But is all right with the Galaxy now that they've figured out what three points feel like again? And why could this be a tricky week for the club and Greg Vanney! On today's show, hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter (is Kevin in New York City? Or is he somewhere else using a green screen? We'll never really know the answer!) discuss the Galaxy's win over Portland and why it's not all positives for the club. Plus, the guys want to discuss Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez's performance since returning from injury. Is he quietly having one of the best performances in MLS? And is that good enough for what the Galaxy need him to be doing on the field? And with the defensive issues the Galaxy have had over this season, did you think that this was their best defensive performance? What was different from the entire team on the defensive side of things? Finally, Josh and Kevin will spend a lot of time looking at the Western Conference standings and why the next two games could make or break the Galaxy's playoff chances. With just three spots for five teams, who is most likely to make a late push for a spot? And why is that team the Vancouver Whitecaps? And if you're the Houston Dynamo, are you playing for pride on Wednesday night? Or do you fold up the tent and go home? After all, the Dynamo had their biggest win of the season on Saturday and still got eliminated from the playoffs! We've got a packed show that's getting you ready for a big game on Wednesday night. How many points do the Galaxy get from a Dynamo side that doesn't like to lose games at home?

Can the Galaxy look at that game and feel good about themselves? Of course they can't. That was a loss. A 3-0 loss and no amount of stat manipulation will get you to feel good about that game. So we probably won't try that tactic this time. Probably. On today's show, hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter discuss the Galaxy's penchant for losing games in which they allow the opposition to score first. And we think it's pretty obvious to say we've fixed the Galaxy without really trying that hard. Will world peace be next? Josh and Kevin discuss the loss to Minnesota and why the stats actually do tell the story if you want to read them right. So why did Greg Vanney put many of his starters on the bench for that game? And why does this team need to figure out their level? Plus, if you could get one player to play at their peak for the next nine games, who has the most significant effect on this team down the stretch? The guys will also talk about the Galaxy's schedule, MLS's scheduled, and why you should be scoreboard watching on Saturday and Sunday night. Yes, it's that time of the year where you need to see what every game brings in order to try and place the Galaxy into the bigger picture. Are you confident the Galaxy are still making the playoffs? We've got a great show for you tonight that should spark some conversation around the water cooler. Wait, is there water cooler talk during a pandemic? Thanks for listening!

But can you claim that the Galaxy deserved more from that very even affair? On today's show, hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter will get you updated on the Galaxy information you need for the jump start to a hectic week for the team from Los Angeles. That will include hearing from Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez for the first time since June and what Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney thinks of this Houston Dynamo team now that they snapped a very long winless streak. Josh and Kevin will start with the draw against the Colorado Rapids. They'll talk about the play of Chicharito and why the Galaxy left two or three big plays on the table when facing off against the second-best team in the Western Conference. Can you pencil LA into the number four spot in the West? Or could a busy September, and some dropped points, mean the Galaxy will be scrambling toward the end of the season? The guys will transition to an overlooked Galaxy defender, and why you should probably never count out Dan Steres. After all, he got a Team of the Week nod in his return to the starting lineup and helped the Galaxy limit the Rapids to just three shots on goal. But the September schedule should have you nervous. Josh and Kevin will go over the Galaxy's close to this short and compact month and look at all the road games that should have fans more than a little on edge. If the Galaxy are going to come together, now would be a great time to do it. Finally, the guys look at a Houston Dynamo team that is bad. And even though they just won, they're still bad. And that means these are probably the easiest three points of the season. Which also means they will be anything but easy. We've got a packed show for you today, and we're very, very glad you could join us.

