Jonny Pringle joins James for the opening Podcast on Day 4 of Correspondent Week to discuss all things Manchester City, including whether we should consider them as capable of getting back to their best. Erling Haaland is of course discussed, will Jonny start with him and take on Liverpool's Mo Salah? There's several head to heads within the City squad discussed including Eayan Ait-Nouri v Josko Gvardiol and Phil Foden v Omar Marmoush. The case is also made for consideration to the likes of Matheus Nunes, Tijani Reijnders and a hopefully, fully fit Rodri. But the opening fixtures aren't (in Jonny's words) a slam dunk, and unlikely many previous seasons, the squad has too many bodies. Meaning rotation is likely to be as big a headache as ever. Suj and James discuss the 9 games played so far in GW30 and it wasn't quite what many may have hoped it would be, as Mo Salah blanked, all Crystal Palace assets blanked as they got a late qualiser to draw at Southampton, Bournemouth lost to Ipswich and Manchester City strolled a 2-0 victory against Leicester. Rotation bit many, with some like Phil Foden benched, though Bukayo Saka returned as a substitute, but Justrin Kluivert didn't make the squad at all.But fun with flags (does not) continue, with Alexander Isak and Kieran Trippier having potential groin issues and Arsenal's Gabriel set for an extended absence after pulling his hamstring. Replacing Gabriel is high on the agenda, with teammate William Saliba and players with upcoming doubles high on the list of players to target and Newcastle assets will feel right for many looking for additions this week. But the biggest result for many last night was at The Amex, where Aston Villa's victory at Brighton takes away the bonus point potential for Unai Emery and Oliver Glasner, who were both set to be popular for those about to activate the Assistant Manager Chip, and James is among those who wanted to go there... so what now? On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Manchester City fan Jonny Pringle and Newcastle fan Simon Bibby to discuss the latest at their clubs and the FPL assets within them ahead of Saturday's meeting at The Etihad. City assets will be popular once we get to Blank Gameweek 29 and they have great fixtures then until the end of the season. There's discussion on Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Oscar Marmoush, Josko Gavrdiol and others. While for Newcastle the opposite is true, a tough run of fixtures begins now and they will almost certainly blank in Gameweek 29. Could Alexander Isak be a sacrifice on route? Could those that keep even consider benching this week!? There's also chat on Lewis Hall and with Anthony Gordon, yellow flagged, should be sold by Fantasy managers. And he's not the only Newcastle player flagged. Plus, thoughts on City's Champions League tie with Real Madrid, if the reigning League Champions can rediscover their best and Newcastle have a Carabao Cup Final to look forward to against Liverpool. James is joined by Aston Villa fan Lee Jackson and Manchester City fan Jonny Pringle to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of the Saturday lunchtime meeting at Villa Park. Have Villa's excellent results in the Champions League and the fact they are above the teams they would expect to be competing against in the race for a top 5 finish, masked concerns over league results? And where do you start with City? An almost unthinkable 8 defeats 11 games. There's discussion on lack of investment, the quality of the players and how much blame should Pep Guardiola take for what's going on? And can City fix this? Plus, FPL discussion on Erling Haaland, City defensive assets, what it would take to want to invest in Phil Foden or Kevin De Bruyne, if Jhon Duran now poses a serious threat to Ollie Watkins place, if Villa can be looked at defensively with a nice fixture swing from Gameweek 19 and if Morgan Rogers should be holding a player that looks like he could really hurt Saturday's opponents. Suj and James have an open discussion about the 6 highest priced midfielders in FPL; Mo Salah, Cole Palmer, Bukayo Saka, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden with the aim of ascertaining which of them is desired most in the immediate upcoming fixtures and then in the longer-term from the fixture swing in Gameweek 12. There's a look at the data so far this season, the fixtures, the explosive capabilities of the players and how many is the right number to have, the danger of having only one and cutting yourself off of others and how having as many as three can allow you flexibility to move budget around. But having only two, and certainly three, would make it very difficult to hold Erling Haaland moving forward. It's one point from seven for Wolves and the, pressure is mounting on Gary O'Neil, but have they really been as bad as the results suggest? For City, much of discourse recently has surrounded Pep Guardiola's future, but whether he stays on beyond this season or not, the immediate conundrum is finding solutions to replace the irreplaceable Rodri. Plus, FPL chat includes discussion on Erling Haaland and whether one of the upcoming fixtures (Southampton follows Wolves) look good enough to deploy the Triple Captaincy Chip. And Rico Lewis v Josko Gvardiol is discussed, if FPL managers should take a punt on Phil Foden with enticing fixtures but with Kevin De Bruyne close to a return; while Wolves assets are set appeal too with a brilliant turn of fixtures on the horizon, Ryan Ait-Nouri will attract interest and so to might attackers Matheus Cunha and Jorgen Strand Larsen. Suj and James look ahead to the forthcoming four weeks before the final Interlull in 2024, a period where for many popular FPL assets the fixtures look rough, primarily because of fixtures against each other. For example Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool all play each other over the next four. There's discussion on flipping assets with bad fixtures, such as Bukayo Saka for someone with a great run like Phil Foden, how often would feel comfortable to play the likes of Morgan Rogers or Antoine Semenyo over this period. There's discussion on which enablers are fancied from those with positive fixtures, Brennan Johnson's appeal and can James finally decided it's time for Erling Haaland? Kevin De Bruyne is undertaking a new role and also looking back to his best, with Phil Foden absent recently there's focus on him and other Manchester City assets, including the mid price midfielders and the prospects of defensive assets Rico Lewis and Josko Gavrdiol for FPL managers. Jonny Pringle joins James to discuss all things Manchester City and their FPL assets as they bid for a fifth successive Premier League title. But there's a growing number of neutrals who think this might not be their season. Obviously Erling Haaland is covered, Jonny's initial reaction to the 15.0 price was to consider going without, but following the weekend pre-season hat-trick against GW1 opponents Chelsea how does he feel now? There's debate on Kevin De Bruyne versus Phil Foden at 9.5, the exciting emergence of 5.0 Oscar Bobb and his likely minutes, whether Josko Gvardiol is an auto pick at 6.0 and if there are preferences or desires across the players priced at 5.5 in defence and 6.5 midfield. Plus, will the departing Julian Alvarez be replaced, if Ederson is expected to stay and if City may remain surprisingly quiet during this transfer window despite some feeling a refresh is required.
