Pol Ballús, Julien Laurens, Seb Stafford Bloor and James Horncastle are alongside Jimbo for your weekly fix of continental action. La Liga is getting rather interesting all of a sudden, as Barcelona fell to a shock 2-1 defeat by Las Palmas - their first victory away at Barca since 1971! Real Madrid took full advantage and bounced back from their midweek Champions League disappointment at Anfield with a 2-0 win over Getafe. It means they’re just a point behind Hansi Flick’s side with a game in hand. But who’s that in third and just a point further behind… a resurgent Atlético Madrid?! Atalanta are showing they mean business in Serie A this season as they recorded their eighth straight win in all competitions with a 2-0 victory at Roma on Monday night. They’re just a point behind leaders Napoli, who were 1-0 winners at Torino thanks to Scott McTominay’s first half strike. But there were scary scenes in Fiorentina as their match with Inter was suspended and then abandoned when Edoardo Bove collapsed in the 16th minute. Thankfully the news since has been positive after receiving treatment in hospital. It ended 1-1 in Der Klassiker between Dortmund and Bayern on Saturday evening, but there’s concern for Harry Kane who went off early with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. Eintracht Frankfurt were big 4-0 winners in Heidenheim on Sunday to close the gap on Bayern at the top of the table to four points. And in Ligue 1, PSG’s poor week continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Nantes - the first time they’ve come from behind to take a point all season. But despite dropping points Luis Enrique’s side are seven points clear at the top of the table - and have Marseille to thank following their 2-1 win over Monaco. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: Moment of the weekend and latest on Edoardo Bove - (00.45) • PART 2: Bundesliga review - Dortmund and Bayern share the spoils as Leipzig’s horror season continues (13.00) • PART 3: Ligue 1 review - Disgruntlement in Paris as PSG held (26.40) • PART 4: La Liga review - Barcelona’s mini slump continues while Real and Atleti close the gap (37.40) • PART 5: Serie A review - Napoli’s slender win keeps them ahead of a charging Atalanta (50.30) Hosted on Acast. Julien Laurens, Pol Ballús, Seb Stafford Bloor and James Horncastle join Jimbo for a look ahead to matchday five in the Champions League - and a look back on the return to domestic action across Europe. All eyes on Anfield on Wednesday night as Real Madrid take on old friends Liverpool - having got right back into things in the La Liga title race with their commanding 3-0 win over Leganes which leaves them just four points behind leaders Barcelona with a game in hand. That’s after Hansi Flick’s side saw a two-goal lead slip away in their draw at Celta Vigo ahead of Tuesday night’s meeting with Brest. It’s still incredibly tight at the top in Serie A, with Napoli beating Roma 1-0 to spoil Claudio Ranieri’s first match back in charge - thanks to a goal from a certain Romelu Lukaku. The less said about Milan 0-0 Juventus the better as Thiago Motta’s side continue to uninspire with a trip to Villa Park looming on Wednesday… Bayern Munich and Harry Kane continue to lead the charge in the Bundesliga after their 3-0 win over Augsburg - but do they need a statement win against PSG to show their credentials? Plus, a big win for Dortmund on the pitch against Freiburg - but drama at their AGM off it. And in Ligue 1, PSG warmed up for that trip to the Allianz Arena with a 3-0 win over Toulouse - so can they finally translate their domestic dominance into a much-needed victory in the Champions League? Produced by Lucy Oliva. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: Moment of the weekend & standout Champions League ties (00.45) • PART 2: La Liga review - Real close the gap ahead of Anfield visit (08.35) • PART 3: Serie A review - Napoli maintain slender lead as Juventus underwhelm (19.40) • PART 4: Bundesliga review - Kane breaks yet more records as Dortmund drama continues (36.35) • PART 5: Ligue 1 review - PSG gear up for Bayern visit and Marseille go off grid (46.45) Hosted on Acast. Podcast royalty Jimbo and James Horncastle, welcome Julien Laurens, Seb Stafford-Bloor and Pol Ballus for a chat about the European football weekend. Milan finally win a derby and it might have saved Paulo Fonseca’s job. But how angry are the Roma ultras about the sacking of Daniele De Rossi? Dortmund are stuffed by Stuttgart, Leverkusen win late again and Bayern score a hatful again with Michael Olise making a magnificent start in Bavaria. Barcelona make it 6 wins out of 6 in La Liga under Hansi Flick but Marc-André ter Stegen suffers a season-ending injury. In France, Nice beat Saint-Étienne 8-0 and Marseille somehow win at Lyon despite being a man down for 85 minutes. Plus the Europa League, Andy Carroll and the Crying One. Produced by Charlie Jones. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1a: Moment of the weekend (03.30) • PART 2: Milan win derby, while Roma sack De Rossi (07.30) • PART 3a: Europa League preview and Galatasaray’s derby win (24.00) • PART 3b: Olise flying at Bayern, as Stuttgart stuff Dortmund (31.00) • PART 4: Marseille’s unbelievable win at Lyon (42.00) • PART 5: Six wins out of six for Barca (51.00) Hosted on Acast. With Roma bouncing AC Milan from the Europa League quarterfinal stage, there are now no American players competing for European honors this season. Jimmy Conrad, Charlie Davies and Jesse Marsch recap a disappointing night for Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah and what the future might have in store for the Rossoneri as they look to avoid Inter being crowned Scudetto champions in Monday’s Milan derby. Then, reaction to the U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 draw which sees eight MLS teams and eight USL Championship teams join the dance. There are mouth-watering fixtures aplenty for our Americans abroad this weekend, but no game compares with Haji Wright’s big day out in Wembley. And more teams punch their tickets to the 2025 Club World Cup - will Inter Miami be joining them? West Ham are in a European final! Sheffield Wednesday gave us one of the most dramatic nights of the season! And José Mourinho’s Roma… yeah, well they drew 0-0 with Bayer Leverkusen and had one shot to progress to the final of the Europa League. Vintage. Marcus, Vish, David and Jim chew on all of that with their Bobby Dazzlers (more on that, too) and discuss why Frank Lampard’s Chelsea will definitely halt Manchester City’s march to the title on Sunday. Plus, an unlikely gripe with construction sites in Birmingham and Vish’s even more unlikely obsession with Cesare Maldini. Juventus have got their points back - for now - but are they good enough on the pitch to make it count? Nicky’s not convinced but she does suggest Inter's Simone Inzaghi COULD be the next Carlo Ancelotti. Today Dotun, Andy and Nicky look to Italy and the ongoing race for Europe, they hear from a listener that took Andy’s advice and saw Jose Mourinho’s Roma play in the flesh. As part of our Friday webinars with APFA, we were recently joined by Alessandro Davite, an analyst who has worked with some of the best coaches in the world in Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte and Luciano Spalletti.
