Stagnant Real Madrid Bailed Out By Mbappe Again

Real Madrid kept up their pursuit of league leaders Barcelona but only just, needing a 100th minute penalty from Kylian Mbappe to spare their blushes at home to Rayo Vallecano, in a match which saw Vinicius Jr booed despite scoring a worldie and Jude Bellingham leaving the pitch in tears clutching his hamstring. Gary and Alex look at why the atmosphere continues to be so fractious at the Bernabeu. Barcelona kept themselves ahead of the rest with a 3-1 away at Elche in a game in which they spurned plenty of chances to make the scoreline even greater, goals from Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres and Marcus Rashford were enough for the three points. With the league being so tight and the knock-out stages of the Champions League upon us who do Gary and Alex think has the squad capable of winning it all this season? There’s also been more grumbling at Atletico Madrid as they struggled to a 0-0 draw at Levante, leaving Diego Simeone calling for reinforcements in the transfer window, but after fifteen years in charge have the fans decided it’s time for a change? This is: QK Reloaded. We'll be playing through our original episodes in release order. And this is... Tom Craine reviewing a Chester City legend in an episode first broadcast on 3rd December 2018. --- Back in the studio this week is Quickly Kevin regular Tom Craine as we take a look at Terry Smith's failed spell at Chester City in the late 90s. Deploying such tactics as 'regular 442 rules', appointing "three captains" and passing on half time advice such as "they keep putting it in the hole"; Terry (an American who came to the English football league via the NFL) had been accused of not knowing much about football. We took to a Chester City documentary to discover the truth. There's also an update on Man Utd's away hotel room pairings and an amazing new Eddie McGoldrick chant. Set-Piece Again | Chaos at the Bridge | Excellent Ekitike

Dharmesh Sheth is joined by Jacqui Oatley, Riath Al-Samarrai and Martin Samuel to reflect on the weekend’s sporting action. We open with Arsenal’s 4–0 win at Elland Road, stretching their lead at the top to seven points as Arteta’s side punished Leeds united with ruthless set-piece execution. We then head to a chaotic night at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea were booed off at half-time with West Ham two goals to the good. Liam Rosenior’s side mounted an impressive second-half comeback to win 3–2, but Riath asks: do you applaud a man for cleaning up his own mess? Next, we’re joined by Adam Collins to unpack the news that England cricketer Harry Brook lied about his altercation with a bouncer in a Wellington nightclub last year, now admitting he claimed to be alone in order to protect teammates. Finally, we break down Liverpool’s 4–1 Anfield win over Newcastle, as Florian Wirtz impressed and Hugo Ekitike haunted his long-term admirers with a ruthless first-half double.
