Chelsea v Tottenham | CotC with Gary Mantle & Ricky Saunders | Planet FPL 2024/25

It's West v North London on Clash of the Correspondents this week as James is joined by Chelsea fan Gary Mantle and Tottenham Hotspur fan Ricky Saunders to discuss managers, expectations and FPL ahead of next Thursday's GW30 meeting at Stamford Bridge. Both managers are under scrutiny with Chelsea fans seemingly split at the moment on Enzo Maresca, with form inconsistent, and qualification for next season's Champions League in the balance. And is it win the Europa League or bust for Ange Postecoglu? It's beginning to feel like it might be. That makes investment in Tottenham players in FPL awkward with the Europa clearly the priority, but with many FPL managers set to Wildcard in GW31 and with Tottenham then facing Southampton and Wolves is there something that can be punted on? There's coverage of Chelsea assets too, with their next 3 looking good for the potential the attacking players, but Christopher Nkunku remains inconsistent, Nicolas Jackson has been a huge miss, and Cole Palmer hasn't scored since Jackson got injured. Is Palmer's injury and form cause for genuine concern? Leicester v Arsenal | CotC with Sam Martin & Adam Pritchard | Planet FPL 2024/25

On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Leicester City fan Sam Martin and Arsenal fan Adam Pritchard to discuss the altest at their clubs - and they include some major concerns - ahead of Saturday's meeting at The King Power Stadium. It looks like it's down to a 4 team race to survive at the bottom of the table and hopes Leicester may have had of a resurgence after victory at Tottenham were dampen by a chastening 4-0 defeat at Everton. Do they have what it takes to survive? And can Arsenal chase down Liverpool's lead at the top? The task looks tougher now with Kai Havertz confirmed likely to miss the rest of the season and Arsenal's attack now looks stretched to the limit for availability. Plus there's FPL discussion with Arsenal's Ethna Nwaneri likely to catch attention at a bottom price of 4.5, could the Gunners defence suffer as a consequence of their injury problems and there is one Leicester asset likely to catch the attention of some Fantasy managers for Gameweek 26. Brentford with Tom Medd | Correspondent Week ep.3 | Planet FPL 2024/25

Brentford fan Tom Medd joins James to discuss The Bees ahead of the new season including whether we should expect more from a club who suffered badly with injuries. But the injuries look like they may persist with new signing Igor Thiago out injured until the winter and with major problems persisting at full-back. Will Ivan Toney stay or go? That's the major headline into The Bees season but if he stays will he even start in Gameweek 1? Bryan Mbeumo is currently an attractive differential in FPL, but FPL managers may be put off by Brentford's three challenging away trips inside the first five gameweeks; and Tom wants to make the case for a different attacker from the club. And Mark Flekken is currently the most owned 4.5 keeper but could his position in the team be under threat and do any of the 4.5 defenders at the club offer a better or safer alternative? On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Aston Villa fan Lee Jackson and Newcastle United fan Simon Bibby to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead and the best FPL assets from each ahead of the GW22 meeting at Villa Park. Are Villa still in contention for the title? And would it now be a disappointment if they didn't finish in the top 4? Villa's excellent record this season evokes memories in Newcastle's outstanding campaign last season. But Eddie Howe's side could find themselves in the bottom half before they travel to Villa. Are injuries the obvious explanation for a run of 6 defeats in 7 or is the manager's position under threat? There's FPL discussion, including the prospects of captaining a Villa or Newcastle player in GW23, whether the likes of Ollie Watkins and Kieran Trippier should be held longer-term despite many FPL managers requiring funds for multiple premium assets and there's also discussion on the likes of Alex Moreno and Anthony Gordon. Vinicius Jr.'s months-long injury absence in Real Madrid

