On the 20th and final Podcast of Correspondent Week James is joined by Liverpool fan Dan Lord to discuss The Reds FPL assets and what we can expect tactically and stylistically from new manager Arne Slot. The club have been quiet in the transfer window so far. Could a reason behind this be that all of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk and Mo Salah are entering the final year of their contracts. Can the club afford to take a risk of losing these players for free next summer if agreements on new deals aren't reached soon? Salah v Haaland is discussed in detail, there's discussion on the likely positioning of FPL's GOAT and also incomparision to other Liverpool attackers. Is Diogo Jota, for example, worth a 5.0 saving against Salah? Trent's now down to 7.0. He too is compared to Jota, but is he certain to start in GW1, and might the likes of Jarrel Quansah, Coonor Bradley or Kostantis Tsimikas offer a cheaper route into Liverpool's defence at the start of the season? And interest in Reds assets will be high with a great fixture listv to behin with, but in the longer-term can they challenge Arsenal and Manchester City for the title again? *Recorded last night prior to this morning's reported news that it now looks likely Dominic Solanke will be on his way to Tottenham... ...James is joined by Bournemouth fan Neil Grover and conversation immediately gets into the big transfer story featuring The Cherries, with talisman Dominic Solanke heavily linked with a move to Tottenham. Will he or won't he? And in which circumstances should FPL managers be investing in the forward? There's discussion on which Cherries attacking assets may step up in the scenario of their star forward leaving, one solution may be that a player listed as a midfielder could end up out of position. Plus, best defensive assets assessed, where the club can be expected to invest in the transfer market and the club's continuing ambition to improve. Southampton fan Matt Samuel joins James to discuss The Saints FPL assets and their chances of beating the drop under Russell Martin who will want to play an attractive style but is the team equipped enough to play the way he wants to? The squad will need strengthening, but within a budget, and a priority would be to get in a new goalkeeper and depth is required in the forward areas but the addition of Ben Brereton Diaz - who has been classified as a midfielder - offers genuine competition to Adam Armstrong for those seeking a Saints attacker. And FPL managers may want to invest in one, because despite the opening weekend's daunting trip to Newcastle an outstanding run of fixtures follows. Plus, there's a detailed debate about the relegation fight and 4.0 defenders, which includes the current highest owned, Southampton's Taylor Harwwod-Bellis. And the Saints may have the best 4.5 forward in the game too. Sam Murray joins James to discuss the summer changes at Brighton with Roberto De Zerbi replaced by Fabian Hürzeler, who at 31 becomes the Premier League's youngest ever permanent manager. The Podcast includes discussion on what we can expect tactically from the new man in charge. And there's plenty of FPL discussion which includes interest in new attacker Yankubah Minteh who may thrill from the right and is attainable at 5.5, the same price as the popular Joao Pedro, but will the forward prove his fitness ahead of Gameweek 1? And the brilliant Kaoru Mitoma (6.5) is back fit, but largely being ignored. Perhaps that's because of a difficult fixture schedule which sees The Seagulls play 7 of last season's top 8 in the opening 11 gameweeks, but week 4 & 5 are very attractive with home fixtures against Ipswich and Nottingham Forest, a period that looks perfect to field 4.0 defender Valentin Barco, who if he does well is likely to make interest in any of the rest of the defensive assets at 4.5 undesirable. But maybe only from the start. Jonny Pringle joins James to discuss all things Manchester City and their FPL assets as they bid for a fifth successive Premier League title. But there's a growing number of neutrals who think this might not be their season. Obviously Erling Haaland is covered, Jonny's initial reaction to the 15.0 price was to consider going without, but following the weekend pre-season hat-trick against GW1 opponents Chelsea how does he feel now? There's debate on Kevin De Bruyne versus Phil Foden at 9.5, the exciting emergence of 5.0 Oscar Bobb and his likely minutes, whether Josko Gvardiol is an auto pick at 6.0 and if there are preferences or desires across the players priced at 5.5 in defence and 6.5 midfield. Plus, will the departing Julian Alvarez be replaced, if Ederson is expected to stay and if City may remain surprisingly quiet during