Gary Lineker believes Mikel Arteta has shown signs of 'panicking' in recent weeks but still expects Arsenal to win the Premier League.

Arsenal’s FA Cup exit, coming just two weeks after their Carabao Cup disappointment, leaves their season at a crossroads. Meanwhile, Manchester City delivered arguably their performance of the season in a statement win over Liverpool. Are Pep Guardiola’s men hitting top form at exactly the right moment, and does the result leave Arne Slot under pressure? Elsewhere, Chelsea ran riot with seven against Port Vale, but does the scoreline paper over the cracks? With Enzo Fernández handed a two-game ban, is Liam Rosenior attempting to assert control in the dressing room? Burton Albion 1-1 Barnsley League One - Friday 3rd April David McGoldrick came to Barnsley’s rescue again as his late equaliser earned the Reds a 1-1 draw at Burton Albion just when it looked like another frustrating afternoon was about to end in defeat. Trailing to Charlie Webster’s goal on the hour mark, Barnsley were staring at another limp loss in a run that is becoming worryingly familiar. Instead, McGoldrick popped up in the 90th minute to salvage a point and spare the Reds a fourth defeat in five matches. It keeps the scoreboard ticking over, but it does little to hide the nagging truth. Barnsley are finding ways not to lose, but not many ways to win either. Early Promise, Familiar Pattern There was at least a bit of intent about Barnsley early on. Conor Hourihane made four changes from the side beaten by Doncaster, with Kieren Flavell handed his first league start of the season, Mael de Gevigney returning in defence, Vimal Yoganathan coming into the side, and Tom Bradshaw leading the line. The Reds started brightly enough too. Inside the opening couple of minutes, Bradshaw nearly gave them the perfect start when he got on the end of a low McGoldrick effort, only for former Barnsley keeper Brad Collins to recover and keep it out. It was the sort of opening that hinted Barnsley might finally deliver something a bit more convincing. Instead, the game gradually settled into a shape we have seen too many times this season. There was an early disruption when Eoghan O’Connell had to come off after an aerial collision with Jake Beesley, forcing Jonathan Bland into the action far sooner than expected. Even so, Barnsley still had moments. McGoldrick fired over after good work from Luca Connell, while Burton carried their own threat, with Beesley causing problems in the air and Flavell needing to deal with a Jack Armer effort as the hosts began to grow into it. Just before the break, Barnsley had two decent opportunities to make their pressure count. A quick move ended with McGoldrick picking out Bradshaw, whose header drifted off target, and de Gevigney then met a Connell free-kick without being able to beat Collins. There were enough openings there to suggest Barnsley could take control. The problem, once again, was making that control matter. Burton’s Moment of Quality The longer the game went on, the more it began to drift in Burton’s favour. Barnsley had seen plenty of the ball in spells, but too often it felt like possession without purpose. Burton, meanwhile, looked more direct, more willing to turn pressure into something meaningful, and eventually that told just after the hour. A loose bounce broke kindly for Kyran Lofthouse, who surged into the box and squared for Charlie Webster to finish. From Barnsley’s point of view, it was a poor goal to concede. From Burton’s, it was simple, sharp and effective. That was the frustration of it. Burton did not exactly tear Barnsley apart all afternoon, but when the opening came, they attacked it with conviction. Barnsley, for all their neat enough moments, too often looked like a side waiting for something to happen rather than forcing it. Hourihane responded by making changes, sending on Reyes Cleary and Adam Phillips for Scott Banks and Patrick Kelly, before de Gevigney, bloodied and unable to continue, was replaced by Marc Roberts. Leo Farrell also came on for Tennai Watson as Barnsley threw bodies and hope at the final stages. Last-Gasp Salvation For long periods, it felt like one of those afternoons where the final whistle would bring another round of frustration, another post-match inquest, and another reminder that Barnsley’s season has drifted into a pattern of