And with West Ham also winning at Fulham, where does this leave the relegation battle? The race for Champions League football is hotting right up with 3rd to 6th separated by 3 points. What's wrong with Aston Villa?

At the end of January Aston Villa were level on points with Man City seven points off league leaders Arsenal. One win in six has left them clinging onto a place in the top four as they aim to secure Champions League qualification for next season. So, are the wheels falling off for Unai Emery’s side? FOOTBALL DAILY: 'They make their own rules... ' Hurzeler on Arsenal's rugby-fication, Carrick suffers Newcastle loss, and Parrott into another Dutch Cup final

On Thursday's Football Daily, Phil Egan brings news from last night's Premier League action and Celtic keep their title challenge on track, whilst Troy Parrott is into another Dutch Cup final. Arsenal move seven points clear at the top of the Premier League after a narrow 1–0 win away to Brighton, with the result sparking debate about their game management and time-wasting tactics. Mikel Arteta defends his side’s approach in the title race after criticism from Brighton boss Fabian Hürzeler. Brighton’s frustration grows as Opta stats show Arsenal took over 30 minutes of restart time, prompting Hürzeler to claim only one team tried to play football. Bukayo Saka marks his 300th Arsenal appearance in style, scoring the decisive goal as Arteta praises the England international’s importance to the team. Manchester City drop points in a dramatic 2–2 draw with Nottingham Forest, leaving Pep Guardiola’s side seven points off the pace. Manchester United suffer their first defeat under Michael Carrick, losing 2–1 at Newcastle despite playing against ten men for the entire second half. João Pedro hits a hat-trick as Chelsea beat Aston Villa 4–1, with Liam Rosenior praising the Brazilian striker’s form this season. West Ham boost their survival hopes with a 1–0 win at Fulham, thanks to another crucial goal from in-form winger Crysencio Summerville. Tottenham boss Igor Tudor dismisses relegation talk ahead of Spurs’ crucial clash with Crystal Palace, while Palace manager Oliver Glasner backs Brennan Johnson to shine against his former club. Elsewhere, Celtic stay in the Scottish title hunt, while Ireland striker Troy Parrott helps AZ Alkmaar reach the Dutch Cup final ahead of the upcoming international break. Dead End Road | Planet FPL S. 9 Ep. 43 | GW29 Review | Fantasy Premier League

Suj and James discuss all the key action from Gameweek 29's first 9 games, where bench points have been required by many FPL managers again, and it was a great night for Arsenal as they won at Brighton as Manchester City slipped up at home to Nottingham Forest, and there was a win for West Ham too which means it's very squeaky at the bottom. Chelsea were the only winners of those seeking a top 5 spot and Joao Pedro hauled big with a hat-trick and an assist in victory at an Aston Villa side that are currently struggling. All the key FPL fallout discussed with updates from midweek injuries, rotations, haulers and blankers. But with a clear message, there is much to learn before we get to Gameweek 30. Aston Villa v Leeds | CotC with Lee Jackson & Ed Salinger | Planet FPL 2025/26

James welcomes Aston Villa fan Lee Jackson and Leeds United fan Ed Salinger on to Clash of the Correspondents ahead of the meeting between the two clubs at Villa Park on Saturday. The title may look beyond Villa, but there's still plenty to play for as they try and hold on to a Champions League qualification spot and they will fancy their chances of going deep in the Europa League too. While for Leeds, despite sitting 15th and only 6 points above West Ham, the general consensus seems to be that they'll be fine after sustained period of positive results and performances. All the key FPL assets covered including defensive assets from both, Morgan Rogers, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. And there's plenty of reason to be interested in their assets, Villa have Wolves after Leeds and Leeds themselves have a great run beginning from GW29. Infact, from now until the end of the season, Villa and Leeds sit as the top two on James' fuxture difficulty ticker! Man City stage incredible comeback at Anfield to keep title race alive

Jimbo has Daniel Storey, Tim Spiers and Reuben Pinder for company after an action-packed Matchday 25 in the Premier League. Man City looked to be crashing out of the title race thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai’s outrageous free-kick. But late goals from Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland keep the gap to leaders Arsenal at 6 points. What was going on with City’s disallowed 3rd goal? And what’s going on with Liverpool who stay 6th? Man United make it 4 wins out of 4 under Michael Carrick with a 2-0 win against Spurs, for whom Cristian Romero receives the 6th red card of his Tottenham career. It was a great weekend for West Ham at the bottom who beat Burnley while Nottingham Forest were taken apart at Leeds, halving the gap between Forest and the Hammers. Palmer strikes back with a hat-trick at Molineux, Gyokeres is in the goals against Sunderland and could Brentford or Everton qualify for Europe? And what are flat-tracks and why is it called football? Window Closed | The Transfer Window Show | Planet FPL 2025/26

The January Transfer Window has closed and it was as was suspected quite quiet on the transfer front, perhaps even quieter than expected. David and James discuss why and how Crystal Palace kept the drama going on the day with a confirmed move for Jorgen Stand Larsen from Wolves but a propsed move for Dwight McNeil fell through, perhaps that was also in part down to Jean-Philippe Mateta's move to Crystal Palace falling through. All the deadline and recent done deals discussed, featuring discussion on Aston Villa, Chelsea, Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Wolves and more.
