Jimbo is joined by Daniel Storey, Adrian Clarke and Lynsey Hooper to reflect on a feast of festive football in the Premier League. Arsenal kept their title-challenging form going by beating West Ham in front of a returning Arsène Wenger. Newcastle United also carried on their ominous pre-World Cup form by swatting aside Leicester City. Yorkshireman Erling Haaland returned to his place of birth. His two goals for Manchester City against Leeds United saw him become the fastest player to reach twenty goals in the Premier League. Plus Chelsea and Manchester United picked up wins as they try and regain some lost ground after stuttering starts. At the bottom, there’s disagreement over the prospects for Nathan Jones at Southampton. But there’s consensus that Everton are in troubling form; the sort that may not see Frank Lampard’s time in the Goodison dugout last much longer. Produced by Steve Hankey RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: Arsenal beat West Ham (03.00) • PART 2: Newcastle beat Leicester (12:30) • PART 3: Haaland hauling Leeds over hot coals and footballer’s weight (19:30) • PART 4a: Wolves with two wins under Lopetegui (25.30) • PART 4b: Everton are in trouble (30:00) • PART 4c: Man Utd beat Forest (32:30) • PART 5a: Liverpool lure Cody Gakpo (38:00) • PART 5b:Brentford’s draw with Spurs, but how will they manage without Toney? With the World Cup now in the rear view mirror, can Arsenal hang on to top spot domestically without Gabriel Jesus? Can Miguel Almiron maintain his electrifying form? And can the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool force their way into the top 4? At the other end of the table, is there more mutiny around the corner at Everton? Plus we get an update on the state of Jadon Sancho and get to know Nathan Jones and Nottingham Forest’s skateboarding new signing. Produced by Charlie Jones. Jimbo, Sasha Goryunov and Duncan Alexander gather to summarise Day 9 of the World Cup. We had two contenders for game of the tournament on the same day! Cameroon took the lead against Serbia but the Serbs scored three in succession to lead 3-1 only for Cameroon to drag it back to 3-3. The result probably means both sides are out but Vincent Aboubakar did score a lovely lob. Ghana looked like they were sailing to victory with a 2-0 lead over South Korea heading into half time. Then two goals in three second half minutes saw South Korea level before Mohammed Kudus scored his second, Ghana’s third, and secure what could be a massive three points in Group H. Massive because Portugal’s win over Uruguay sees the Portuguese qualify and leaves Ghana in pole position to follow them through. England and USA battle to a goalless draw as The Athletic’s Paul Tenorio once again rues missed opportunities for the US. And why can’t Gareth Southgate find room for Phil Foden? The early game between Wales and Iran highlights the agony of sporting defeat, the ecstasy of sporting victory and as Omid outlines, the grief surrounding what’s happening back home in Iran. But can progress to the last 16 help highlight Iran’s troubles to the world? Elsewhere, Qatar are the earliest exiting hosts ever as Enter Valencia continues to rack up the stats for Ecuador. The German players showed that a protest is actually possible at this World Cup with hands over their mouths and rainbows on their laces. Spain smacked Costa Rica for seven. Is this just a lovely day out for La Roja or the start of something more? Canada somehow lost to a Belgium side that have aged… And we look ahead to Thursday’s action as Jose Delgado talks to us about the prospects for Portugal against Ghana. Produced by Steve Hankey.