this transfer window despite some feeling a refresh is required. Manchester United fan Gary Robinson joins James to discuss United's #FPL assets and begin with reflection on the FA Cup Final victory over rivals City and club's decision to stick with Erik Ten Haag, though some backroom appointments, including legend Ruud Van Nistelrooy have led to to James remaining cautious on the current manager's future. Bruno Fernandes will appeal to many FPL managers at 8.5, but with Marcus Rashford back down to 7.0 and Alejandro Garnacho seemingly established and now 6.5 which, if any, of the trio is worth investing in? Pre-season has continued with last season's theme on injuries but key centre-back Lisandro Martinez is fit again and at 4.5 offers a cheap route in to a backline, that did admittedly give up an alarming number of shots last season. Andre Onana, Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw, all 5.0 are covered but with no new holding midfielder signed (yet) should they be swerved? Plus, Jadon Sancho is back, Mason Mount is playing, Amad Diallo is impressing and why Scott McTominay should not be discounted as possible FPL asset to consider. On the opener of Planet FPL Correspondent Week James is joined by Arsenal fan Adam Pritchard to discuss all things on The Gunners and their FPL assets ahead of a season where there is now more than just hope of them finishing above Manchester City and winning the title and it's not just Arsenal fans who think they can do it. But the start is tough, with trips to Villa, rivals Tottenham and Champions City all inside the first 5 so how much investment should FPL managers put into them? There's discussion on a preference between Gabriel and William Saliba, if Ben White is worth the extra, how Riccardo Calafiori and a returning Jurrien Timber may fit in and if David Raya actually offers a cheaper route into covering their defence that should be considered. Conversation on the attackers includes if Bukayo Saka is expected to start in GW1, if Martin Odegaard is worth the 1.5 saving, Kai Havertz's appeal and threats to his place as the central forward, Gabriel Martinelli's underwhelming 2023/24 and potential new incomings. On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Burnley fan Jack Toner and Nottingham Forest fan Mark Sutherns to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of Sunday's final day meeting at Turf Moor. For Burnley, relegation was confirmed following defeat at Tottenham and it's felt like an inevitability for some time but the club has kept faith with manager Vincent Kompany and their inexperienced squad should be in a good position to challenge to come straight back... or is there reason for concern? Forest are safe, bar an unlikely 12 goal swing on final day. But it has been a bad season and their safety is only due to the inability of the three teams below. What's gone wrong? And what are the club likely to do next? Could key players depart? And will Nuno Espirito Santo be kept on? Plus, goals are expected when the two clubs meet on Sunday, so should FPL managers look at enablers such as Jacob Braun Larsen or Callum Hudson-Odoi as a source for points in Gameweek 38? James is joined by West Ham fan Chris Stone and Luton fan Dan Ashby on Clash of the Correspondents to discuss the latest at their clubs and preview Saturday's meeting in East London. It's been a dramatic week for The Hammers, a 5-0 beating at Chelsea was followed by the news that David Moyes will leave the club at the end of this season with former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui widely being reported to be his replacement. There's discussion on Moyes' tenure and the potential new boss. The Hatters meanwhile are three points from safety with two to play and the decision that Nottingham Forest's points deduction will stand means there is still hope, but two wins will probably be needed. Can they get the win they need against a West Ham team that has only won 3 league games in 2024? Plus, likely summer departures, looking ahead to next season and are FPL managers right to overlook these two teams this weekend? Suj and James review the 6 games played in midweek as Arsenal and Manchester City went big in their pursuit of the title but Liverpool's attempt to keep pace hits the skids in the Merseyside Derby at Everton. Now focus turns from Free Hit 34 to Wildcard 35 with Suj (probably) and James both on Wildcard. On the Podcast there's a big lean in the discussion to covering FPL assets from the teams who played in midweek which features 5 of the 6 teams who have a Double in GW37 and whether assets from the likes of Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Everton and Liverpool should go alongside them for the