During the World cup Qualifiers break, injuries can come off. The crash can remake the line of a season for clubs, and one squad that has cases to fear are Real Madrid because of Vinicius Junior. After stranding Brazil's 2- 1 defeat to Colombia with an injury, additional testing has refereed that the winger has a torn muscle in his thigh. This is an injury that could sideline him for over to three months but will clearly close his involvement for Los Blancos and Brazil for the remains of 2023. With quite the title race underway in La Liga between Girona, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, this is a seismic change to effects as now Madrid will have to manage without ViniJr. just as he was rounding into form for the squad. With six goals and three assists in simply 973 minutes this season, the Brazillian has been electric when on the playground and Los Blancos could be in complication without him for an long period of time. Who could be his replacement? While the only reply is no one, the attacking side has to indicate to someone, and that someone is 20- year-old Jude Bellingham. Nursing a shoulder injury, the Englishman is enjoying one of the sporty debut seasons in Real Madrid history with 13 goals and three assists in all tournaments, but awaiting him to observe this pace would overlook holding for Carlo Ancelotti's men. Bellingham's 13 goals possess come from an awaited goals total of only6.61 in all tournaments and while good strikers can constantly outperform their xG. Still, that is where concern starts to make for Madrid, If Bellingham does decelerate down. Rodrygo is also rounding into form but he is not as effective coming to Joselu as he's coming to Vini.Jr. leading the line. Space and shot selection keeps defenses honest for Rodrygo to do the changeable. Looking at ViniJr.'s shot chart, he takes advised shots in good positions rather of just peppering a keeper from outside the box. Joselu has been a fine finisher but being further of an in- the- box sportsman, he does not bring that position of trouble to keep a defense honest, meaning there will be less space for his teammates. In utmost matches, Real Madrid will still have enough quality to contend but to win the title, they'll have to knock off top six sides which is when they begin to run into issues. How numerous injuries are too numerous? While a squad of Real Madrid's quality are anticipated to contend at the loftiest position indeed with injuries, a look is demanded at their current injury list. Alongiside ViniJr., Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao, Aurelien Tchouameni, Dani Ceballos, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Arda Guler and Eduardo Camavinga are all sidelined. utmost brigades would struggle with just a many of these guys sidelined but Real Madrid have been suitable to contend with them missing time. It does feel like ViniJr.'s injury is one too numerous for Los Blancos, but let's take a look at their stats with and without the Brazillian in the XI. Looking forward One positive is having formerly cruised through group stage play in Champions League, only La Liga play really matters to Real Madrid for now. Facing Cadiz, Granada, Real Betis, Villarreal and Alaves in their coming five matches, they're ones that Real Madrid should win but these are also clubs that have troubled Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, so they also can not be taken smoothly. The protective worries are where it can get tough as if Real Madrid concede an early thing, it'll be indeed more delicate to come back from it without the Brazilian. Nott facing a true title contender until February in the Madrid derby vs Atletico, if a significant injury was going to be to a member of the team, now is the stylish time for it to be, but the loss of ViniJr. alongside the successes that Ancelotti and Madrid have formerly taken could prove to be too important int he long run.

Newcastle v Chelsea | CotC with Simon Bibby & Gary Mantle | Planet FPL 2023/24

A week can be a long time in football and that certainly feels the case ahead of this Clash of the Correspondents as James is joined By Newcastle United fan Simon Bibby and Chelsea fan Gary Mantle to preview the GW13 meeting at St James's Park. 10 days ago Newcastle were beating Arsenal but defeats since to Dortmund in the Champions League and Bournemouth in the Premier League amidst a mounting injury list has caused some concern. At the same time Chelsea were looking ahead to a daunting run of fixtures while struggling for form, but have since taken 4 points and scored 8 goals across 2 games against Tottenham and Manchester City. The fortunes have changed for both, quickly, so can Chelsea can now take advantage at one of te toughest way grounds to win at? Or Newcastle maintain their strong home form? Plus, key FPL assets discussed including Kieran Trippier, Tino Livramento, Anthony Gordon, Reece James and Cole Palmer. And there's a big differential about to make their debut... Planet FPL Live 4! | Planet FPL S. 7 Ep. 18 | GW11 Review | Fantasy Premier League

Last night at The Thirsty Bear Pub in Central London Suj and James welcomed an audience of Fantasy Football managers for the Gameweek Review and it was a Gameweek that will live long in the memory for being one of the lowest scoring weeks in memory for engaged managers with Erling Haaland off at half time against Bournemouth with a 1 point return and Mo Salah fared only 1 point better at Luton! All the games reviewed, which included Bruno Fernandes winning it late for Manchester United at Fulham, the controversy surrounding Newcastle's win against Arsenal, Brentford's topsy turvy victory against West Ham that was ultimately deserved in the end, Jeremy Doku's massive haul and the disappointing Aston Villa and Liverpool. And what next? Should Haaland owners sell? Injury concerns covered, transfer ideas pondered and GW12 captaincy discussed. Thank you to everyone who supported and helped with yesterday's event! Newcastle v Crystal Palace | CotC with Simon Bibby & Ruaidhri McLaughlin-Dowd | Planet FPL 2023/24

On the first of three Clash of the Correspondents during this International break James is joined by Newcastle fan Simon Bibby and Crystal Palace fan Ruaidhri McLaughlin-Dowd to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of the GW9 meeting between the two at James' Park. Ten points from the last 4 in the league from the Toon Army which included five consecutive clean sheets across three competitions, there's been a 4-1 beating of PSG in the Champions League and an 8-0 away win at Sheffield United and it's meant FPL assets, particularly defensively are of interest. But it's Palace who current have the highest scoring goalkeeper in FPL (Sam Johnstone) and the highest scoring defender (Joachim Andersen!). And despite a growing and concerning injury list The Eagles find themselves only 1 point behind Newcastle in the table. Is Kieran Trippier worth the 2 million or so more than the other Newcastle defenders in FPL? And if not who is the best from the cheaper assets? Does Marc Guehi at 0.4 cheaper than teammate Andersen worth consideration now The Dane is approaching the 5.0 mark? Plus, can Callum Wilson or Alexander Isak be invested in despite injury and rotation concerns? How much should Fantasy managers be considering Anthony Gordon and can Palace find the way to goal with Michael Olise still unavailable and talisman Ebe Eze now sidelined? ...and does this have the potential to be last on Match of the Day.... again? Detective Dog

