13:55 Reap vs Hughes Fallout 19:31 Norway’s Long Ball Irony 21:59 Back to Qualifying Hopes 24:10 Gazza’s Norway Controversy 26:50 Taylor’s Gaza Dilemma 28:22 Norway Opener Heartbreak 30:53 Turkey Win and Dependence 32:53 Too Honest With Press 40:12 Dutch Clash at Wembley 44:13 Mask Return and Mania 45:52 Poland Chaos and Critique 49:03 Headless Chickens Finale Hosted on Acast. Real Madrid were booed off at the Bernabéu on Friday night, and not for the first time this season, after they failed to beat Girona in a 1-1 draw. Gary and Alex look at what this latest setback means for Alvaro Arbeloa's chances of remaining in charge next season, and whether they have any hope of going to Munich and overturning the 2-1 deficit against Bayern. Barcelona went nine points clear at the top after a 4-1 win over Espanyol, with Hansi Flick taking no chances and playing Lamine Yamal and Pedri for 90 minutes despite the Champions League second leg with Atletico Madrid to come in the week. Will Barca have enough firepower to score the three they need or will that leaky defence prove costly in the Metropolitano? Agyemang’s pain may be someone else’s gain. On Unfiltered Soccer with Landon Donovan and Tim Howard, we're sharing our thoughts on the unfortunate news of Patrick Agyemang’s season ending Achilles injury and how it could potentially impact the USMNT’s roster for the World Cup. Will strikers like Josh Sargent or Brian White get a look? Could a wildcard like Zavier Gozo break through? Is Diego Luna’s spot now set in stone? Tim and Landon break it all down. Plus, we may be less than 10 matches into MLS’ season, but that’s not too soon for Montreal to make a move at coach. Was Marco Donadel really the problem or do the club’s issues run deeper than that? And what’s to be made of Son Heung-min's quiet goalscoring season? While some may be scratching their heads, Landon explains why it’s a whole lot of nothing! Finally, in the AT&T Mailbag, we're talking Lincoln City’s guaranteed promotion, Tottenham’s potential relegation and the U.S. Men’s “A squad” vs the U.S. Men’s “B squad.” New episodes of Unfiltered Soccer with Landon and Tim drop every Tuesday. An in-depth show about the U.S. men's national soccer team, the players who could one day make it better, and American soccer in general.

Steve Crossman hosts this week's Monday Night Club alongside Chris Sutton, Rory Smith and Nedum Onuoha. With a game in hand and six points to make up, can Manchester City catch Arsenal? The team discuss the role that mentality plays in a title race, how fan nervousness might be affecting Arsenal on the pitch, and what Arteta's side seem to be lacking from open-play. Is it fair to say Arsenal are 'bottling' it? On the other hand, a free-flowing Manchester City are relishing the chase, and with Arsenal visiting the Etihad this Sunday, could that result prove to be a decider? Then, the panel react to Spurs losing their first match under new head coach, Roberto De Zerbi. With Tottenham now in the relegation zone for the first time since 2015, and two points from safety, can "big brother" De Zerbi save the club? Timecodes: 01:12 Is it fair to say that Arsenal are 'bottling' it? 12:13 Do Arsenal really have a style-of-play problem? 20:24 Arsenal a "masterpiece of coaching", but is it time now for psychology? 28:17 Are the fans affecting the players, & should they have booed the team off? 37:07 A first loss for "big brother" De Zerbi as Spurs manager; can he save them?

Musa and Ryan begin with Union Berlin appointing Marie-Louise Eta as interim head coach of their men’s team until the end of the season (02:46). Eta becomes the first woman to take charge of a men’s team in Europe’s top five leagues, but is no stranger to the Union dugout, having already been a trailblazer for many years already. So, they chat about why the appointment makes so much sense and how it could pave the way for other clubs to do the same in the future. They then move onto the Premier League title race (15:05), after a weekend where Manchester City closed the gap on Arsenal, following the Gunners’ home defeat to Bournemouth and City’s win away at Chelsea. And not to say Ryan’s taking it badly, but he did volunteer to go to the moon and has talked about starting a golf podcast. Down the other end of the table, it got worse for Spurs, as they slipped into the relegation zone on Friday night, thanks to West Ham’s impressive win over Wolves, and stayed their following their own defeat to Sunderland. Don't forget to check out Musa's piece for the Kickback Soccer newsletter here.
