It's Chip Strategy season! With the FA Cup 3rd round concluded for Premier League sides and with the draw for the 4th round now known Suj and James plot plans for using Chips in FPL for the rest of the season. And this year there's the added complication of the Assistant Manager Chip, so should it be used early on Arne Slot or do better opportunities await later in the season for other managers? There's also coverage of when might be best to use the Triple Captain Chip, which might be the biggest and best week for the Bench Boost, and with many of the Chips used best in a Double Gameweek does than mean the Free Hit should be used as a shield in a Blank Gameweek? Permutations and possibilities covered, including when FPL managers may want to use the second Wildcard and how it can set up for Chip usage. Plus, the Podcast kicks off with key notes from the FA Cup weekend and its impact on the Midweek FPL GW21 and thoughts on the new managerial appointments of Graham Potter and David Moyes, *For Chip Strategy discussion jump to around minute 34* Tomorrow on on Planet FPL: Clash of the Correspondents, Ipswich Town v Brighton & Hove Albion with Paul Gaught-Allen and Sam Murray Today on Patreon: The Patreon Q'N'A and Nico's Corner For the full Planet FPL schedule this week, including our offering on Patreon view this post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/119895820 Want to become a member of our FPL community and support the Podcast? On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Manchester United fan Gary Robinson and Southampton fan Matt Samuel to discuss the at their clubs ahead of next Thursday's Gameweek 21 meeting at Old Trafford. For United, there is some fresh following the excellent performance and draw at Anfield, which followed a run of three straight league defeats without scoring. Is there any chance that United can build on that and get themselves back into contention for a European spot? Whilst for Southampton the appointment of new manager Ivan Juric has yet to see the desired impact and Saturday's humbling 5-0 loss to Brentford has now led to concerns that they may not even top Derby's 07/08 total of 11 points. So should FPL managers be targeting the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo now? Is Bruno even an option to captain this week? But is he worth the money over teammate Diallo? There's also questions on Southampton assets, yes really, some people are actually interested with BGW29 in mind and there's also discussion on Marcus Rashford's future. All the games covered including the concession of points from all of Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool and eyes turn to next Tuesday's Gameweek 21 with discussion including players to target from the likes of Crystal Palace and Newcastle, upcoming captaincy, concerns about owning multiple Arsenal defenders and Trent Alexander Arnold's nightmare performance will have caused concern for owners, and those looking to invest, with a Liverpool double Gameweek likely coming soon. On the opening Planet FPL Podcast of 2025 (Happy New Year everyone!) James is joined by Tottenham fan Ricky Saunders and Newcastle fan Simon Bibby to discuss very differing fortunes for the two clubs currently, FPL assets and Saturday's meeting at White Hart Lane. Is Ange Postecoglu losing the faith of Tottenham fans or can the injury crisis defensively be used as an excuse for the run of poor results? Whilst opponents Newcastle are flying. Monday's comfortable victory at Old Trafford means it's four consecutive league wins with none conceded. There's discussion on what Tottenham can do this month to turn their fortunes around; the tactical tweak involving Sandro Tonali that has had a transformative impact for Newcastle; and there's discussion on all the key FPL assets which features the popular Newcastle trio of Lewis Hall, Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak. Suj and James review the 9 games played so far in Gameweek 19 as we approach the halfway point of the season and interesting both sit on 75 points despite Suj going against (The King) Mo Salah for captaincy. Suj got to see first hand at the London Stadium just how good Liverpool are, not long after James had seen just how far Tottenham are from the league leaders level as they drew with Wolves. But perhaps the most damning performance of the Gameweek was from Ruben Amorim's Manchester United last night! All the games reviewed as Salah hauled again, Haaland did a goal and Chelsea were humbled by a Liam Delap inspired Ipswich whilst Nottingham Forest's incredible run continued. Suj and James review the weekend of Gameweek 17 that provided some monster scores as Mo Salah returned his biggest FPL haul of his incredible season as Liverpool won 6-3 at Tottenham, while Arsenal were also big scorers this weekend as they hit 5 at Crystal Palace. Options are considered throughout he Podcast, including spreading the money and could that even bring a rout back to Erling Haaland in time for Manchester City's enticing next 5 fixtures!? It's another