Harry Kane gets the job done, no offence to Luxembourg, and Pep's two-floor tactics prison

Poland’s guard of honour is all but a formality. Marcus, Jim and Vish unpeel themselves from the ceiling after England’s latest drubbing. Mason Mount continues his rise from teacher’s pet to England mainstay, while Harry Kane’s bloodlust is as strong as ever. We also check in with our Junior Brave Boys, who continue to flourish under Aidy Boothroyd's dazzling brand of football. But it can always be worse: just ask Ireland. We discuss Stephen Kenny’s nigh-on-impossible task of filling the inimitable big Mick’s big shoes. There’s also oversized goalposts in Switzerland, disappearing refs, and Pep Guardiola staring at Ilkay Gundogan while he sleeps. All in a day’s work. Incredibly haunted

Jimbo welcomes Daniel Storey, Sasha Goryunov and Charlie Eccleshare into the pod after another epic international weekend. The headlines are dominated by Republic of Ireland’s shock defeat at home to Luxembourg in World Cup qualifying. Ken Early tells us why it’s delusional for the Irish to believe this is their worst ever result. 10 marks out of 10 for England so far as they swat aside San Marino and Albania. Should England build the team around Harry Kane when it comes to constructing their midfield? And who’s been the big winner of Euro 2020 being delayed by a year? Meanwhile Aidy Boothroyd’s Under 21s would settle for a shot on target. Why do so many big nations not have a style or system at Under 21 level? And Daniel takes on Sasha in another intriguing encounter in the Inter Totally Cup. Plus Dzyuba, Derby and football’s finest statues. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1a: Republic of Ireland 0-1 Luxembourg with Ken Early (03m 30s) • PART 1b: Worst moment following your nation? Podcast: Galaxy attempting to turn an incomplete into something competitive

COG STUDIOS, Calif. -- The LA Galaxy are getting ready for their preseason to ramp up. They've got a handful of games lined up, and this Saturday, we'll finally get a good look at what they might look like when Spectrum SportsNet broadcasts their match against the New England Revolution. On today's show, hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter want to get you ready for this week of training and what hurdles the Galaxy still have to clear. The guys will start by attempting to learn something from the two 60-minute scrimmages the club held against USL side San Diego Loyal. But with a starting lineup devoid of, well, starters, there is probably a reasoning Greg Vanney kept most of the big names off the field. But what does it say that Mauricio Cuevas and Auggie Williams keep making an impact on the first team with the minutes they're getting? Josh and Kevin will also talk about the four players away on International Duty and what that means for the Galaxy as they already face some severe shortages on the roster. But this week is the week to see Sebastian Lletget, Jonathan dos Santos, and Efrain Alvarez play for the senior national teams, and you might even get Julian Araujo in one of the biggest matches of his young career. With the roster showing many holes in the preseason scrimmage, what are the Galaxy doing about it? And how optimistic are Josh and Kevin when it comes to the job the Galaxy have done? Where are the upgrades to the team from last year? There's some roster judgment going on, and the Galaxy aren't getting a passing grade -- not yet, anyway. Finally, the guys discuss how a 90-mile circle will make your preseason game watching a lot more difficult thanks to some stupid MLS rules, and how a rumor out of France has the Galaxy dipping their toes into the under-22 rule. Is this the change that could bring some exciting development money into the league? It's a packed show for a Monday night, and we're glad you could join us! - SUBSCRIBE TO OUR PODCAST: http://cornerofthegalaxy.com/subscribe/ - COG LA GALAXY DISCORD: https://discord.gg/drr9HFZY2P - COG MERCHANDISE (SCARVES, T-SHIRTS, BUTTONS, COASTERS): http://www.cornerofthegalaxy.com/SHOP

A lively spot

Jimbo welcomes Daniel Storey, David Preece and Dion Fanning after a weekend of pivotal league and cup action. Leicester progress to the FA Cup semi-finals with victory over Manchester United. Are the Foxes set to avoid another late season collapse? Why hasn’t it worked out for van de Beek at United? And should they nab Ndidi? Or Yves Bissouma? Will Man City do the quadruple? Are they depressingly good? In the Premier League, Arsenal come back from 3-0 down in garbage time to peg back a Lingard-inspired West Ham and take a point. But do the Gunners have an Aubameyang problem? Tottenham bounce back from their Europa League exit in Zagreb with Hugo Lloris’s blistering post-match interview ringing in their ears. And Brighton and Newcastle are heading in different directions. Plus Peter Lorimer, England’s number 1 and when will Republic of Ireland score again? Gary Neville says Manchester City put on a Floyd Mayweather-type performance in their 1-0 win over Arsenal by keeping the Gunners at arm’s length despite not being on top form. Neville is also not surprised by Liverpool’s recent poor results, and the former Manchester United and England man says they need some fresh ideas and changes in tactics to protect their injury-hit defensive positions. S4 Ep7: Kevin Keegan's England - Part 2

In Part Two, Keegan goes into full Keegan mode, with the smiles broad as England take a 2-0 lead against Portugal in their first group match. The panel reflect on why David Beckham was right in his belief that it was a precarious lead as Portugal eventually cruised to an easier victory than the 2-3 scoreline suggests. After a 1-0 win over a ponderous Germany in which Keegan’s lack of tactical nous mattered less than his ability to motivate players, the epic drama concludes with the tragicomic defeat to Romania, Phil Neville’s impetuous late foul and the subsequent penalty leaving England, with Fowler, Owen and Scholes looking on from the bench, needing a goal that doesn’t come.In the epilogue, a miserable farewell to the miserable old Wembley Stadium sees Didi Hamann skid in a long-range winner and Keegan resign in the toilets, some players in tears and Keegan himself writing his obituary as an England manager - "I'm not up to it”. He may not have been, but Rob, Lee and Gary, with the perspective of 20 years, find that there’s much to commend about the lad from Doncaster whose heart was always to be found just below the T-shirt line we hear so much about these days. S4 Ep6: Kevin Keegan's England - Part 1

Kevin Keegan - England manager? What a loser!Lee, Rob and Gary unwrap that reductive statement and conclude that while Joseph Kevin Keegan may have lost, he was no loser. In Part One, the initial focus is on the optimism that beamed out of little KK, striding out at Wembley in the sunshine, basking in the love of a capacity crowd, Poland seen off in a Euro 2000 qualifier, a Paul Scholes hat-trick the high for both player and manager in an England shirt / blazer. After an examination of the curious relationship between Keegan and Michael Owen, the remainder of England’s qualifying campaign is tracked through to its conclusion in a nervy 0-1 home loss to Scotland after a 0-2 win in the play-off first leg, England stumbling into the Euros. It was a portent of things to come.Player of the Pod this month is Chelsea’s charismatic Number 10, the man we loved to love, Gianfranco Zola. The panel track his career from the footballing backwater of lower league Sardinia to understudying Maradona (and more) at Napoli, European success at Parma, then bringing his crooked smile and dancing feet to Stamford Bridge. There's goals and glory in the Chelsea years before he keeps his word to fans on the island of his birth and finishes his playing career at Cagliari. This is a public episode.