Welcome to Episode 56 of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast.Lee, Doug, and Gordon are back to pick over the bones of East Fife's capitulation to Dumbarton on Saturday. The Sons of the Rock went nap and the Fife defence went to sleep at set pieces as Dumbarton ran out easy 5-0 winners. It was another rough outing that sent the team back to the foot of the table. Where did it all go wrong and where does the blame lie? How can the team's away performances be so bad, so often? Were there any positives that can be taken from the game? And how can/will the team respond? The guys chat about all of that and a lot more besides.Three episodes ago we called the show "What Time Is It?" after the 5-2 shellacking by Cove Rangers. After giving up another five of the worst, is the answer to that question that it's time for manager Darren Young to go or can he turn things around? Who should replace him? Does it matter if the budget isn't there to take the team to the next level? The guys discuss it all and the fans have their say in this week's mailbag.

Welcome to Episode 53 of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast record across two continents.Lee, Michael, Doug, and Scott are back to pick over the bones of East Fife's latest loss, a heavy 5-2 shellacking at Cove Rangers. Where do the team go from here and when does the panic button get pressed? We chat about all of that plus try and a find a solution to getting torn apart on both wings and to get us some much needed midfield presence. But it's not all doom and gloom (just mostly!) as we look back at the midweek cup win against St Johnstone B and two new additions to the East Fife squad that can't come into the team quick enough going on the last performance. We also take a look around some of the funnier aspects of football from the past week and our Wavelength section returns with a song from Irish band My Brother Woody that will pretty much sum up the mood among the Fife fanbase right now.

On today's show, hosts Josh Guesman and Larry Morgan (Kevin is on his way back from the Olympics) want to discuss some of their observations about the Galaxy's draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps. The guys will start with the news the Galaxy signed Niko Hamalainen on Friday morning and why his inclusion in the team couldn't have come at a better time. What does the injury to Jorge Villafaña mean for the club during another busy stretch of games? And why did Greg Vanney and Derrick Williams talk about the Galaxy not being ready for first place? Plus, the Galaxy have one of the biggest cheerleaders in MLS. Why was this player all of the guys after the game ended? And why is he focused on the Galaxy's mental health? Josh and Larry will also talk about why fans are upset about everything from parking to food to police in the parking lot. And they're going to tell you why National TV has affected the Galaxy's schedule more than anything else. Why is there just one Saturday Night game left for the Galaxy in 2021? Alexi and Mosse open the show with the USMNT’s run of three wins in the Gold Cup, break down roster decisions, talk teams like El Salvador and Qatar impressing, and Mexico still being favorites but looking beatable. The guys then talk MLS, Heinze out at Atlanta after 17 games, Jozy Altidore rejoins Toronto and scores, and LAFC gets a W. (30:02). They discuss Leo Messi’s decision to stay with Barcelona, Barca’s financial troubles, and recent transfers, including Sergio Ramos to PSG and Jordan Sancho to Manchester United (49:20). In #AskAlexi, fans ask about PK follow-up rules, life in the corporate world as an athlete, and one fan still thinks broadcasts are using fake noise crowd. (1:05:13). So what happened in a clearly flat performance? And can they fix it before the face-off against Real Salt Lake on Wednesday night? Hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter discuss the loss the Galaxy sustained and why Greg Vanney believes his team couldn't find the answers against a Whitecaps side that hasn't won many games. But first, Kevin will update you on his 26-hour trip to cover the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. And why you couldn't take a penalty kick in his hotel room. Or maybe why he has a murder alley view. The guys will give you audio from Vanney as he explains what a short bench means for the current team and why he expects more from his starters. And can you look at the starting lineup the Galaxy put together and start complaining the club didn't have the horses to win this game? Josh will pull out some charts that tell you where the Galaxy compare to other seasons and why, even though they lost to Vancouver, they're still in a good spot when it comes to their road record. In fact, they're in a very good place. But they need to keep winning games on the road. And that probably means against Real Salt Lake. Josh and Kevin will preview the match against RSL and discuss why this is a team the Galaxy should beat. But they're not a bad team. They just haven't won a lot of games through the first third of the season. Is this a case of the Galaxy being the better team? What kind of reaction do you expect after losing to Vancouver? Can the Galaxy keep their streak of not losing consecutive games? We've got a packed show for you today, and we can't wait to share it with you!