run-in. James also gives a detailed view on Tottenham assets who have two upcoming doubles before revealing his intended Wildcard (subject to team news) and there's one player he's desperate to have but isn't likely to fit in. On Clash of the Correspondents it's a focus on the only two teams who double in Gameweek 35 as James is joined by Chelsea fan Gary Mantle and Tottenham fan Ricky Saunders to discuss the latest at their clubs and talk about the best FPL assets from each club with many Wildcarders this week look to load up with 3 from each ahead of their two double gameweeks in 35 and 37. But neither are in good form! A Chelsea without Cole Palmer were destroyed 5-0 at Arsenal on Tuesday night and it wasn't much better for Tottenham who lost 4-0 at Newcastle 12 days ago. There's discussion on Mauricio Pochettino's future and whether defeat to rivals Tottenham next week could see the process begin for a change in the dugout. While some frustrations are beginning to creep in to the mindset of Tottenham fans and there is trepidation ahead of Sunday's North London Derby. Plus, best FPL assets discussed. Cole Palmer will be a certainty for most and so to will Heung-Min Son despite form concerns. But who else should FPL managers be investing in? Or, should they just be avoiding altogether!? James is joined by Wolves fan Bradley Parker and Bournemouth fan Neil Grover on Clash of the Correspondents with the two sides set to face off at Molineux as part of Double Gameweek 34 and there will be plenty of interest in FPL assets from both clubs, particularly from those on a Free Hit. But do the two teams have anything to play for? The key talismen, Matheus Cunha and Dominic Solanke are discussed and there are pros and cons covered about the week ahead for both forwards. Attacking and enabling alternatives from both clubs may well go under the radar such as Pablo Sarabia and Justin Kluivert, though per haps they shouldn't. And what can be expected from a returning Hwang Hee-Chan? Many FPL managers will be awaiting key news on Wolves OOP defender Rayan Ait-Nouri, but will he even remain as part of an attacking front 3 if fit, and is he even the best OOP left footed defender for the week ahead from these two clubs? Clayton joins James for the Gameweek 33 review as there were big swings in the battle to finish first and fourth respectively after Liverpool and Arsenal both lost at home, with The Gunners beaten by Champions League chasing Aston Villa who are now favourites for fourth after Tottenham were dismantled at Newcastle. It was a difficult weekend for many FPL managers but those with Newcastle assets may have done particularly well and Erling Haaland returned well for captainers despite some fortune (or misfortune!) in his returns. All the games reviewed as usual with a focus very much on the forthcoming Double Gameweek that features Liverpool, Arsenal and a Crystal Palace team likely to get plenty of interest. Should managers also be looking at the 4 others team who double? And there's also a focus on the 6 teams who double in 37 and what Wildcarders may want to do in Gameweek 35. Forest now find themselves in the relegation zone following their 4 point deduction, there's chat on Forest's decision to appeal and what the club needs over their very important home games coming up to get themselves out of trouble. Palace aren't quite safe but probably only need a handful of points, but it is a daunting remaining fixture list. Discussion on the club includes chat on the switch of system to a 3-4-2-1 under new boss Oliver Glasner. Plus, FPL chat. Those who carried through the blank gameweek may well have punted a few Forest assets such as Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Elanga. Should FPL managers stick or twist? Forest assets may also appeal at the end for those Free Hitting in GW37, there's an explainer of why and alternatively Palace assets such as Ebe Eze and a soon-to-be-fit Michael Olise will definitely appeal to the group who will Free Hit in GW34. Dominic Solanke, fitness permitting, looks set to be captained by the majority of FPL managers, but should those who haven't used the Triple Captain chip go all in on The Cherries talisman? With Marcos Senesi now set to miss the double who is the best Bournemouth defensive option? Marcus Tavernier? Justin Kluivert or an alternative midfielder? Do alternative options at Luton such as Alfie Doughty and Ross Barkley offer more reliability than the Bournemouth options? Can any of the Luton enablers be trusted? And can selling Erling Haaland for Carlton Morris really be considered for those not Free Hitting in GW29? Plus, discussion on The Hatters hopes for survival, why Bourbnemouth may have not looked at their brest despite ending