nearly moments and missed opportunities. Then, right at the death, they found a way through. A free-kick into the box caused panic, Roberts headed the ball back into the danger area, and McGoldrick did what McGoldrick has done so often this season by being in the right place at the right time. His finish in the 90th minute rescued a point that had looked beyond Barnsley only moments earlier. It was a lifeline, and in isolation it was a fine moment. But it also said plenty about where Barnsley are right now. Too much of the burden still falls on one player, too many games follow the same script, and too often the Reds need a late intervention simply to paper over another underwhelming display. A point at Burton is better than none, and there was at least some character in the way Barnsley kept going. But nobody will be pretending this was a performance that answered many questions. It was another afternoon of flashes rather than authority, of effort without enough cutting edge, and of a team still searching for the consistency that never seems to arrive. Team Line-ups: Burton Albion (3 - 4 - 1 - 2): B. Collins, A. Hartridge, J. Moon, U. Godwin-Malife, J. Armer, D. Williams, S. Krubally, K. Lofthouse, A. Cannon, T. Shade, J. Beesley Subs: K. Adom, K. Roberts Goals: D. McGoldrick (90') Yellow Cards: L. Connell (11'), L. Farrell (86'), M. Barnsley had enough of the ball and enough moments to get something from the game, but once again they lacked the authority and attacking sharpness to really take hold of it. Burton looked the more dangerous side when it mattered, and without McGoldrick’s late intervention the Reds would have been trudging home with very little argument. That is the concern now. Barnsley are still in matches, still having spells, still showing bits and pieces. But football is not won on bits and pieces. It is won by turning decent moments into control, pressure into goals, and possession into something that actually hurts the opposition. McGoldrick spared them this time. He cannot be expected to keep doing it forever.

Mainz star Paul Nebel spoke exclusively to the Bundesliga about teammate Nadiem Amiri, the 05ers’ survival chances, and potentially playing his way back into Germany contention.

Another horror weekend for Tottenham features heavily on the Gameweek Review Podcast as they lost the big 6 pointer against Nottingham Forest, meaning there could be another change of manager in the offing shortly. The only good news was West Ham lost too, and there were others higher up the league who will be feeling particularly disgruntled, with Newcastle losing the Tyne-Wear Derby despite taking an early lead and Chelsea were taken apart at Everton. And for FPL managers it's a time for calm with the Gameweek 32 deadline 18 days away and the FA Cup Quarter Finals likely to prove pivotal to strategy. But there's still plenty to speculate on and one of the teams who could suddenly become of serious interest is Brighton. Dharmesh Sheth is joined by Mark Ogden, John Cross and Jason Burt to reflect on the weekend’s sporting action. We start with Arsenal’s hard-fought 2-1 victory over Brighton, sealed by a stunning David Raya save, that kept them top of the league. But are Arsenal beginning to feel the pressure? The focus then shifts to The Ashes, where England finally claimed a Test win in Australia—but John believes it was a hollow victory played out on a dreadful pitch. Next up is Aston Villa’s superb run of eleven consecutive wins. A 2–1 victory at Stamford Bridge has moved them to within three points of league leaders Arsenal—but with Unai Emery’s side consistently outperforming their xG, can they keep this run going? Finally, we turn to Liverpool’s 2–1 victory over bottom-of-the-table Wolves. With his first league goal of the season, we ask: has the real Florian Wirtz arrived in the Premier League? Jimbo, Daniel Storey, Adrian Clarke and Mark Carey chew through the last Premier League weekend before Christmas. Morgan Rogers produces two moments of magic as Aston Villa beat Man United 2-1. Unai Emery's side have won 10 in a row and 7 in a row in the Premier League for the first time ever. There are victories for Man City and leaders Arsenal, who put a stop to their away slump with a 1-0 win at Everton. The match of the weekend sees Chelsea fight back from 2-0 down at St James's Park to rescue a point. And