meeting of 'rivals' on Clash of the Correspondents as James is joined by Brighton fan Sam Murray and Crystal Palace fan Ruaidhri McLoughlin-Dowd to discuss the latest at their clubs, expectations, performance and the FPL assets at the clubs ahead of Sunday's meeting at The Amex. Brighton are 7th but it feels like it could have been so much better after a couple of weeks that has included dropped points after being ahead against Southampton and Leicester. Is consistency likely to hold them back in a bid to qualify for Europe. Palace meanwhile are 17th, but of the 6 teams cut adrift at the foot of the table the feeling from most is that they're far better than their placing suggests. it's 1 defeat in in 7, or 1 win in 6, depending on how you want to look at it. Plus there's discussion on FPL assets, with comparisons of players at the clubs, including Dean Henderson v Bart Verbuggen and Kaoru Mitoma v Ebe Eze. There's also focus on Joao Pedro, cheaper midfielders and the best choices from the backlines, with The Seagulls in the middle of a great run, and a positive turn of fixtures is only around the corner for The Eagles. James is joined by Chelsea fan Gary Mantle and Brentford fan Tom Medd to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of Sunday's Gameweek 16 meeting at Stamford Bridge. Are Chelsea now serious title contenders following Sunday's victory at White Hart Lane or are there too many concerns around aspects of their defence? Can Brentford turn any of their incredible home form into success on the road or is the disparity in home v away results explained away by the quality of opponents faced? Plus, FPL discussion includes whether man of the moment Cole Palmer should be captained this weekend, the appeal of enabler Enzo Fernandez, if Robert Sanchez and Levi Colwill are safe from further rotation and whether it's time to finally say goodbye for FPL managers who have held Brentford's players such as Mark Flekken, Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa. Suj and James review the weekend of Gameweek 15 that saw us a game down following the postponement of The Merseyside Derby and the Podcast includes details of when the game may be rearranged to. Unfortunately for those still on the Erling Haaland path, Mo Salah owners appear to have won again, with many moving the captaincy from Salah to Cole Palmer who returned with an 18 pointer in Chelsea's 4-3 victory at White Hart Lane which increased the pressure on Ange Postecoglu. Is James ready to call time on the Aussie's reign!? Plus, analysis of all the games, info on those walking the suspension tightrope, defenders are on agenda but there aren't many that convince, should Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa really be sold after returning well against Newcastle, Gameweek 16 should look good on paper and there are well wishes for Michail Antonio. Clayton joins James for a review of GW14 in a week where Arsenal won from corners and Tottenham lost from one, but that's not the only reason Tottenham lost, and James is in a mood this morning following the dismal showing at Bournemouth. He did at least have some reason to cheer via FPL means as Alexander Isak was held and returned well in Newcastle's thrilling draw against Liverpool, but Mo Salah dominated again with another monster haul. The Egyptian King is now up to a barely believable 151 FPL Points for the season. Clayton's gameweek meanwhile was somewhat saved by an Arsenal player and The Gunners ran out winners against a Manchester United team, who impressed with their structure, if not their threat. All the games from Wednesday to Thursday covered, including Chelsea's demolition of Southampton, Aston Villa and Manchester City getting back to winning ways; whilst there's debate on FPL transfers as James seeks a new defender, there's a solution offered for Bryan Mbeumo owners, if those who have prersisted with Erling Haaland have to call it quits and is there enough reason to take Salah on with the captaincy this week? ...Tottenham might have offered one... but not for the right reasons. On Clash of the Correspondents it's a London Derby preview as James is joined by Fulham fan Lewis James and Arsenal fan Adam Pritchard to discuss the latest at their clubs and their FPL assets ahead of Sunday's GW15 meeting at Craven Cottage. But first for Fulham, they host Brighton tonight, and victory could see them move up to 6th and on Understat's expected points model they should be 3rd, yet Lewis raises some frustrations will some recent results and performances. For Arsenal it was a third straight win last night after two goals scored from corners saw off Manchester United and that was despite the absence of Gabriel and Riccardo Calafiori who will remain doubts for Sunday. There's FPL discussion on Bukayo Saka, Jurrien Timber's appeal, if Kai Havertz's returns are a concern, Martin Odegaard's impact since his return, whether owners should sell Fulham assets Antonee Robinson and/or Raul Jimenez, who's the better pivk between Alex Iwobi and Emile Smith Rowe plus lots