It's an important one for FPL managers on Clash of the Correspondents as James welcomes Brighton fan Sam Murray and Brentford fan Tom Medd to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of attractive long-term fixture runs and tomorrow's meeting at The Amex. Verbruggen v Kelleher...? Van Hecke v Van Den Berg...? Minteh v Ouattara...? Welbeck v Thiago...? And sometimes the answer feels like it should be both! Sam Murray joins James as we head towards the conclusion of Correspondent Week and James is particularly keen to get more info on a number of potential Brighton assets, but will Sam deliver positive news? Bart Verbuggen and Maxim De Cuyper may appeal to those looking for defensive reinforcements, Danny Welbeck looks to be the clear first choice upfront and the attacking trio behind of Yankubah Minteh, Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter could all get attention ahead of the opener. But can Brighton be trusted after an inconsistent first season under Fabian Hurzeler? And can the assets be relied upon when there are so many options for selection? Plus, there's assessment of a tough opening run of fixtures, an intro to the new signings and a look at those who have left, including Joao Pedro. On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Brighton fan Sam Murray and Aston Villa fan Lee Jackson, with both teams still in the FA Cup, competing for a Champions League place and both could have a Double in Gameweek 33. And for Villa they have a Champions League Quarter Final which makes their FPL assets particular difficult to assess with a juicy fixture at Southampton between the games with PSG. And Brighton could well appeal then to as they host Leicester, but are they liable for rotation too. There's coverage of defensive assets from both, the likes of Yankubah Minteh, Kaoru Mitoma, Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford, plus talismen Joao Pedro and Ollie Watkins as well as the seemingly rotation proof Morgan Rogers. And three's coverage of goals for the rest of the season, the importance of the FA Cup, form, fixtures and more. There were some big games at the top of tables this weekend, featuring draws, some wins, and a lot of missed chances. Musa and Ryan begin with Juventus’ crucial 1-0 win over Inter in the Derby d’Italia (03:20), which came as a huge relief to Napoli, who dropped points for the third game in a row. They then head to Leverkusen, who were frustrated by Bayern and held to a goalless draw, which hindered their title hopes (09:25), before dropping in on La Liga, where both Real Madrid and Atleti went down to 10 men and dropped points (14:44). Finally, they head to the Premier League (22:38), where Kaoru Mitoma scored a goal-of-the-season contender; Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City won at the top of the table; and there was more Moyes magic and a much-needed win for Spurs against Manchester United. There's also reaction to Tottenham's victory against Manchester United in the battle of the underachievers, there was another limp display from Chelsea at Brighton which included a stunning goal for the hosts by Kaoru Mitoma, and Wolves made Liverpool sweat at Anfield. Plus, there's discussion on solutions next for those on the Assistant Manager Chip and some of the consequences from the announcement of Newcastle and Crystal Palace being arranged for Gameweek 32, James contemplates switching Salah to Haaland in GW29, but will the Egyptian King still get the armband when the two clubs meet in GW26? Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United faced Hürzeler’s Brighton on Matchday 22. It's another meeting of 'rivals' on Clash of the Correspondents as James is joined by Brighton fan Sam Murray and Crystal Palace fan Ruaidhri McLoughlin-Dowd to discuss the latest at their clubs, expectations, performance and the FPL assets at the clubs ahead of Sunday's meeting at The Amex. Brighton are 7th but it feels like it could have been so much better after a couple of weeks that has included dropped points after being ahead against Southampton and Leicester. Is consistency likely to hold them back in a bid to qualify for Europe. Palace meanwhile are 17th, but of the 6 teams cut adrift at the foot of the table the feeling from most is that they're far better than their placing suggests. it's 1 defeat in in 7, or 1 win in 6, depending on how you want to look at it. Plus there's discussion on FPL assets, with comparisons of players at the clubs, including Dean Henderson v Bart Verbuggen and Kaoru Mitoma v Ebe Eze. There's also focus on Joao Pedro, cheaper midfielders and the best choices from the backlines, with The Seagulls in the middle of a great run, and a positive turn of fixtures is only around the corner for The Eagles. Sam