it's two red cards for Tottenham as Liverpool's revival continues in North London. Plus yet more misery for Wolves and yet more joy for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Leeds. Produced by Charlie Jones RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: Aston Villa 2-1 Man United (04.00) • PART 2a: Newcastle 2-2 Chelsea (23.00) • PART 2b: Spurs 1-2 Liverpool (30.00) • PART 2c: Everton 0-1 Arsenal (40.00) • PART 2d: Man City 3-0 West Ham (44.00) • PART 3a: Leeds 4-1 Crystal Palace (50.00) • PART 3b: Wolves 0-2 Brentford (55.00) • PART 3c: Bournemouth 1-1 Burnley (60.00) • PART 3d: Brighton 0-0 Sunderland (63.00) Hosted on Acast. Dharmesh Sheth is joined by Martin Samuel, Dominic King and Julien Laurens to reflect on the weekend’s sporting action. We start with The Ashes, as Australia defeat England in the third Test in Adelaide to seal the series. Martin labels it a “crushing disappointment” for England, while Julien points out this wasn’t even Australia at full strength. Adam Collins joins the show to praise a dominant Australian performance and predicts a 5–0 whitewash. We then move to Liverpool’s dramatic 2–1 win over nine-man Spurs. Dominic questions Isak’s underwhelming spell after another injury, while Julien points to lingering defensive problems. Next, we ask where Spurs are heading, as Julien argues it’s hard to see what Thomas Frank is trying to do. Also, Manchester United’s chaos continues after a 4–4 draw with Bournemouth, prompting debate over whether Amorim has got it wrong on Kobbie Mainoo and his role in the team. Finally, we turn to the title race: is the pressure mounting on Arsenal? Top of the league but unconvincing, and with Gyökeres’ form in doubt, we ask who should lead the line when fully fit? And after a 3–0 win over West Ham, Man City look dominant in the title chase. Dom says, in a head-to-head, you’d pick Guardiola over Arteta every time. Sunday Supplement is a Sky Sports podcast. We start with the 1–1 draw between Chelsea and Arsenal. What does it mean for the title race and what did we learn about both sides? Can Pep’s side catch them, and will their famous second half of the season surge prove decisive again? We also check in with Aston Villa and Sunderland after their impressive starts and ask just how far both teams can go this season. Meanwhile, Newcastle and Fulham have had mixed results, can either find consistency and push up the table? Despite beating West Ham, questions continue to follow Liverpool and Arne Slot. Dharmesh Sheth is joined by Jacqui Oatley, Miguel Delaney and Carl Anka to reflect on the weekend’s sporting action. We begin with Man City’s win over Leeds. Pep’s side left it late with a last-minute Foden winner, but are they truly convincing? Carl finds their style this season fun to watch, yet a bit too chaotic to win the title. Next, we turn to Spurs’ defeat to Fulham — their third loss of the week — and the boos told the story, as fans watched a side that has won only once at home all season. We then look at Liverpool, who have lost nine of their last twelve, and ask how realistic it is that the club makes a change with Arne Slot? Next, we move to The Ashes. With the second Test starting on Thursday, we speak to Adam Collins about how the Australian press views England’s inconsistency — and what they must do to avoid falling 2–0 behind. Finally, we turn to the Premier League title race with Chelsea vs Arsenal. Miguel is impressed by how suffocating and controlling Arsenal have been in the second halves of games. But while Chelsea aren’t as polished as Arteta’s side, can they genuinely challenge for the title? Carl believes it’s Arsenal’s time. Sunday Supplement is a Sky Sports podcast. Jimbo has Duncan Alexander, Charlie Eccleshare and Liam Tharme alongside him in Totally Towers to look back on an incident-filled Wednesday night of Champions League action - and to look ahead to MD13 in the Premier League. Liverpool's season reached a new nadir at Anfield, beaten 4-1 by PSV to make in 9 defeats in their last 12 games for Arne Slot's side. Andy Jones was at the game and drops by to talk us through the latest horror show for the Reds. Arsenal meanwhile maintained their perfect start in the Champions League as they inflicted a first defeat of the season on Bayern Munich in their 3-1 win. Just how good was that second half performance in