more... On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Bournemouth fan Neil Grover and Tottenham fan Ricky Saunders to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of Thursday's GW14 meeting on the South Coast. Andoni Iraola's Cherries are impressing and fresh from an excellent victory at Wolves host a Tottenham side who continue to show inconsistencies and have a growing injury list. Antonie Semenyo returns from suspension and will interest FPL managers but does Saturday's penalty hat-trick hero Justin Kluivert offer an even cheaper route for Fantasy managers into The Cherries attack? There was another goal for Brennan Johnson at the weekend and his underlying data suggests there could be more to come, so why is he being overlooked by the majority of Fantasy managers and is he now the best asset from the league's top scorers. Plus, there's discussion on Evanilson and Dominic Solanke, who, sickness permitting, is set to face his old club, there's concern over the goalkeeping situations at both clubs and there's advice for those who want to buy or invest in the likes of Milos Kerkez and Pedro Porro Thursday on Clash of the Correspondents: Fulham v Arsenal with Lewis James and Adam Pritchard Tomorrow on Planet FPL: The Clayton & James Show Ep. 17 Today on Patreon: The Differential Show and The Team News Stream For the full Planet FPL schedule this week, including our offering on Patreon view this post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/117134006 Want to become a member of our FPL community and support the Podcast? Suj and James review all the Gameweek 13 games as the pain continued for many who are still on Erling Haaland as the FPL midfield trio of Mohamed Salah, Bukayo Saka and Cole Palmer scored 45 points between them. Can Haaland owners really sell now? Or does it feel like they've got to? City were beaten again at Liverpool and comfortably so, whilst Arsenal and Chelsea both won comfortably, as did Ruben Amorim's Manchester United who go to The Emirates next. All the key FPL topics covered including whether it's time to dump Bryan Mbeumo, whether West Ham can be invested in, if Alexander Isak owners will move on to Nicolas Jackson, enablers in defence and midfield are covered and there's debate about captaincy for GW14 with Palmer likely to be favoured by many against a depleted Southampton, but could he be rested!? And Suj has gone early with two moves ahead of Gameweek 14, and it may be the same two template players that James targets, with one of them a certainty for purchase. Clayton and James discuss Liverpool's key three out of contract players, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah and speculate on what is actually going on with all three currently able to speak to other clubs if no contract is agreed before January 1st. Can it really be that Liverpool haven't offered Salah an extension or dis the Egyptian King make a tactical play when speaking to journalists after Sunday's victory at Southampton? Could Liverpool even put Salah or Alexander-Arnold on the market in January? And ultimately is it thought that the three players would stay? Suj and James review another dramatic weekend of Premier League football and all the important FPL discussions as several popular assets delivered the goods again with Mo Salah, Bukayo Saka, Matheus Cunha and Joao Pedro all returning well. But there will be some who struggled and the swing against for Erling Haaland owners is a tough one to take. Is it time to call it quits on FPL's highest priced player? Haaland's latest blank came in an astonishing result at The Etihad as Tottenham won 4-0, much to James' delight; and there were also comfortable victories for Arsenal and Wolves whilst Liverpool made hard work of beating Southampton and we saw Ruben Amorim's debut as Manchester United manager end in a draw at Ipswich. On Ask James today, with the news of Tottenham missing both first choice centre backs there's a big warning for Fantasy managers who were looking to sell Erling Haaland, but with Mateo Kovacic also out for City, Tottenham are not without their own chances to hurt tomorrow and that may make selling or benching the likes of Brennan Johnson or Dominic Solanke awkward too. Plus, Trent Alexander-Arnold is out and James will be moving him on as part of a plan to get Alexander Isak, and going treble Arsenal defence is not something James is ruling out at this stage, particularly with one player's xMins on the rise following today's Team News. On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Newcastle fan Simon Bibby and West Ham fan Chris Stone to discuss the latest at their clubs and the FPL assets within them ahead of Monday's meeting at St James's Park. Will either Correspondent give James reason not to buy Alexander Isak? And he's not the only Newcastle asset under consideration, with Lewis Hall likely to be popular for those in search of an enabling defender and there's a warning not to forget about Anthony Gordon and Joelinton's positioning could soon make him an interesting prospect. Jarrod