Jamal Musiala Undergoes Surgery After Fracturing Fibula Against PSG. Bayern Munich have confirmed that star midfielder Jamal Musiala has undergone successful surgery after sustaining a serious injury during the Club World Cup quarter-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain in the United States. The 22-year-old suffered a fractured fibula along with a dislocated ankle late in the first half, following a heavy collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. As he challenged for a loose ball, Musiala's ankle was caught underneath Donnarumma, leaving him in immediate and intense pain. He was unable to continue and was substituted at halftime. Following his return to Germany, Bayern’s medical team acted swiftly. The club released an official statement confirming the successful outcome of his surgery and noted that Musiala will begin his rehabilitation process as early as Tuesday, just a day after the procedure. However, the road to recovery will be a long one. According to German news outlet BILD, Musiala not only fractured his fibula but also damaged multiple ankle ligaments, which significantly extends his expected recovery time. Initial estimates suggest he could be sidelined for four to five months, ruling him out for a major part of Bayern’s upcoming season. Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund spoke to DAZN about the situation, stating, “Unfortunately, it doesn’t look good.” Musiala, who has been a key figure for both Bayern Munich and the German national team, will be a huge miss in the coming months. His absence adds to the injury woes for the Bundesliga giants as they prepare for the critical stages of the season. The club has not yet confirmed a specific return date, but hopes are high that the young star will make a full recovery and return to the pitch before the end of the year.

Elsewhere, there’s the all-French affair between Brest and PSG, Celtic host Bayern Munich and Feyenoord v Milan just got a bit more interesting following the dismissal of Brian Priske… Domestically, in Spain the La Liga title race is the gift that keeps on giving with just two points separating Real, Atleti and Barcelona at the top of the table. That’s after Carlo Ancelotti’s side were held in a 1-1 draw by their Madrid rivals, allowing Barca to close the gap with a 4-1 victory over Sevilla. Over in Italy, it was a big Monday night in Milan as the Champions closed the gap to leaders Napoli to just one point after a 2-1 win over Fiorentina… just four nights after they’d played in Bergamot and la Viola had won 3-0 in a match that was rescheduled after the collapse of midfielder Edoardo Bove back in December. Napoli’s lead at the top stands at one point as they were held by Udinese. In France, PSG continued their imperious Ligue 1 form with a 4-1 victory over Monaco, which included a first goal for the club for a certain Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Distant chasers Marseille and Nice both registered wins of their own to keep up their Champions League charge in what’s a very competitive chase for a top three spot. And in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich prepared for their trip to Glasgow with a 3-0 win over Werder Bremen, stretching their lead at the top of the table to eight points. Bayern Munich has reportedly given up on persuading Alphonso Davies, a target for Real Madrid, to extend his stay with the club. The Bundesliga team has made occasional attempts to communicate with Davies' representatives over the past few months but has achieved no progress towards a contract renewal. The Canadian player had proposed lowering his salary request from €20 million per year to €17 million, which is close to Bayern's previous offer. However, there has been no significant movement since then, while Real Madrid remains poised to act. With Davies' current contract set to expire in 2025, he's at a critical juncture at the age of 23, and Real Madrid is not inclined to pursue him in January. According to Relevo, the Spanish club is determined to avoid taking Davies' potential signing lightly, as they have with previous transfers. Their goal is to secure him on a free transfer next summer as part of their defensive restructuring efforts.