particular for the Gunners? Jay Harris joins us live from the Gare du Nord to reflect on Spurs' showing. Then it's all eyes on the upcoming Premier League weekend - and a top of the table clash as Chelsea host Arsenal at Stamford Bridge no less. Elsewhere, can Man City get back to winning ways against Leeds? Is West Ham just about the worst place for Liverpool to go in need of a result on Sunday? And are Wolves seriously going to find a way to stay up!? Produced by Charlie Jones and Lucy Oliva. Dharmesh Sheth is joined by Julien Laurens, Jacqui Oatley and The Telegraph’s Jason Burts to reflect on the weekend’s sporting action. We begin with Chelsea’s last-minute win over Liverpool at the Bridge. Whilst Laurens praises Maresca’s victory and show of emotion, he criticises Liverpool’s lack of control, with a third loss in eight days. Jason believes Liverpool’s winning start to the season was unsustainable and considers it a missed opportunity that they didn’t buy Marc Guehi in the summer. Next we look to Man United’s home win over Sunderland; whilst Julien focuses on Amorim’s side’s lack of consistency, was this clean sheet and good performance a sign of things to come? We then have The Athletic’s Megan Feringa on the pod to talk WSL; how far can Manchester United go this season? And with Arsenal dropping seven points already in the WSL, after bringing in Olivia Smith, why is it they can’t get over the line in the league in the same way the likes of Chelsea are able to? We also look at Arsenal’s win against West Ham, taking them to the top of the Premier League and Julien believes the Gunners’ control gave Nuno’s side no chance of winning the game. Finally, a gritty win for Tottenham against Leeds showed Thomas Frank’s ability to bring a different side to Spurs; Jason believes Frank can get them back in to the top four this season. Running Order: 3mins – Liverpool Lose 3-in-a-row 20mins – United Back to Winning Ways 38mins – Megan Feringa on WSL 46mins – Arsenal Rise to the Top 65mins – Frank’s New-Look Spurs Sunday Supplement is a Sky Sports podcast. On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Aston Villa fan Lee Jackson and Fulham fan Lewis James to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of Sunday's GW6 meeting at Villa Park. And there's only one place to start, what is going on at Villa!? With only one goal scored, no wins, and Sunday's limp draw at ten man Sunderland the most recent result, an inquest is beginning in to what is going wrong for Villa. Meanwhile, Fulham have started well, they've won the last two at their only defeat, at Chelsea, was certainly controversial. Can Fulham add to Villa's woes on Sunday? Plus, do Villa assets need binning on mass, or should faith be kept in the likes of Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins for the upcoming home games against Fulham and Burnley? And there's coverage too for FPL on Fulham assets including Joachim Andersen, Josh King and Rodrigo Muniz. Dharmesh Sheth is joined by ESPN’s Mark Ogden, The Mail’s Craig Hope and The Mirror’s John Cross to reflect on the weekend’s sporting action. We begin with Man United’s chaotic home win against Chelsea. Craig believes United will always have enough quality to keep bad managers in good jobs. But will this win be a turning point in their season? Next we look at Graham Potter, who’s feeling the pressure as West Ham were booed off, after a loss at home to Crystal Palace. Mark believes Potter tries to play an attractive style of football, but is there any way back for him from here? We also look at the difficult situation at Wolves, and whilst Vitor Pereira is struggling, Craig argues that Wolves have the right man in the role, and losing Cunha and Ait-Nouri was always going to be tough. Elsewhere, we look at Arsenal v Man City; John thinks Liverpool are setting such a relentless standard, that already in the season we have must-win games for the teams looking to challenge. We then move to Liverpool’s Merseyside derby win. Mark highlights Liverpool’s fire power but there’s also a running theme of throwing away leads this season. Finally, The Athletic’s Charlotte Harpur comes on to the pod to talk of the sad news of Liverpool FC Women’s manager Matt Beard’s passing. Charlotte talks of Matt’s legacy both on and off the pitch, including consecutive WSL wins and Matt's empathetic character.