Bowen for Bryan Mbeumo in GW14 is a move James earmarked in pre-season, but is there any faith in The Hammers who sit in 14th currently and with the pressure mounting on Julen Lopetegui. On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Arsenal fan Adam Pritchard and Nottingham Forest fan Mark Sutherns to discuss the FPL assets at their clubs and the current key talking points ahead of the GW12 meeting between the clubs at The Emirates. And it's two clubs who currently sit inside the top 5 on 19 points. Forest have very much exceeded expectation so far, so is a push for European qualification now a realistic goal? While for Arsenal the gap to leaders Liverpool is already 9 points, how concerning is this or do Arsenal now have a set of fixtures that will make them believe they can close the gap? There's discussion on key attacking Arsenal assets Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz, whether double Arsenal defence is the way to go, why Jurrien Timber is likely to attract increased attention and the importance of Martin Odegaard's return. Suj and James discuss a miserable weekend, no, laugh at a miserable weekend of red arrows, failed Fantasy returns, and dismal home showing for the clubs they support! Yeah it's that kind of vibe. All the games reviewed as usual which included those disappointing days for West Ham and Tottenham and another disappointing day for vulnerable Manchester City, who were beaten by a Brighton side who now very much appeal for Fantasy managers and so to will Chelsea and Arsenal assets following their draw at Stamford Bridge. Both have very positive long-term fixtures. But the player the lads will probably want to but most is Alexander Isak, there's interest too in double ups on teams defensively, a Trent replacement may be needed, Mo Salah was on it again and provided another double point return ahead of facing the league's bottom side in Gameweek 12. James is joined on Clash of the Correspondents by Brentford fan Tom Medd and Bournemouth fan Neil Grover to discuss the latest at their clubs, and some key FPL assets from within them ahead of the meeting between them in GW11 at The Gtech, and spoiler, goals are expected. Should goals arrive key talismen Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo are likely to be involved. What are the prospects for these popular FPL assets both in the immediate and for the longer-term? There's also discussion on the best defensive assets from each with Mark Flekken, Sepp Van Den Berg and Milos Kerkez all featuring. Whilst upfront, there is perhaps surprisingly unanimous agreement on which of Evanilson and Yoane Wissa provides the best investment in the forward line for FPL managers. Plus, with Brentford having taken 13 points from 5 home games and Bournemouth off the back of 7 points in 3 consecutive games against Champions League qualifiers the question is posed of how much can these two clubs achieve for the rest of this season. And for one in particular there is a remarkable statistic over the last 38 games. On James' live stream today there's further discussion on the 7.5-9.0 forwards and those below, the danger of having 'the ideal' midfield four, best enabling defenders for consideration, James' desire to own Salah but why thoughts of Isak may hold him back, upcoming captaincies including whether Solanke is the only for this weekend, how away fans get treated in Europe causes annoyance, the pressure is on Lopetegui and O'Neil and James also outlines why he would give no consideration to using the Free Hit Chip any time soon. Suj and James have a look at five FPL forwards that James has been repeatedly warning recently that FPL managers shouldn't cut themselves off of, because although there are several good options below 7.5 (and one very good one above 9.0!) these five players may well show greater consistency and have more explosiveness. The 5 players in question (WishJ) are Ollie Watkins, Alexander Isak, Dominic Solanke, Kai Havertz and Nicolas Jackson. There's analysis of their statistics so far this season and a look at the fixtures ahead, with consideration to who their threats from within, their capability to be Fantasy talisman and much more. Clayton joins James to discuss the weekend fixtures from Gameweek 10 with Mo Salah captainers doing well, but many other popular assets misfired, which included the majority of James' team, infact all of James' team misfired, but it was somewhat saved from being the Gameweek from hell by Dominic Solanke! And the Tottenham forward was also a surprise selection as part of Clayton's Wildcard which has performed well. On the Pod, discussion on all the games includes why James was confident Bournemouth could upset Manchester City, Newcastle's tactical structure that nullified Arsenal, Chelsea intrigued but failed to see off Ruud Van Nistelrooy's 'good lads' of Manchester United and fears for Gary O'Neil at Wolves only intensified after a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace. And FOMO might have hit James for the first time this season...