their winless run at Burnley and the Podcast begins with discussion on Tom Lockyer whose cardiac arrest when the sides originally met is why the sides will now meet again next Wednesday. Suj and James review all the weekend Gameweek 27 football with an eye on the Bournemouth-Luton upcoming Double and what's beyond in GWs 29 and 30. How big should FPL managers commit to the two doublers? Is Dominic Solanke the definite go-to captain for the Gameweek? And with James on the hunt for a defender there's a theme of looking at defensive assets throughout this Podcast. As usual all the games reviewed, including Alphonse Areola hauling at Everton, Heung-Min Son rewarding buyers with a goal late on against Crystal Palace, Villa leaving it late at Luton and the Sunday wins for Bournemouth and a Phil Foden inspired Manchester City. A Foden who James might even bench in GW28! There's lots to discuss and that includes why Brighton might be about to move the landscape for FPL managers again. James returns from his hiatus to join Suj for the Review of the Blank Gameweek 26 weekend that featured a major gamble on Wolves offensive players and particularly Hwang Hee-Chan, who blanked while differential and alternative Aston Villa players in Douglas Luiz and Leon Bailey went off. All the games discussed including Pep's wild set up in victory at Bournemouth, Arsenal's dismantling of a woeful Newcastle and Manchester United's good run coming to an abrupt halt by an outstanding and Fulham-less Joao Palhinha. Plus, there's notes on the team who blanked this weekend, the 3 type of FPL managers in relation to Dominic Solanke ownership, captaincy for the weekend ahead and the importance of the midweek FA Cup games and why the surprises could lead to big changes in Chip Strategy. With James yellow flagged, Suj takes the lead and is joined by Clayton to discuss the remaining fixtures from GW25 in the Premier League and look ahead to blank GW26 and beyond. 1.3 million FPL managers Triple Captained Erling Haaland who returned against Brentford after a blank against Chelsea, and there's an argument that he could have had even more. With the FA Cup on the horizon, this is a pivotal moment that will be a domino effect on people's chip strategies, and the two spent some time discussing this. On Clash of the Correspondents is James is joined by Manchester United fan Gary Robinson and Fulham fan Dara Curran to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of Saturday's Blank Gameweek 26 meeting between the clubs at Old Trafford. It's 4 wins on the spin for United in the Premier League including 3 hard fought away victories and they are back in contention for Champions League qualification. But are they actually convincing anyone that they've truly turned the corner? Are Fulham truly safe from overlooking their shoulder? They should be, but their away form is terrible and have tough home fixtures to come and will have to cope for the next 2 games without the instrumental Joao Palhinha who is suspended. Plus, there's discussion on the best FPL assets from above. Rasmus Hojlund is in great goalscoring form while enabling Fulham forward Rodrigo Muniz is also on a streak. But can FPL managers find a way to fit either forward in? There's also discussion on the keepers who are among the highest scoring in FPL this season, best defensive assets from above and if any of the differential midfield options can be considered including an ever improving Alejandro Garnacho. And somehow, this Podcast survives two power cuts to reach a conclusion. On James' live stream there's a heavy focus on the upcoming double, but which Brentford, Liverpool, Luton or Manchester City assets are worth getting? On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by West Ham fan Chris Stone and Brighton fan Sam Murray to discuss all the latest at their clubs ahead of their GW20 meeting in East London and both clubs are still to play tonight in GW19. Jarrod Bowen is currently FPL's 5th highest scoring player but will the departure of Mohammed Kudus to AFCON mean Bowen moves back to the right? Should they be a concern for owners or those intending to invest? Or is he likely to be a popular captaincy choice in GW21 at Sheffield United? Brighton just wish they had players who could play wide, with Kaoru Mitoma and Simon Adingra added to a lengthy injury list. Could 4.7 midfielder Facundo Buonanotte step up or is the multi talented Pascal Gross a better investment? Could Jooa Pedro now see increased minutes in a wider role? Both teams have attractive long-term fixtures and don't play again in the Europa League until March. Enablers such as Alphonse Areola and Jan Paul Van Hecke are also covered, but both have struggled for clean sheets; could