On today's show, hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter discuss all the fun details of the game and why the Galaxy weren't tested -- some of that has to do with the Earthquakes. And some of that has to do with the Galaxy learning how to dispatch an opponent early. The guys will talk about the standout performance for Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, how he was named player of the week for the third time, and why he's level with Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the first ten games of the season. Plus, Josh will break down some Galaxy stats and tell you why the Galaxy are trending in the right direction, as long as no one wants to pay attention to the 2019 season. Finally, Josh and Kevin will talk about why Samuel Grandsir might be in trouble with his "boss" and what Kevin Cabral and Grandsir were able to do against San Jose. Leeds not a fluke , Liverpool shaky, Man Utd’s transfer Ls , Bale and Reguilon to Spurs, Aubamenyang has signed da ting, Liverpool stuttering, Chelsea not gelling ... these and many more topics are discussed on this weekends episode of the Checking VAR podcast.

There were so many goals in the midweek European fixtures, but Musa and Ryan begin with the NWSL Challenge Cup, which will be the first major league to return in the U.S. this Saturday (02.58), and the complications caused by Orlando Pride pulling out due to positive coronarvirus tests throughout the squad. The first wave of goals comes from Liga NOS, as Benfica are doing their best to not win the league (04.30), before moving on to Serie A with Atalanta v Lazio, and Inter v Sassuolo (05.43). Liverpool got four against Crystal Palace, which sees them one game away from clinching their first league title in 30 years (13.27) and Manchester United gave another impressive performance, recording their first EPL hat-trick since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. There’s La Liga (19.06), after Barcelona continues to struggle, Sergio Ramos’s beard and Atletico Madrid returning to form, before opening up the mailbag to answer questions on whether it’s better to win the league after watching or playing (24.20), Barcelona’s problems upstairs (25.20), who will win the Women’s Champions League (30.40), and much more. The lads discuss the 4-0 thrashing into positive goal difference of Newcastle at the Emirates with focus on starts for Ceballos and Eddie, dropping of Laca and no Guen in the squad, Saka keeping his spot at left back despite kola being fit, a slow start, Ozil’s shining performance, Ceballos feeding us from deep, Saka always being an outlet, Pepe’s output starting to deliver, some fantastic team goals, Laca’s return to scoring ways and a look ahead to the Europa league away leg at Olympiakos and the Everton game on Sunday. All this and much more!