After a defeat at Wolves and a win at RB Leipzig, David Mooney is joined by Adam Carter from StatCity.co.uk and Dom Farrell from Sporting News to discuss the major talking points. They focus on Rico Lewis after his excellent midweek performance and there's a look at how City can solve the Rodri problem. Does City's set-up change dramatically with a difference in players available? We discuss ball-carrying players vs. controlling players - and we look at how injuries and suspensions have forced Guardiola's hand on that in the last week. Is City's squad too small? We look into that, too, as the manager has been speaking about that - and that leads us into previewing the upcoming tie with Arsenal. How will City look to get the better of the Gunners. The writer and football historian, Gary James, is also on the show, as we pay tribute to the City legend Francis Lee, who died this week. ========== To get bonus podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/BlueMoonPodcast Learn more about your ad choices. Bournemouth v Arsenal | CotC with Neil Grover & Adam Pritchard | Planet FPL 2023/24

James is joined by Bournemouth fan Neil Grover and Arsenal fan Adam Pritchard to discuss the latest at their clubs and the FPL assets within them in the first of two Clash of the Correspondents this week. The Cherries remain winless under Andoni Iraola but they've had a tough run of fixtures and have only lost to teams within the current top 4. Is there case for optimism still on the South Coast ahead of a kinder run of fixtures after Arsenal? Arsenal remain unbeaten but there appears some cause for concern amongst some recent injury concerns and an absence for Declan Rice would lead to potentially significant alarm. And do they need a no 9? Plus, all the key FPL assets discussed including best Bournemouth options that may enable investment in Liverpool, Bukayo Saka and if he'll ever get a rest, if Gabriel should be back on radar and more... Without goals from Riqui Puig (who was dealing with a groin injury) and Billy Sharp, the LA Galaxy wouldn't have salvaged a draw against St. Louis City. And after that first half, maybe they didn't deserve it. On today's show, hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter want to talk about the draw and what the Galaxy's schedule looks like headed down the stretch. And while they're still very much out of the playoffs, could the Galaxy finally climb out of 13th this weekend? Plus, are the injuries insurmountable at this point? Chelsea with Gary Mantle | Correspondent Week ep. 16 | Planet FPL 2023/24

Gary Mantle joins James for a particularly important Correspondent Week Podcast on Chelsea who are now managed by former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino and have a number of important and interesting FPL assets that appeal, particularly ahead of a critical fixture swing in Gameweek 3. But Christopher Nkunku ‘might’ be injured, should he be fit he is still very much worth considering, but so to is the slightly cheaper Nicolas Jackson. Reece James vs Ben Chilwell, which is best for investment? Or should 4.5 Levi Colwill take Fantasy managers defensive investment? Or should, with concerns about depth in midfield, Chelsea’s defence be avoided all together? Super Sunday | Newcastle leapfrog Man Utd with dominant win | Neville: ‘Utd not good enough in the big matches’

Kelly Cates is joined by Shay Given, Jamie Redknapp and Gary Neville as they witnessed Newcastle convincingly beat Manchester United 2-0, with the result moving the hosts above the visitors in the Premier League table. Neville reflected and said that there are worrying signs that Man Utd are not good enough in the big matches and they thoroughly deserved to lose at St. James’ Park. Redknapp feels United are still missing some key players in the midfield and attacking areas, and Neville agreed by saying that Erik Ten Hag was not backed by the board in January. The trio also react to the news that broke earlier in the day that Brendan Rodgers left Leicester City by mutual consent. Shay Given feels Rodgers was not supported by the owners at the club in the previous two transfer windows and that contributed to the outcome. Rafa Benitez has been linked to take over at the King Power stadium, but Neville doesn’t believe that would be a good appointment for the club. There is also reaction from both dressing rooms including a damning verdict by Manchester United defender Luke Shaw. We look at what's been said this week and the underlying issues behind it all.Turning our attention to the women's game, we look at Canada's run to the CONCACAF championship final against the US. But like so much of this early season, this show will revolve around Cabral's inability to make an impact on the game and why Dejan Joveljic is the hot hand that needs more playing time. Will Vanney's defensive balance be thrown away by the club in favor of more scoring? Or does it make more sense to get Joveljic minutes in place of the biggest goal-scoring threat for the Galaxy? What do you make of two Designated Players that are injury prone and two Designated Players that have shown relatively little in the way of production in the goals or assists category? We've got an entire show of discussions on formations, chances created, and expected goals — all hoping to get the best players on the field for LA. Thanks for joining us!