that be about to change? Plus, there's tactical insight to the games watched, including discussion on Arsenal's 3-1-6, Villa's high line that got shredded at Newcastle, Chelsea's unexpected setup. And what about that Bench Boost? Was it successful for James...? And do Salah owners dare captain the Egyptian King over Erling Haaland in GW2? It’s been a challenging month for The Cottagers, key players picking up injuries and both their star player and manager have been the subject of interest from Saudi Arabia. Manager Marco Silva has decided to stay but talisman Aleksander Mitrovic appears to still want out. Can he be reintegrated and convinced to stay? If Mitrovic does leave how much interest should FPL managers have in Carlos Vinicus or new signing Raul Jimenez? Which of the 5.5 midfielders stands out as the best choice? Is Bernd Leno the best 4.5 goalkeeper choice? Plus, concerns over squad depth, whether investment in the team is likely and if we can be sure Fulham will avoid a case of ‘second season syndrome’ Follow Dara on Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheTinkerMen Next on Correspondent Week: ep. 12 – Tottenham Hotspur with Ricky Saunders, Thursday 2pm BST Today on Patreon: The Correspondent Week Debrief with Suj: on Manchester United, West Ham, Fulham and Tottenham For the full Planet FPL Schedule this week view this post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/86901192 Want to become a member of our FPL and SkyFF community and support the Podcast? Tom Medd joins James to talk all things Brentford and with an attractive set of opening fixtures there’s plenty to be excited about and attacking assets particularly appeal, but who can step up and reward FPL managers in the Absence of the suspended Ivan Toney? Intriguingly, the players of interest offensively are all at different price points, with Bryan Mbuemo at 6.5, Yoane Wissa at 6.0, Kevin Schade at 5.5 and as discovered on the Podcast Keane Lewis-Potter shouldn’t be discounted at 5.0 either. But interest remains in investing in another forward; so how much should that play on the minds of FPL managers? Will new signing Mark Flekken start in goal, with with David Raya likely to depart? But importantly, is he actually any good? Pre-season performances have caused concern, so would it be better to invest in a defender? And the Podcast begins with discussion on Toney’s suspension. Jonny Pringle joins James to discuss what we can expect from Manchester City and their FPL assets in the opening weeks of the season and the Podcast begins by reflecting on City’s treble triumph and by asking if City can maintain the motivation to seek more glory. Are we in a perma-cap phase for Erling Haaland at the season’s beginning? Is there any case to make for FPL managers to go against him? Hopes are high for Phil Foden but where will he play and for FPL does it matter? Does Jack Grealish offer a more reliable alternative? Is Kevin De Bruyne too expensive for consideration? Plus, who’s the standout defensive choice? What’s the impact on the team with the departures of Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez? And is City’s squad looking a little thin? Suj & James have their first discussion on player pricing in FPL following last Wednesday's game launch and debate the pricing on players throughout the game. Erling Haaland's early ownership is monstrous despite the 14.0 price, should he have come in at a higher price? What about the cluster of midfielders between 7.5 and 9.0, are they too cheap and easy to access? There's chat on best enablers across the positions, the players who appeal most from the best teams and why keeping in an open mind is still so important at this stage when putting together drafts. On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Manchester United correspondent Gary Robinson and Chelsea fan Gary Mantle to discuss the latest at their clubs in cluding the upcoming Double Gameweek that features a meeting between the two at Old Trafford next Thursday. Should United be concerned about falling outside of the top 4? 2 wins are needed and should they both arrive in the double, should FPL managers then be concerned about rotation in GW38 ahead of the FA Cup Final against treble chasing neighbours City? Just how bad has this season been for Chelsea? There's reflection on Graham Potter's reign, the interim spell with Frank Lampard and thoughts turn to the imminent apppointment of Mauricio Pochettino. Plus, Marcus Rashford's fitness, best United FPL assets discussed including if Bruno Fernandes should be forced in, if multiple defensive assets should be considered and differential Antony. Will Kepa come back in goal for Chelsea; are there any other assets that can be considered?