England celebrated their 1000th game with an emphatic win in front of the King of Surrey (Marcus) to get us all excited about the prospect of how they might perform at Euro 2020, especially given how many games are at Wembley. Are we being overly optimistic? We’re not even sure ourselves. Elsewhere Wales need to beat Azerbaijan before a sterner test against Hungary, Northern Ireland have the tiny issue of a game against the Netherlands and the football gods have shone upon us to potentially create a Ramble dream team at Hearts. On what should have been a night for analysing England’s impressive performance in Bulgaria, racist abuse from the stands is, rightly, the main focus on today’s episode of Jules & Andy. We discuss the dignified response of the England players and staff, the unprecedented actions taken by UEFA and how this abuse can be stamped out at future matches. There’s also time for deserved praise for the likes of Raheem Sterling and Tyrone Mings, the latter hugely impressive on his international debut, who are sought out for comment by the media spotlight on occasions like this. We do manage to talk about England’s hugely impressive display on the pitch and take stock of where this England team are, eight months out from Euro 2020. We're currently on tour! In our regular Monday show, People's Poll, we asked which struggling Premier League team you'd like us to focus on - and the winner was Manchester United. Fresh off the back of a defeat at the London Stadium to West Ham and real cracks in the playing squad, things don't look like they are harmonious at Old Trafford. We look at who's to blame, whether Ole is the right man to move the club forward, and what areas of the playing squad ned improvement as well as a realistic analysis of where the team will finish this season. _________________________________________ You can find more from the Planet #FPL Team here: Web: www.planetfpl.com Twitter: @PlanetFPLPod (James) / @sujanshah (Suj) Facebook: www.facebook.com/PlanetFPL Instagram: @planetfpl Learn more about your ad choices. James Horncastle’s back in one of our continental hot seats and he’s packed some Serie A chat in his hand luggage! We start by talking about Juventus, as Sarri begins his reign in Turin. With the transfer window closing soon, their squad still looks a bit bloated— James discusses how they might be able to offload some of their fringe players as Sarri looks to streamline the team. We also discuss Franck Ribéry’s lovely move to Fiorentina and how they might get on under new coach Vincenzo Montella. We then head to France as Andy’s faves Lyon have got off to a great start (against admittedly poor opposition). Plus, there’s talk on Zinedine Zidane’s difficult task at the helm of Real Madrid and Thierry Henry sticking his cultured boot in. It's been a tough week for Vancouver Whitecaps, but at least not a pointless one. We look back at the Canadian Championship loss to Cavalry and the hard-fought goalless MLS draw in Minnesota, chat about the clear problems present, the messages sent, and what this Whitecaps team are going to look like for the rest of the season. We also chat with Whitecaps striker Theo Bair about breaking into the first team and heading off the MLS Homegrown game, and talk to two Cavalry FC members with Whitecaps connections - Martin Nash and Marco Carducci. This week we break down a comical week chock full of mistakes at the back (that continued at the time of recording) and look at the teams whose favours are starting to change ahead of the break, and those who just can't seem to catch a break.
All across Europe last weekend, teams in Top 4 and title races (outside the top two in England and a hot little potato of an Italian club named Atalanta) fell all over themselves in pursuit of glory. Heck, some of them seemed downright apathetic. Others, like Manchester United, seem unaware of what the points are worth and how many games remain to get more of them. The two Mikes break down all the stumbling and bumbling down the stretch. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone....

All good things come to an end. And so do bad things thankfully. Whatever Vancouver Whitecaps 2018 MLS season was, their playoff hopes were finally ended this weekend after two varying performances against teams at the top end of the Western Conference. We look back at the week that was. The collapse and defeat to Sporting KC, the fighting back draw against LAFC, and some of the headscratching decisions that happened over the 180 minutes. So where did it all go wrong for the Whitecaps this season, and were we really all that far away or is there an ever widening gap between Vancouver and the top teams in the West? All this plus the MLS, USL, and Canadian national team news of the week, and we go Dutch for this week's Wavelength section. England’s attempts to get the rave on came unstuck against Spain but it doesn’t dampen our enthusiasm for the UEFA Nations League. Germany are back and almost certainly invincible again. We knew it couldn’t last. You have to respect it though. Damn it you have to respect it. Mexico also kept their Group F party going, having harnessed the power of red meat, and Belgium revealed that Tunisia aren’t that good after all. With Gideon still absent after an unfortunate incident with Daisy Duck, Joe and Nick man the barricades in a way that the Whitecaps defence can only look on at with jealousy. It's the guys first Review/Preview show of the season and for once they don't just get to look ahead all joyfully at the weekend's action to come. Now they have to suffer the pain of the Sunday crew and pick over a disappointing display by the 'Caps. Vancouver's 2-2 draw with San Jose Earthquakes is in the spotlight. What went wrong this time, as another two points were dropped at home? More chances wasted, more sloppy defending, more disgruntlement amongst the fanbase. It's not the happiest time in Whitecapsland and the guys try to address as much of that as they can. Plus we hear postgame comments from both head coaches, San Jose's Mikael Stahre and Vancouver's Carl Robinson. Can the 'Caps turn things around in a timely manner? Well we won't have to wait too long to find out, with the team heading into the intense afternoon Texan heat to face an in-form, and frankly terrifying prospect, at FC Dallas. Is this a throwaway game? Should the 'Caps just go for a near full rotation and go young? We've seen understrength teams battle for unexpected points this year, or does that only happen against the 'Caps. If we're quaking in our boots at the prospect of this one, after recent results, is there actually any team in MLS right now that we can look forward to facing? All this and more awaits your earholes in our latest episode. Have a listen!
