Suj and James review the weekend of Gameweek 28 where there was more heartbreak for those who gambled on Cole Palmer again as the Chelsea talisman missed his first penalty of his professional career, whilst Mo Salah converted two penalties of his own to break the FPL points scoring record despite still having nine games to play! But FPL managers won't be captaining Salah this week with Liverpool among four teams who blank this week and much of the focus of the Podcast is towards decision making for the Blank coming up, and for some that may mean even selling Salah to fund a move for Erling Haaland. But is Haaland even the best captain this week!? City were being beaten again, this time at Nottingham Forest and Chris Wood may even be the EO play this week as Nuno's Champions League chasing team travel to Ipswich. All the games reviewed, including discussion on Arsenal's draw at Manchester United which surely means the title is heading to Anfield; Bournemouth's outstanding showing at White Hart Lane only earned them a point; while Aston Villa and Brighton also kept themselves in contention for a top 5 finish; and Wolves without Matheus Cunha also edged a point closer to safety Tomorrow on Planet FPL: Clash of the Correspondents, Bournemouth v Brentford with Neil Grover and Tom Medd Today on Patreon: The Q'N'A (IT+) and Nico's Corner (AT) For the full Planet FPL schedule this week, including our offering on Patreon view this post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/schedule-march-124031506 Want to become a member of our FPL community and support the Podcast? On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Wolves fan Bradley Parker and Everton fan Sean Norton to discuss the latest at their clubs and FPL interest in some of their assets ahead of the Saturday night meeting at Molineux. Matheus Cunha was going to be all the rage for FPL managers but now those who may have been ahead of the curve must sell with the Brazilian talisman set for a lengthy suspension. Could the returning Jorgen Strand Larsen offer a solution for FPL managers? Or might the best replacement be with opponents Everton with forward Beto and The Toffees finding form under David Moyes, They are well clear of danger now, but that Cunha suspension may have Wolves fans looking nervously over their shoulders again. Plus, views on defensive assets from both clubs and is there anything from the midfield bracket that FPL managers can consider? Jimbo has Daniel Storey, Duncan Alexander and Matt Davies-Adams for company after an FA Cup 5th round weekend that has a bit of everything. Holders Man United are knocked out on penalties at Old Trafford as their deficiencies are laid bare again. But for Fulham, could Marco Silva be about to earn some tangible reward for the phenomenal job he’s done? Earlier on Sunday, Brighton are victorious at Newcastle after extra-time. It’s a truly costly afternoon for the Magpies as they lose Anthony Gordon and perhaps more players ahead of the Carabao Cup final. Palace progress past Millwall but all the talk is dominated by the horror challenge on striker Jean-Philippe Mateta. Similarly, Bournemouth’s win over Wolves sees plenty of discussion about the 8 minute VAR delay and the extent to which Matheus Cunha has just let Wolves down. Plus Lampard’s Sky Blues, and IFAB’s new law on goalkeeper time-wasting. Produced by Charlie Jones. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: Fulham beat Man Utd on penalties, with Carl Anka and Elizabeth Barnard (06.00) • PART 2a: Newcastle 1-2 Brighton (16.00) • PART 2b: Crystal Palace 3-1 Millwall (23.00) • PART 2c: Wins for Villa and Preston (27.00) • PART 3a: Bournemouth beat Wolves on penalties (32.00) • PART 3b: Man City 3-1 Plymouth (40.00) • PART 3c: Lampard and Birmingham on fire in the EFL (45.00) • PART 3d: IFAB’s new 8 second rule (50.00) Hosted on Acast. Wolves forward Matheus Cunha welcomes Kelly Somers to the club for a sit-down, where he talks about life in the Premier League, battling relegation and his aspirations on the international scene with Brazil.
A very different Clash of the Correspondents this week, as rather than discussing an upcoming fixture James is joined by Wolves fan Bradley Parker and Aston Villa fan Lee Jackson to discuss their clubs following Wolves' 2-0 victory against Villa at Molineux at the weekend. It was a big win for Wolves, particularly following defeats earlier in the day for Ipswich and Leicester; but for Villa it was another disappointing result after a Champions League games which dents their hopes of trying to qualify again foe Europe's top competition. There's also Fantasy discussion with Wolves looking at a brilliant fixture swing in the near future en route to Blank Gameweek 29 and Villa could have a Double Gameweek in the forthcoming Gameweek 25. There's discussion on defensive assets and the likes of Matheus Cunha, Morean Rogers and Ollie Watkins. And there's also coverage of a busy transfer window for both clubs which included Villa making some high profile signings such as Marcus Rashford and Wolves strengthening their backline. Suj and James review another dramatic weekend of Premier League football and all the important FPL discussions as several popular assets delivered the goods again with Mo Salah, Bukayo Saka, Matheus Cunha and Joao Pedro all returning well. But there will be some who struggled and the swing against for Erling Haaland owners is a tough one to take. Is it time to call it quits on FPL's highest priced player? Haaland's latest blank came in an astonishing result at The Etihad as Tottenham won 4-0, much to James' delight; and there were also comfortable victories for Arsenal and Wolves whilst Liverpool made hard work of beating Southampton and we saw Ruben Amorim's debut as Manchester United manager end in a draw at Ipswich. Plus, James has gone early on his GW13 transfer, but it means a hit could follow...