Murray joins James to discuss the summer changes at Brighton with Roberto De Zerbi replaced by Fabian Hürzeler, who at 31 becomes the Premier League's youngest ever permanent manager. The Podcast includes discussion on what we can expect tactically from the new man in charge. And there's plenty of FPL discussion which includes interest in new attacker Yankubah Minteh who may thrill from the right and is attainable at 5.5, the same price as the popular Joao Pedro, but will the forward prove his fitness ahead of Gameweek 1? And the brilliant Kaoru Mitoma (6.5) is back fit, but largely being ignored. Perhaps that's because of a difficult fixture schedule which sees The Seagulls play 7 of last season's top 8 in the opening 11 gameweeks, but week 4 & 5 are very attractive with home fixtures against Ipswich and Nottingham Forest, a period that looks perfect to field 4.0 defender Valentin Barco, who if he does well is likely to make interest in any of the rest of the defensive assets at 4.5 undesirable. But maybe only from the start. On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by West Ham fan Chris Stone and Brighton fan Sam Murray to discuss all the latest at their clubs ahead of their GW20 meeting in East London and both clubs are still to play tonight in GW19. Jarrod Bowen is currently FPL's 5th highest scoring player but will the departure of Mohammed Kudus to AFCON mean Bowen moves back to the right? Should they be a concern for owners or those intending to invest? Or is he likely to be a popular captaincy choice in GW21 at Sheffield United? Brighton just wish they had players who could play wide, with Kaoru Mitoma and Simon Adingra added to a lengthy injury list. Could 4.7 midfielder Facundo Buonanotte step up or is the multi talented Pascal Gross a better investment? Could Jooa Pedro now see increased minutes in a wider role? Both teams have attractive long-term fixtures and don't play again in the Europa League until March. Enablers such as Alphonse Areola and Jan Paul Van Hecke are also covered, but both have struggled for clean sheets; could that be about to change? Jimbo is joined by Tim Spiers, Daniel Storey and Liam Tharme after a captivating FA Cup 4th round weekend and ahead of the transfer window slamming shut. Non-league Wrexham entertain us all with a 3-3 draw against Sheffield United, but Brighton are the big winners on Sunday, getting the better of Liverpool again. We rave about Mitoma and why the Big Six keep flocking to the Seagulls for players. Elsewhere, Man City edge past Arsenal with their big man little man strike partnership, Spurs are eyeing silverware even with moaning Danjuma, and agricultural Walsall catch Tim’s eyes. Plus Gordon, Caicedo, Semenyo and that Ronaldo free-kick against Portsmouth. Produced by Charlie Jones. Jimbo, Daniel Storey, Jon Mackenzie and Jay Harris cast their eyes over an intriguing and potentially pivotal Premier League weekend. Arsenal overcome Man United in dramatic fashion with Nketiah proving a brilliant alternative to Jesus and the inverted Zinchenko proving hugely influential. Man City are back in the goals though with universal acclaim for Erling Haaland and Rico Lewis. Can they chase the Gunners down in the title race? Some drab 0-0s across the matchday, including at Anfield but Mykhailo Mudryk’s exciting cameo for Chelsea shows why they might not need a striker. Plus Mitoma, Gnonto and why Sean Dyche would keep Everton up. Produced by Charlie Jones. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1a: Arsenal 3-2 Man United (03.00) • PART 1b: Man City 3-0 Wolves (17.00) • PART 2a: West Ham 2-0 Everton (27.00) • PART 2b: Bournemouth 1-1 Forest & Southampton 0-1 Aston Villa (35.00) • PART 3a: Juve’s points deduction (38.00) • PART 3b: Liverpool 0-0 Chelsea (41.00) • PART 3c: The rest of the Premier League weekend (48.00) SIGN UP TO THE ATHLETIC TODAY FOR £1.99 A MONTH FOR 12 MONTHS • theathletic.com/totally Hosted on Acast. On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Leicester City fan Aaron Lagor and Brighton fan Sam Murray to discuss all the latest at their clubs ahead of their Gameweek 21 meeting at The King Power. Leicester have flip flopped between bad form, good form and now bad form again. It's four straight defeats since the World Cup for The Foxes and with difficult fixtures ahead the pressure is on Brendan Rodgers again. But are injuries the real cause for current concerns? For Brighton, they are flying under Roberto De Zerbi. There's huge praise for how they're doing, but how far can they go. Is European qualification now the goal this season? And their cheap FPL assets are now in high demand, there's the discussion on a number of prospects including Pervis Estupinan, Solly March, Karou Mitoma and Evan Ferguson.
